Chapter 229: Debate? Raise the bar?
Even if Lu Heng no longer took the emperor in his heart, he would never dare to disobey what the emperor said.
At the same time, Buddhism is the same.
It's not that royal majesty is inviolable or anything, but sometimes even if you have the ability to break the rules of this world, you can't do it. Because you break the rules, everyone can use this as an excuse to attack you.
Why didn't Buddhism simply dispatch hundreds of masters to encircle and suppress Lu Heng?
Although there are also reasons why Lu Heng is not worthy of Buddhism to mobilize the public, but more importantly, Lu Heng's identity is the Tang Dynasty National Teacher, and during this identity period, Buddhism will never dare to violate the taboo of heaven and stop Lu Heng.
Otherwise, not to mention that the imperial court and the Daomen will not agree, even if there are many factions within the Buddhism Gate that will "clean up the portal" to calm the hearts of the people in the world, and the monks who will hunt down Lu Heng will only be the rule breakers, making trouble inside and outside are not people, and they will become the public enemies of the world.
At the same time, Lu Heng is the same, if he is honest and disobedient to the emperor, the position of the national teacher will definitely be gone, and the Buddhists will not only have no scruples about dealing with him, but it will become a righteous move. Even Li Chunfeng and Daomen will draw a line with him and avoid being implicated.
Therefore, the dignity of the human emperor and the law of the Tang Dynasty are the last fig leaf to restrain extraordinary people.
After the emperor said that the Tao was the first Buddha, the monks could play a rebuttal, but they could not go against the emperor's wishes on the spot, because their real enemy was Daomen, Lu Heng, not the emperor.
The emperor said that there should be no casualties, so that Lu Heng, who originally planned to join forces with Li Chunfeng and destroy Huineng, the incarnation of the divine thought, had to give up this idea.
At this time, the emperor was already sitting on the throne, and the waiter of the Ministry of Rites announced the official start of the debate conference, and Lu Heng's mind was full of thoughts, thinking about the way to break the situation.
He must completely disrupt the opportunity to prevent Huineng from becoming a Buddha, Shenxiu admits defeat and retreats, he can't retreat. Shenxiu is willing to play a supporting role, he doesn't want to be a background wall to set off Huineng, and be nailed to the pillar of shame in history.
This is not only a dispute of will, or a dispute of Buddhism, this is not only related to Lu Heng and Huineng's state of mind in the future, but also related to the ethereal luck.
For example, Shenxiu, his retreat is equivalent to admitting that he is not as good as Huineng, his realm will always be under Huineng, not only will he always be Huineng's foil in his lifetime, but even after death, it will become a tragedy and spread through the ages.
If Lu Heng allowed Huineng to use him as a stepping stone to soar into the sky, although the impact was not as bad as that of direct competitors like Shenxiu, it would also make Lu Heng's mood worse in the end.
This debate conference is Lu Heng's stage, and he, Lu Guoshi, is the protagonist, he should be the one who gets the most benefits, not Huineng as an opponent.
However, if you miss the opportunity to destroy the incarnation of Huineng Divine Mind at the first time, then you can only follow the rules first.
In fact, there is no way to break Hui Neng's plan, and the solution is in front of him - without taking out the "Futu Sutra", he will sit on the matter of Lao Tzu turning into Hu, so that the catastrophe that Hui Neng originally undertook for Buddhism will become his own real failure and fault.
In short, it is to debate the scriptures and debate the scriptures, and with the mouth cannon, he wins Huineng in an upright way.
But to be able to debate with the Sixth Ancestor Hui, this thing is incredible to think about. Even if Lu Heng thinks very highly of himself, he is a little uncertain.
However, this made Lu Heng's thinking a little divergent, and later generations talked about Zen Buddhism's debative thinking, saying that its sophistry was greater than philosophism. For example, the series of jokes about the young man asking the Zen master derived from "it hurts and you will let it go" is a complaint and contempt for this kind of sophistry thinking.
It is an indisputable fact that Buddhism debates scriptures are greatly influenced by the doctrine of Tianzhu Yinming, and they are the best at sophistry.
Cause and clarity is a form of Buddhist logic, which is used to interpret philosophical thoughts. However, Buddhism's theory of cause and clarity is different from common logical reasoning, and even contrary to everyday logic.
The logic of people's daily life is to generalize the complex external world with abstract definitions, while the logic of Buddhism is to complicate simple things.
For example, Buddhism calls "eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind" the "six roots", which are actually human senses.
However, Buddhism's explanation of this is very complex, and "eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind" can be interpreted as "six feelings", "six inner places", "six root realms", "six realms", "six consciousnesses", and so on. And this concept has been extended, forming an incomparably huge conceptual system.
These huge, criss-crossing conceptual systems of Buddhism undoubtedly provide a way for monks to easily change their concepts, and debate with a flickering movement, so that opponents cannot find the target and focus of attack, which is also the most important reason why Buddhism has won many battles and battles.
For example, in the dispute between Buddhism and Confucianism, some monks said: Buddhism is the sun, Confucianism is the wax torch, and the sun is smarter than the wax torch, so Buddhism is smarter than Confucianism.
If Confucianism asks, why are we wax torches?
Very well, Buddhism will find hundreds or thousands of remarks from Confucian classics that resemble the teacher's lamp, and then ask you, are the words of your previous sages wrong?
This is the sophistic thinking of Buddhism, at least in this day and age, it is very advanced.
It cannot be said that Buddhist debates are all sophistry, but seven or eight times out of ten they are always correct.
Thinking of this, Lu Heng suddenly felt that he was not without a chance of winning, the so-called debate, to put it bluntly, isn't it just raising the bar?
And if you can't argue with it, can't you still lift the table?
Lu Heng is the best at doing this......
Friendship first, competition second.
Under the leadership of Lu Heng, Hui Neng, and Yuan Xue, the contestants of the two sides of Buddhism and Taoism first greeted each other to show respect, and after introducing themselves, the debate conference officially opened.
Due to the emperor's previous partiality remarks, the Buddhist monks have more or less been affected, and they have not shown strong aggression, and they have many scruples in the debate.
The Daomen rarely held up in front of the Buddha Gate.
But the status quo didn't last long.
Although Buddhism cares about the dignity of the royal family, it is by no means a person who can only swallow his anger and be beaten. Your emperor said that the Buddha comes first, okay, we admit that the Tao comes first and the Buddha comes later, so let's argue according to this principle and see where your Tao is first?
The first to attack was the Shaolin abbot, this old monk seemed to have some contradiction with Li Chunfeng, and he had been arguing with Li Chunfeng before, but he just collected his strength and didn't dare to play too much.
Unexpectedly, he was speechless when he was asked by Li Chunfeng.
Is this worth it?
If the scum of the Daomen wins the debate, what prestige does the abbot still have?
So he suddenly raised his voice and chanted the Buddha's horn. With a bang, the entire debate scene suddenly fell silent.
The entire debate conference was divided into two grades, with the representatives of the twelve major temples of Buddhism and Lu Heng and Li Chunfeng as the first echelon, and the representatives of other sects of Taoism and others in Buddhism as the second echelon.
The first echelon is the main battlefield, so when the Shaolin abbot hears the Buddha's horn, everyone knows that the real debate is about to begin!
"Master Li, what is the Tao?" The old monk asked.
"There are things mixed, there are things mixed, born congenitally, I don't know its name, the word is the way." Li Chunfeng replied.
"Oh?" The old monk seemed to be smiling, "This Tao is a mixture of things, but the Tao is the Tao of one life and two lives?" ”
"The only avenue." Li Chunfeng said lightly, and his heart began to be vigilant.
"That being the case, the old man has something to say." The old monk's eyes suddenly became aggressive, "The Tao is a mixture of one thing?" Or is it a mixture of the two? ”
"This ......" Li Chunfeng's face suddenly changed.
"If one thing is mixed, then there is already one when the Tao is not mixed, this is clearly the Tao of life, how can it be the Tao of one?"
"It's even more ridiculous if the two are mixed. When the Tao is not completed, there are already two, so why should the Tao mix the two to regenerate one, and one to regenerate two? Taishi Ling is fair, please be suspicious! ”
Li Chunfeng was dumbfounded, and he couldn't speak for a while.
This is the sophistry of Buddhism, stealing beams and changing pillars, changing concepts, even if everyone in a Taoist sect like Li Chunfeng is careless for a while, they are also asked speechless.
According to the rules of the traditional debate, if anyone in the Dao Sect can answer this question, then Li Chunfeng can continue to stay on the stage.
But if no one in the Dao Gate can answer, then Li Chunfeng will lose his qualification to continue to stay on the stage.
If Li Chunfeng steps down, then Lu Heng will be left alone in the first echelon.
Li Chunfeng frowned and didn't say a word.
If he were asked to explain the problem, he would be able to explain a lot by quoting scriptures. But having experienced debates with Buddhism, he knows very well that once he uses the Taoist scriptures to explain, he will only let the monk on the other side grasp every sentence in the Taoist scriptures and question them.
When the time comes, he will have to explain everything, but he will be interrupted when he explains everything, and he will be asked to explain new problems, and then new problems will be derived, and in the end the result will be a mess, and nothing will be explained.
The key to the debate is not to explain at all, but to refute it.
But if you don't quote scriptures to explain, how can you refute it?
Under the old monk's repeated questioning, Li Chunfeng looked at Lu Heng helplessly, and gave up in his heart.
Let him astrology and fortune telling, he is naturally fine, but arguing with monks, he is not much stronger than ordinary Taoists.
Li Chunfeng thought of this, so he said: "Senior brother, according to the rules of debate, if one question is poor, the other party will ask a question. After I step down, don't entangle with the bald donkeys, and talk directly about Lao Tzu and Hu. ”
After a pause, Li Chunfeng said again: "I know you must be very unwilling, but the coming day is long, we will not fight for the day, wait for you to ...... junior brother"
Li Chunfeng couldn't say any more, because Lu Heng had already stood up.
He didn't transmit the sound, but smiled directly at Li Chunfeng and said, "Senior brother, you can take a break and see how the junior brother debates the scriptures." ”
He looked at the old monk and asked, "Is the master asking, what is the Tao?" ”
The old monk looked at Lu Heng with a relaxed expression and a smile: "Yes, the old monk is asking this." “
Lu Heng pointed to his nose and said, "I am the Tao." ”
The old monk was stunned for a moment, and couldn't help but sneer: "National Teacher Miao Ye, how can you be Tao?" ”
Lu Heng asked rhetorically: "Has the master seen what the Tao looks like?" ”
The old monk was stunned for a moment and said, "Naturally, not." ”
Lu Heng smiled: "Since you haven't seen it, why can't I be the Tao?" ”
The old monk shook his head and sneered: "So, I can also be the Tao?" ”
He sneered in his heart, this question is actually his counterattack, if Lu Heng says yes, then he will say, it turns out that the Tao is a monk, and the Tao is also my Buddha disciple.
But if Lu Heng said no......
"No, you're not!" Lu Heng said solemnly.
The old monk had a smug smile in his eyes: "Has the national teacher seen the Tao?" If so, why haven't you attained enlightenment? If you haven't seen it...... How does the national teacher know that I am not the Tao? ”
This is called attacking the shield of the son with the spear of the son, the national teacher, the national teacher, you are too young......
The old monk is already winning, and Li Chunfeng can't bear to look at it, he can't figure it out, isn't this self-inflicted? The junior brother is quite a shrewd person, what the hell is going on?
Facing the old monk's smug smile, Lu Heng also smiled.
"Isn't the master a bad memory? I've said it all, I'm the Tao, the only way, since I'm the Tao, of course you're not. ”
The old monk's face suddenly froze, and his heart was kind!
I've met a master!
The old monk looked at Lu Heng and said cautiously: "Since you are the Tao, why haven't you attained the Tao?" ”
Lu Heng sighed, and said with a look of pity for the mentally retarded: "The master is getting more and more confused, the Tao is me, why do I have to go?" ”
"It is you who need to be enlightened......
Seal your throat with a knife!
The old monk was dumbfounded and couldn't say a word.
