Chapter 1: The Supernatural Forces of June
It hasn't been sunny for ten days.
Ever since the beginning of the city, the whole city has been shrouded in this seemingly endless haze.
Although I was tired of the endless sound of rain outside the window, I loved it from the bottom of my heart. Because in this kind of weather, the people around me look gloomy - I love the atmosphere.
When I don't have to go to school, I'll be lying on my bed watching anime like I am now, which is probably the only hobby I have in common with those normal people.
I don't like going to school, but I like to play pranks at school. Watching those high-spirited guys fall from the sidelines gives me a sense of accomplishment.
However, I'm not like those normal people, who have to use tools like rope, eraser, and ink to make a prank. I have relied on the forces of nature, or the supernatural.
It's probably hard to believe it, at least not the few parents in the world who can believe me. But I can really use this supernatural power.
Or rather, I have this supernatural power.
It was probably from March when the new leaves first grew that I stumbled upon the ability to do this.
I was upstairs watering my mother's little tree, and I saw a broken leaf on the little tree, and I thought about picking it off, but when I reached out, the leaf fell off on its own.
I tried to pick it up again, and as soon as I reached out, the leaf actually floated up on its own—there was no wind on the balcony at that time, and I was pretty sure that there was no wind at all.
I withdrew my hand in fright, and the leaf flew towards my body like a dart at me.
I collapsed to the ground and closed my eyes in horror.
When I opened my eyes again, I saw that the leaf was about fifty centimeters away from my palm facing the sky.
I immediately realized that I seemed to be in control of the leaf, controlling its fall and movement.
Over the next few days, I verified my absurd knowledge on different plants in the neighborhood. By the way, I also discovered that I control the movement of the leaves with my right hand, and whether I want the leaves to fall or move depends on the movement of my left hand.
When I make a fist with my left hand, I can let the fallen leaves move freely. This is where I can extend my right index finger and let the leaf fly out where I want it to go. And the tighter the left hand holds, the faster the leaf moves.
One day on the balcony I tried to hit an apple with a camphor leaf. I still remember that my left hand was only about the same as it could squeeze a plastic bottle, and the apple was punctured and knocked away.
I was acutely aware of the power I possessed, and how much damage I could do to anything in this world using this supernatural power.
But even if I'm not a normal person, I have a minimum moral bottom line - I won't use this supernatural power to do such unconscionable things as murder and arson.
But then again, it's just a force of nature: the animal of nature who wields it, me; And the objects of this power manipulation are leaves, grasses, rattans, and other plants in nature.
Although I will not hurt others, I will use this ability to rectify others.
In the months that followed, I spent almost every day in the garden on campus during my lunch break. Sometimes the grass by the stone bench is controlled to scratch the white feet of the girl who is resting on the stone bench; Sometimes the vines on the side of the road tripped over the boys as they passed by in groups - but for safety and moral reasons, I didn't want to trip over them.
Soon, there was a rumor in the school that there was a "demon of grass and trees" in the garden. Some of the victims even fabricated sensational stories of being killed.
I secretly rejoice every time I hear this, and I do it every day.
However, the only thing that can stop me is the rainy day like today. The grass and trees were wet on a rainy day, and I didn't want to hide myself in this environment.
Although my supernatural power is very powerful, I can only let the leaves that grow on the tree fall and move, but I can't let the fallen leaves return to the tree, which is the fly in the ointment of my supernatural power.
"Yujie, it's time for lunch!"
Mom was calling me in the kitchen.
After another morning, I thought to myself, a sense of unknown loss.
Mom and Dad are the people I love the most in the world, because they are the only ones in this world who can understand me as much as possible. I really hate those classmates, because what I can't understand is that they are proud of all day long?! As a result, I always made myself look out of place with them, and I was naturally ignored by my classmates – whether it was because they didn't want to ignore me or because they were afraid to ignore me. But that's exactly what I wanted.
"Yujie, the weather forecast just now said that it may be sunny from this afternoon. It's been raining for the past few days, so stay at home, so you can go out in the afternoon. ”
Mom kept putting vegetables in my bowl and said to me.
"Well, but the ground should still be wet in the afternoon, right, why don't I go out for a walk in the evening?"
My mother smiled with relief and looked at me with a smile, but she didn't start to move her chopsticks for herself, just said while picking up vegetables for me.
However, I also happened to make a trip to school to pick up my homework book. Even though I didn't like school, I always completed my homework on time so as not to attract extra attention from my teacher.
Considering that I might meet classmates who also went back to school to pick up things in the afternoon, I wouldn't venture into the school in the afternoon, even if the ground was dry.
Sure enough, in the afternoon, the rain that had lasted for ten days finally stopped, and the sun poured into my bedroom through the translucent gauze curtains that I had not opened for many years.
Because I had to work at night to catch up on my homework at night, I took a long nap in the afternoon while the sun was drying my buttocks.
Actually, I don't need to work at night today, I can use it to do homework tomorrow and Sunday, but I want to solve such errands quickly and immerse myself in my own world happily tomorrow.
I slept like this until nightfall. The days are long in the summer, and I guess there will be almost no classmates at the school by the time night falls completely.
So my family and I hurried into dinner and rode our bikes to school.
I have to say that the school at night is really quiet and terrifying. Because it was a day when there were no students in class, the street lights on the campus were not turned on. My feet were on the leaves that had fallen from the wind and rain the other day, and I made a "click-rub-" sound, which gave me goosebumps.
To make the atmosphere less eerie, I clenched my left hand into a fist and used my right hand to clear all the leaves from the path. Looking back, did I do a good thing for my aunt who cleaned the campus the day after tomorrow?
After walking around the school building along the unlit path, I was able to make sure that there was nothing left in the school area, and I began to plan to go upstairs.
I just got the key to the teaching area from the security guard at the school gate. I walked around the teaching area again to make sure that the doors of each building were still locked—I was relieved that I wouldn't meet a normal person.
So, I strode upstairs and got the workbook I needed.
As soon as I walked out of the classroom and locked the door, the Oshima cherry tree in the flower bed downstairs suddenly made a loud noise, "whoa, whoa," and it seemed to be shaking violently.
I reflexively crouched down and let the one-metre-high windowsill hide my untall body. It wouldn't be nice if it was a classmate, I thought to myself.
I just crouched and pricked up my ears to listen to the creatures in the flower beds.
After a while, there didn't seem to be any footsteps on the ground, and my pounding heart settled down again.
"Maybe it's just a bulky bird hitting a tree." Because I had repeatedly confirmed that there was no one else in the teaching area, I forgot to lower my voice when I said this.
I went downstairs and restored the building to its original state.
Logically speaking, I should have gone home quickly to do my homework, but I thought to myself that I would be alone in school, so I thought I would go to the garden.
The doors of the garden were not closed, did the security guards never close them, or did the wind blow them open a few days ago? But that's just right - I usually walk around the path to avoid the sight of my classmates, and it's rare for me to walk through the gate once.
Maybe I should take the opportunity to ask and think about what strange "plants" I should use to play pranks the day after tomorrow. Using "plants" to play pranks sounds ridiculous, but I'm serious.
Coming in through the main entrance, there were many slender rattans that had never been broken or trampled on - was this a new arsenal for me?
I secretly rejoiced in my heart, so I planned to "rip" the whole strip and lay it first, so that my classmates could trip over it when they passed by the day after tomorrow.
I used my left and right hand skillfully, but because there were no street lights, and it was still raining in the morning, the dense clouds and the moonlight was very light, and I didn't know what I was pulling down.
"Stop!" It's a girl's voice.
Who is it? I've made sure there's no one.
"Do you come here at night to be a flower thief?" She jumped out of the grass, "Still using superpowers?" ”
Why would a girl hide in the grass like me? I was so frightened that I didn't say anything.
It was dark, but I could clearly see her slowly walking towards me.
"You...... Who are you? I snapped out a sentence in a panic.
She didn't answer, just walked over to the flower that I had "beheaded" by mistake. Then, to my surprise, she made a gesture that felt very familiar to me—her left hand clenching her fist and her right hand extending her index finger. The flower returned to its original position with her delicate little hand.
"That's it!"
She spoke in an unusually brisk tone, as if a happy little girl were singing to me.
"You ......" I covered my mouth, surprised.
Gradually, she noticed me from her joy.
"Well, but it seems like I'm not the only one with supernatural abilities!" She muttered and walked towards me.
"Supernatural...... Ability? ”
I stammered from the moment I saw her and started talking, I don't know if I was startled by her presence or by her movements.
"Well, in this way, you also removed the leaves on the road just now, right?"
She slowly approached me, step by step. Gradually, I could see her face in the faint moonlight.
She is the most popular cute girl in our class - Chen Yirui, which is true.
Why is she here alone at night?
"Oh, it's classmate Zhao Yujie!" She also seemed to recognize me, "A weirdo who usually never intersects with normal people?" ”
"Weirdo ......" I repeated the strange word.
"But do you have the same superpowers as me?" She didn't listen to my reaction, and kept asking questions to express what she had to say.
"Yirui-san!"
"Huh?" She reacted instantly.
It seemed like the first time I had called her by her name, and she realized it and was stunned.
"Can your supernatural powers restore fallen plants?" I asked seriously.
"To be precise, it should be grafting."
She was no longer as naughty as she had just been, and began to answer my questions seriously.
"But I can't make plants fall off or move freely like you do!" She continued.
"Shedding, grafting, the exact opposite ability!"
"Yes!" She clapped her palms, as if they resonated with her.
Gradually, her lovely face became clearer and more beautiful in my eyes.
"The 'Demon of Grass and Trees' in their mouths, is that you?"
"Maybe......"
She then looked very satisfied.
"By the way, why did Yirui come to school so late?"
I diverted this topic to my detriment.
"Hmm...... I'll get my homework book. However, the security guard at the door said that the key had been borrowed, so I went here first. ”
Looks like I got there a little bit before her.
"Looks like you're the one who borrowed the key, right?"
I handed her the key to the classroom, "I'm sorry to keep you waiting so long." ”
"Why don't you go up with me again."
She turned around and walked to the teaching area, seemingly unrepentant.
"Hey, classmate Zhao Yujie, you will also come to get the homework book?" She walked straight forward, "I thought you wouldn't even be able to do your homework." ”
"Oh no! Since they all came to class, I simply finished my homework. ”
The moon was indeed obscured by dense clouds, and the teaching area was dark. But I noticed that she wore her school uniform even when she went back to school on Saturday to get something—a short-sleeved shirt, a pleated skirt, and black stockings.
"By the way...... she slowed down suddenly, waiting for me to walk to her left, "when did it start?" ”
"When did it start?"
"Your supernatural abilities."
As a result, the conversation returned to this issue that I didn't want to talk to anyone else.
"It's probably March."
"March?" She stroked her hair, "It's about the same as me." ”
Walking into the classroom I had just left, she went to the front door and turned on the light. I'm used to living in my own dark room, and I forgot to turn on the light when I went into the classroom to pick up something.
"I'm quite careful, I actually turned the stool up again."
She noticed the upside-down stool on the table in my place, and when I had just finished picking up my things, I thought that when I came back on Monday, the morning duty student should still have to clean up, so I put it on.
She wasn't tall either, and she sat in the front position. I was also not tall, but because I lacked interaction in class, I was placed in the most corner by the teacher.
"By the way, you sit at the back, won't you be blocked by the tall classmate in front?"
She continued rummaging through the drawers. I wondered why she noticed so much about me.
"It's okay, just get used to it. Besides, I don't listen to lectures much in the first place. Sitting in the back can disturb others less, in short, it is exactly what I want. ”
"Why don't you talk to the teacher?"
"It's useless to say it, it's because I didn't cherish my previous seat that the teacher fell to the end."
Her attitude seems to be a little different from that of other classmates or teachers.
"Your classmates seem to be alienated from you and say that you are not good behind your back." She found the book she wanted to get back and stood up.
"Because I'm a weirdo." I spread my hands and expressed my helplessness.
"But you're not a bad person, you can tell."
Yirui-san, how do you see that I'm not a bad person?
"Alright, let's go!" She patted her skirt and motioned for me to go out with her.
"Why, Irei-san doesn't think I'm bad?" I walked behind her and asked.
"Actually, you can't say that you're not bad," she said, "after all, you still play pranks and bully others." ”
"Sure enough......"
"Still, it feels like you know to think about others."
I don't know why Eri-san's impression of me is so wrong. However, I always felt that it would make me uncomfortable to say this, so I changed the topic again.
"By the way, Yirui-san, do you also like to play in the garden?"
She stopped again and crouched down.
"What's wrong?" Seeing this, I stepped forward.
It turned out that the potted plant at the door of the class was blown down, and the flowers in the pot were broken.
"Looks like there's no way to bring it back to life......
Her voice became very soft and soft, and her tone was full of regret.
"Don't even your supernatural abilities come in handy?" I also squatted down.
"It should be too late...... I'll try though. ”
She reconnected the disconnected parts as she had done before.
"However, I don't think I can come back to life. Tomorrow, let's take a look again. ”
So, she didn't answer my question, and on the way out of the school building, she became much quieter.
"What a waste of your time, thank you for being with me."
When she walked out of the school gate, she smiled and thanked me.
"How do you get home?"
"My house is nearby, just walk, what about you?"
"I ride a bike." As he spoke, he pointed to the bicycle parked by the tree.
A warm breeze blew through her long hair, shirt and skirt. She is really beautiful, as her classmates say.
"See you the day after tomorrow!" She waved goodbye to me.
"Well, be careful on the road!"
On the way, I suddenly remembered that it was the first time I had communicated with Yirui-san for such a long time. I probably hadn't communicated much with my classmates before, and I remembered that I had been with one of the most popular beautiful girls for so long, and I felt a little beautiful in my heart.
It's an amazing feeling! There is a girl in this world who is completely different from me, and she also has supernatural powers, and it can be said that she is a supernatural force that complements me.
When I got home, it was already nine o'clock in the evening. Mom and Dad sat on the couch watching TV and smiled at me as I walked into the house with a smile on my face.
Instead of working at night as planned, I fell asleep early.
