Chapter 940: Reunion at Sea Seventeen
Owen's serious and cautious words made Edward's expression become serious.
"What you said is true?"
Owen nodded.
"I'll change my clothes immediately." As he spoke, Edward looked for clothes from the salute and changed into his pajamas.
Owen reminded him, "Wear clothes that are warm and easy to move around." β
"Got it."
By the time Edward was changing, Bruce and George had already arrived in stateroom. Owen instructed the two to pack their valuables and important documents and pack them in waterproof boxes.
"Two more bottles of wine and a pack of chocolates, and the rest of the stuff is left behind." Owen had already decided to abandon the clothes and other belongings that had taken up the space.
Bruce and George don't know what Owen is crazy about, but they are the most qualified noble butlers and servants, and they don't ask much about what their master tells them, they only try to do them well.
When everything was almost ready, all four of them gathered in Owen's cabin and looked at each other, waiting for the danger that Owen said was coming.
The night was getting darker and darker, and it had been more than an hour since Owen woke up the three of them, and just when Edward and the three of them couldn't resist the drowsiness and their eyes were about to close, suddenlyβ
There was a loud bang, and the whole ship shook, and both Bruce and George were unsteady on their feet, and they almost fell to the ground. Edward sat on the edge of the bed, and rolled to the floor from the shaking. Thankfully, the floor was covered with a thick carpet of Arabic cashmere, so Edward's head didn't knock out of the bag first.
And with this shaking, Owen's heart calmed down, and the time to come finally came.
"George, you go out and find out." Owen commanded.
George, who was young, strong, and intelligent, immediately walked out of the room. After about ten minutes, George rushed back to the room with a look of horror.
"Iceberg, iceberg! The Titanic hit an iceberg, the hull was damaged, and it was about to sink. β
"What?" Edward suddenly jumped up three feet high and said loudly, "Isn't the Titanic claimed to be unsinkable?" How could it sink? Did you hear me wrong? β
George shook his head violently, he also thought that he had heard it wrong, but the problem was that everything was true. Everything is a nightmare, a real nightmare.
"The size of the iceberg is very high, and the Titanic is driving at high speed, and the two behemoths collided, causing consequences that are now irretrievable."
"Those damn crews." Edward angrily scolded, "How did they get on the boat?" Why didn't they detect the huge icebergs earlier? This is dereliction of duty, this is dereliction of duty. I want them to look good, I'm going to sue them, to the White Star Company, to the White Star Company to go bankrupt. β
Owen stood up and said, "Sue them until we're safe." β
He sighed and said in a low voice: "Maybe we don't have this opportunity anymore, and we can only let our relatives help us confess to the White Star Company." β
Edward exclaimed discontentedly, "Owen, how can you say such frustrating words? β
Owen's expression was very calm: "It's not a frustrating word, but a judgment made to save my understanding of the Titanic these days." β
Owen said: "These days I am reading books and watching the scenery on the deck, and I see the number of lifeboats equipped around the hull, only sixteen, and each lifeboat can accommodate a maximum of sixty-five people, so there are only one thousand and forty people who can be rescued by the lifeboats, and this is still a situation where there is no problem." If there is a problem, it is still a question of how many people the lifeboat can save, and it will not be a thousand. And how many people were on the Titanic in total? Together with the crew, a total of more than two thousand people. This means that if the ships that come to the rescue do not arrive in time, more than half of the people will enter the sea with the Titanic. The huge whirlpool created when the giant ship sank into the sea, and the icy temperature of the sea water ...... There are many other reasons that can threaten human life, dear friends, and we have to prepare for the worst. β
"God, Owen, you're saying that." Edward exclaimed, "You also said that there are lifeboats that can carry a thousand people, and with our status, we should be able to ride on one of them, right?" β
Owen shattered Edward's illusion: "There are many women and children on this ship, and the lifeboat should be left to them before danger comes." β
"Owen, do you know how cruel you are?" Edward's legs went limp, and he sat back down on the plush carpet, "You make me despair, I think, I'd better lie in my room and die." β
Owen reached out and grabbed Edward's arm and pulled him up from the floor: "I just said the worst-case scenario, you can't despair, we have to save ourselves." β
"Self-help? How can I help myself? Edward asked, wistfully.
Owen pointed to his own clothes and then to Edward's clothes: "We are dressed very thick, enough to withstand the cold of the sea breeze, and we will each put a blanket and a bottle of spirits in our pockets, and find wood products that can float on the sea, and lie on them or sit, and if we are lucky, we may be able to hold out until the rescue ship arrives." β
"Is that okay?" Edward asked, incredulous.
Owen said: "If we don't do this, we have absolutely no hope of survival, and if we do, there is still a possibility of survival." Do you do it or don't you do it? β
"Do!" Edward gritted his teeth and stood up from the floor.
"Then let's go."
Owen stepped out of the hatch first, followed by Edward, Bruce, and George.
The four of them came to the outside deck, and they clearly saw what the Titanic looked like now: because of the collision with the iceberg, the starboard bow to the middle of the ship was broken, the five watertight compartments were flooded, and the center of the hull was cracked and sunk. The four people are not professionals, and they can't judge how long it will take for the Titanic to all sink into the sea, they only know that time waits for no one.
It took a while for the four of them to come out, and there were already a lot of panicked guests gathered on the deck, making a lot of noise and mess, and there was no way to effectively save themselves.
Owen frowned, turned his head and looked around, seeing Captain Smith with a desperate face. Owen walked up to the already trance-stricken captain with his long legs and said, "Captain Smith, it's time for you to exercise your duties as captain. You can't just look at it and don't do anything. β
"Doing things? How do I do things? The Titanic sank, I'm finished, I'm finished. Captain Smith cried out in anguish, "As the captain of this great ship, I am a sinner for letting it sink and let the passengers on board die with it." β
