Chapter 44: The Evolution of Human Civilization (3) "Individual Subconscious" and "Collective Subconscious"
Since the invention of language and writing, human evolution has taken a great leap forward, which is the key to the development of the "individual subconscious" into the "collective subconscious". But before discussing the "collective subconscious", let's talk about the origin of human language and writing, and the invention of language and writing began with the guidance of "instinct", that is, the "great subconscious" from "stars". To put it simply, in primitive societies, it is difficult for human beings to survive alone, because we do not have sharp teeth and claws, and we do not run fast, so in order to survive, we can only unite with other human beings, act together, find food together, and support each other. This is what makes us all together. There are also many creatures that evolve in groups, especially ants, they all act in groups, and the division of labor is very careful, but why have they not developed a civilization like humans? Because they follow their instincts, but they don't develop the "self", that is, the "personal subconscious", so they can't develop "language", of course I'm not an ant, and I'm not sure if they really don't have a "self" in their real life feelings. But we can deduce from the results that human beings can become "spirits of all things" because of the leap that we can bring about by the development of the "individual subconscious" into the "collective subconscious".
Human beings can accumulate "knowledge" because they have language and writing, and the "knowledge" that is transformed into language and writing expands the boundaries of human "consciousness". Let's explain it in detail. When a group of people come together to survive, to cooperate, they must communicate. But how to communicate, human beings can pronounce some syllables, human beings are also familiar with "association", a certain group of people use a certain syllable to represent something, such as pronouncing YA to represent "day" (sun), when the descendants of this group of people learned from their predecessors that YA means "day", which is the beginning of human communication, and this communication can be learned, and the descendants of this group of people will think of "day" when they hear YA.
The principle of writing is the same as that of language, except that "symbols" are used instead of "syllables", and these symbols do not disappear with the wind, but can be preserved. To use the idiom "the blind man touches the elephant" to illustrate simply, when the same blind person describes an elephant, because they have different subjective feelings (consciousness), they have different "consciousness" of an elephant, which comes from their different personal experiences. One says that the elephant is a straw rope, not only because he has only touched the elephant's tail, but also because he has touched the straw rope in his past life experience; The other says that the elephant is a wooden pillar, not only because he has only touched the elephant's feet, but also because he has touched the wooden pillar in his past life experience. One said that the elephant was a water pipe, not only because he had only touched the elephant's proboscis but also because he had touched the water pipe in his past life experience. And this group of blind men have the representative syllables of straw ropes, wooden posts, and water pipes in their own language, and if they walk together and communicate in words, the comprehensive image of the elephant should be an animal with straw ropes, wooden posts, and water pipes. Everyone knows this story, but what does this have to do with the so-called "personal subconscious"? What if the elephant was not a real thing that could be touched, but a law that operated between heaven and earth?
In fact, each of us is blind and is limited by our own physical bodies, for example, human beings cannot see infrared rays, it is not that infrared rays do not exist, but our body structure does not have the function of detecting this light, and our physical body is made of DNA replication. But why do we know something other than what we feel? The answer is "science", but what is the essence of "science"? The answer is that each person's "individual subconscious" communicates with each other with the help of words and words, and then converges into the "collective subconscious", and when this "collective subconscious" is transformed into the "consciousness" of human beings, the evolution of human beings has made an unprecedented leap.
Returning to the example of "the blind man touching the elephant" earlier, I will first explain how the "individual subconscious" can be merged into the "collective subconscious". Each of us is blind, and we are in this time and space of the law of material and energy transformation, that is, the law of the universe (the power of the Tao) is the blind man touch the "image", everyone from birth to death, in fact, is affected by this cosmic law, the objective material environment determines how long we can survive in this time and space, how to live, and everyone has been touching this "image" all their lives, but due to the different time, place and space where each person is, their feelings about the "elephant" are different, but since the beginning of human beings, Countless human beings have touched this "elephant" and have come up with different "feelings", but because each person touches the "elephant" in different parts, they can only know part of the "truth" of the "elephant", that is, part of the "truth" of the laws of the universe. If there is no language, everyone is an independent individual, and there is no way to communicate with each other to exchange each other's experience of touching each other's "images", so even if all human beings who have ever lived have a part of the "truth", they are only one piece of a puzzle in each person's hand. For human beings to put together the puzzle of "elephants", everyone must take out one of the pieces of the puzzle they hold in their hands and "put them together" so that human beings can roughly grasp the laws of the universe that "elephants" are the universe.
How do you put the puzzle together? The "individual subconscious" mentioned above means that each person uses language and writing to share with countless other "individual subconscious" the results of touching the "image" based on his own experience, that is, the experience of touching the "image". To put it simply, human beings communicate with each other about the experience of "images" through the method of "association". Individual A says that the elephant is a straw rope, not only because he only touched the elephant's tail, but also because he has touched the straw rope in his past life experience; Person B says that elephants are wooden pillars, not only because he has only touched the elephant's feet, but also because he has touched wooden pillars in his past life experience. Person C says that elephants are water pipes, not only because he has only touched the elephant's proboscis, but also because he has touched water pipes in his past life experience. Individual A said to individual B that the "elephant" is a "straw rope", and the "straw rope" appears in the experience of individual B, because individual B and individual A are living in a similar objective environment, such as in primitive societies, they may be from the same tribe, and they both have the same experience of capturing animals with "long objects", so they have named the "long objects" "grass ropes" (which can be represented by the same syllable), and individual A wants individual B to understand the "elephant" in his heart (that is, the truth or the laws of the universe), and will use "grass rope" This syllable and the concept it represents (i.e. "long object") allow individual B to understand what an "elephant" is. The same individual B and individual C will communicate with each other in the same way about the "elephant" in their hearts. If individual A, individual B and individual C are from the same tribe and use the same set of languages, then through sharing and communication, they have a common understanding of "elephant", and with the reproduction of the population of this tribe, generation after generation people have written down their experience of "touching elephants", and with different concepts of "association", they have perfected the invisible and intangible thing of "elephant" (the law of the universe), and gathered all the tribes of this "invisible and intangible thing (the law of the universe)" for generations"Association" will form the unique "knowledge system" of their tribe, and form their unique culture and beliefs, which constitute the "collective subconscious" of the tribe.
Taking "elephants" as an example, if generations of tribal members live in different places and the place has its own unique geographical environment, it will cause their "collective subconscious" to be unique to "elephants". For example, there are no "cylinder" objects in the place where they live, and the tribe has rarely encountered "cylinder" objects for generations, and their experience of touching "elephants" may be due to the difference in geographical and objective environments, so that most of them have touched "elephants" as "long objects". There are also a few members of their tribe who have touched the "elephant" as a "cylinder" by chance, but because it is difficult for them to touch the "cylinder" in the geographical environment, even if they have a new experience of "elephant", they cannot associate "elephant" with "cylinder" because they do not have the concept of "cylinder". On the one hand, the tribe's knowledge of "elephants" will be fixed as "long objects", which is their culture, and this culture will become their "collective subconscious", that is, they have the same view of the laws of the universe, and this insight is passed down from generation to generation in the form of "association". But the question is, do they really grasp the "laws of the universe"?
Why do human beings need to grasp the "laws of the universe"? Because the grasp of the "laws of the universe" is "science". How "science" has changed the evolution of humanity is something that everyone can deeply understand, so I will not go into details. But one thing to be clear is that without language, this "scientific" knowledge cannot be passed on, and "knowledge" is actually a collection of human "consciousness". What is "consciousness"? The objective environment (e.g., the geographical environment or a specific situation) plus the subjective perception of the human individual (i.e., the data of the objective environment collected by the sensory organs), and then the human individual's judgment (i.e., the way of thinking, and the methods of editing thinking "association" and "logic") and react, this is "consciousness". For example, if a child sees a stone and this is the first time in his life that he sees the object, then he will have the opportunity to walk around and see more stones, but don't forget that there is no stone in the world that is exactly the same. If every time he sees a new stone, he thinks it's a new thing, it's because he doesn't have the "concept" of "stone" in his mind at all. If all the people of a tribe see Stone A for the first time, Stone B tomorrow, and Stone C the day after tomorrow, if they don't see what these stones have in common every time, and see these stones as new, then they can't have the concept of "stone", and without "concept" there is no generation of words.
