Chapter 314: Global Invasion
"That, boss."
Heavenly Sword Headquarters, Commander-in-Chief Office, Wanda hesitated for a moment and spoke.
"I seem to be a mutant."
"Oh."
Wanda was stunned.
"Boss, aren't you surprised at all?" She wondered, "Shouldn't you at least ask if there's any evidence or something?" β
Michael's fingers gently moved away from the transparent screen hanging in front of his desk, and he glanced at the surprised little witch.
"I already knew." He said calmly, "It's not just you, you and Pietro are mutants. I looked at your genetic test results early in the early days of your joining Skysword, and found that you all carry the very active X gene in your body. β
Wanda's mouth opened wide.
"So you've always known that, so you'...... Then you...... Why don't you tell us??? β
Michael squinted at her and said nonchalantly, "You never asked." β
"That's right...... Wait, that's not the problem, right? You knew we were mutants, but you never ...... At least you should mention it when you recruit us into the team, right? β
"Is there any need?" Michael's tone was still calm, "Whether it's a mutant or an ability enhancer, is there a difference between this kind of thing?" You have potential, I took a fancy to your talent and recruited you, it's as simple as that. β
He paused, and looked up into the little witch's eyes.
"Don't think too much. It doesn't matter what the source of your abilities is, but you're you, you're the Scarlet Witch, one of my most trusted people, and that won't change in any way. β
Wanda was stunned, her lips opened slightly, but finally closed again without saying a word, and her expression became a little subtle.
Michael dragged the hovering screen back in front of him, just in front of him.
"Well, if that's all there is to it, you can go back." He said impatiently, as if it sounded deliberately impatient, "As you can see, I have a lot of work to do. β
"Hmm." The little witch nodded slightly. She obediently retreated to the door, paused before leaving the door, said "thank you" in a voice so soft that she could almost hear herβfor the almost unconditional trust that this man had given her, and then disappeared from the door.
The door to the office was re-locked. Instead of burying his head in his work, Michael tossed aside the floating screen in front of him and leaned back in his chair as if it were just a prop for decoration.
Shirley appeared on the chair across the table, the figure of the virtual girl lying on her stomach in the chair, her hands resting on the back of the chair, and the back of her hands resting on her delicate little chin.
"Hey, the boss is really, now you obviously don't have anything to do, but you deliberately say that you are very busy." She chuckled and said, "I'm the one who's really busy." β
Michael's face didn't change, and he crossed his fingers: "I just need personal space to think." β
"Yes, yes, you are the boss, you have the final say." Shirley quipped. It's almost starting to become her mantra.
She shook her head, and her long, virtual hair hung down from the side of her seat, almost touching the floor.
"But, boss, it's not like I want to say anything about your approach. I was just...... Curious. She paused, with a puzzled expression, "You designed me to observe and learn from humans. And from what I've seen of everyone so far, I realize...... Humans, at least the vast majority of humans, are social animals. I've found that no one can be separated from the group and stand alone, and even the most withdrawn people always have to connect with someone else.
Even if it is very occasional for someone to live in their past, to become withdrawn from a past that they cannot help with, they often have an indelible connection with their deceased loved ones, friends or lovers. At the end of the day, it's the connection with other people that makes them extreme. β
She paused, putting away her joking.
"But I found ...... I noticed that boss, you never seem to have really a strong connection with anyone else. "From what I've observed, it's better to say that the boss only communicates with other people to a minimum, but it seems that he is deliberately avoiding further connections with others." As far as I can see, Miss Maximov should be the closest to a certain border, but you seem to be avoiding any unnecessary communication with her unless necessary......"
"Because that's not necessary." Michael said in a nonchalant tone, "Because there are many other things to do than these unnecessary things." β
"That's right." Shirley was thoughtful and seemed to understand a little.
The display screen that had been thrown aside by Michael suddenly popped up again, and the map automatically popped up on the screen, with a big exclamation mark hanging on it.
It's not just this screen, all the projection equipment in the office turns on on itself at the same time, as if out of control. All devices simultaneously cast transparent floating screens, each with a different map popping up with a red exclamation sign representing a hazard alert. The sound of "beep" sirens echoed in the office.
Michael frowned: "Shirley, what's the situation?" β
"Attack alert." Shirley's expression became serious, and she changed to a proper sitting position, "Something suddenly broke into the atmosphere and attacked...... Huge! β
"What's it, where's the location?"
"The enemy is unknown, but a huge warship and a large number of combat machines have landed in the city! Place...... The location is the whole planet! β
***
New york city.
An overwhelming array of enemies, never-before-seen sci-fi ships, bizarre giant machines, and countless humanoid fighting machines that leap out of their ships and machines onto the streets...... An entire army seemed to come out of thin air without warning, and suddenly swept through the city.
They cover a huge area, and from what witnesses on the street have seen, they have come out of nowhere. They appeared in a dazzling white light, and their fire was so fierce that nothing could stop them. By the time the people came to their senses, the whole city was in flames.
Naturally, the Avengers were the first to strike. Their goal is to help people, confronting the ubiquitous robots on the streets, and quickly guiding people to evacuate. But even these ordinary machines, which look most like soldiers, are not as easy to deal with as they look, their steel shells are surprisingly hard, and their most conventional weapons are exaggeratedly powerful. The first robot squad the Avengers encounter on the street puts them in a bitter battle.
But like every daily encounter with the Avengers, their situation seems to only go from bad to bad forever.
They were still fighting the group of robot warriors in the streets, and their heavy steps slowly approached from a few blocks away.
It was like a drumstick hitting a drumstick, except that the drum was the street itself on which they were standing. With each sound, the debris on the ground would splash once, shaking everyone's hearts.
Nearly twenty meters high, the silhouette emerges from the corner of the street. A heavy machine with a golden shell, with two intimidating heavy cannons on its shoulders, and the sound of metal scraping all over its body when it moves.
Spider-Man, who was squatting on the head of a robot and wrapping his webs around the head of the machine, involuntarily stopped his movements, looked at the big guy who was slowly approaching, and asked in a low voice, "That...... Mr. Stark? You must have a suit of that size too, right? β
Tony's face twitched under his mask.
"After today, I'll definitely do this."
