Chapter 12: Bodhichitta

I originally planned to take a nap, but I remembered Pei Feng's entrustment of "meeting friends with Buddhism", so I turned around and went to the shelf to ask for a scripture, and turned around and looked at it on the soft couch. He has not read this classic translated by Qiuzi, and at the beginning of the chapter, he talks about how the Buddha is about to attain Nirvana, how the world is panicked and weeping, and reads: "The world is empty, we have no salvation from now on, there is no worship, poverty and loneliness, once we are far away from the Supreme World-Honored One, who should be asked again if there is doubt", the small Buddha hall in memory and the "Buddha and Bodhisattva" who had protected him in peace and thoughtfulness belonged to him alone.

Among the religions in the Central Plains, the original Taoism was the most prosperous, and their royal surname Li has always respected Li Er as the ancestor, and they also took Laozhuang Taoism as the state religion. But since the communication between the west and the Central Plains has become increasingly dense, Shakya Buddhism has also flourished in the Central Plains, and there are poems: "Four hundred and eighty temples in the Southern Dynasties", which can be seen in its current scenery. Women and children can recite a few verses of the scriptures, and dignitaries and nobles also donate more temples to the Buddha as merits.

In Li Yuanqi's few memories, she often knelt in front of the Buddha shrine and silently recited the scriptures, a thought is one or two hours, and at the end of the year, he will always pray to the Buddha and Bodhisattva: "May the Buddha and Bodhisattva bless the world with peace and tranquility, the holy dragon body is safe, and the Pei family is safe and smooth." "After all, it takes three knocks in a row to complete the homework.

At that time, the mother always wanted to take him to chant and worship the Buddha together, but he always fled to the side and refused to obey. The mother concubine was quite helpless, but she only treated him as a child and was playful, and if she was not sincere and afraid of colliding with the Buddha, she would not force it. It's just that the concubine didn't know that he refused to worship because he felt that the Buddha statue was very terrible.

The Buddha's white and red body was only draped in a piece of cloth, and his face was also white, although he had a light smile, but in his childhood, he was more stern and terrifying than the Taifu. Taifu can only see if he has exceeded the rules in walking, sitting, and lying, but the Buddha seems to be able to see in his heart, as if the slightest bad thought has been seen.

Therefore, since he was a child, he did not want to be close to the Buddha, but he always loved to watch his mother do her homework in the Buddhist hall. The light through the window lattice cast on her kneeling silhouette, like the light of a Buddha, and suddenly she turned around, and smiled like a bodhisattva on her beautiful face, beckoning him to come over......

But this kind of situation is too sparse, and before he could have any insight into the way of life, the mother concubine left him in a hurry, and the catastrophe uprooted the Pei family. As young as him, he fell into the mud from the sky almost overnight, and every time he remembered the appearance of his mother's devout incense in the Buddhist hall, he hated the Buddha's ignorance more and more, otherwise why did the mother's concubine pray every year, but in exchange for such a reward? As a result, he became more and more alienated from the Dharma, never knelt down to worship, and refused to read the scriptures and recite the Buddha.

But I don't know why, those scriptures that I heard my mother read when I was young are like engraved on my heart, even if I haven't read them from time to time, after more than ten years, I still blurt out. And he also remembered the rules of prayer and kneeling clearly, as if he was born to know, and he was smooth and unrestrained. Therefore, when Pei Feng found a plan for him to get close to the Buddha and meet friends with the Fa, he thought so, and thought about it, maybe the reason planted by the mother's prayers in those years was not to protect the Pei family, but to achieve him today.

Thinking about this, Li Yuanqi couldn't help but feel hot in his heart, stood up, picked up the incense thread and lit it on the ever-bright lamp, and bowed three times to the Buddha in the Buddha shrine. I saw that the Buddha statue **, still as I saw when I was a child, the kind eyebrows and kind eyes went straight to the hearts of the people, and the mottled inside was revealed, and the slightest evil was as clear as snow. But now, Li Yuanqi is no longer afraid, the so-called Buddhist gods, but they are all in their own hearts. If you hide from heaven and earth, and know from yourself, you will have nothing to hide, and you will have nothing to fear. Then he turned around and went back to the couch, flipped through the scriptures, and was speechless for a while.

About an hour or two later, a little novice was ordered by the abbot to come and invite him to go to the dining hall for lunch, and Li Yuanqi took care of his appearance and followed the little novice out of the pavilion.

At this time, it was noon, and the sun in the west was particularly dazzling, illuminating the entire Buddhist temple. Compared with when they came, the believers who burned incense and prayed at this moment have been in an endless stream, overflowing the court. Unlike the Central Plains, where most people burn incense and pray for women and children, as a Buddhist country in the west, the people of Qiuzi are more devout to serve the Buddha.

Li Yuanqi looked at a low room on the west side of the main hall, and there was a master at the door who was making porridge, and many believers lined up, and one by one they went into the low room to eat. Thinking that it was the dining hall, he walked to that side, but was stopped by the little novice who led the way: "The king of the county, please go this way, there is a dining hall for pilgrims to eat, and the food and drink of the monks in the temple are not in one place." ”

When Li Yuanqi heard this, he nodded, remembering that on the first and fifteenth days of the first and fifteenth days of each month, when the Bodhisattva Christmas, ordination and other important days, the temples in the Central Plains would always give alms. Although most of them are porridge and light noodles, because they are supplied by Buddhism, in the eyes of the believers, it is also like a Buddha's light, and they squeeze through the leader, drink it all, and dare not leave the particles. So he asked, "I don't know what day is the Buddha's gate today, and why is the temple fasting and eating?" ”

Xiao Shami looked puzzled and replied, "Why does the county king ask so? ”

Li Yuanqi was stunned for a moment, thinking that there was no such custom in the western realm, so he smiled and said: "I was supposed to celebrate with the believers, it seems that the temple is fasting and eating like this every day?" ”

The little novice thought about it and said with a smile: "Oh, that's for this." Yes, because our Buddhist temple is some distance from Qiuzi City, the people often go out early in the morning, and they have to walk for half a day to arrive. The abbot was merciful and ordered me to boil thick porridge every day, with a few side dishes to relieve fatigue and offer them to the pilgrims. ”

After listening to this, Li Yuanqi admired it in his heart, and praised it in his mouth: "The abbot is really a living Buddha in the world, so compassionate, no wonder this Zhaoli Buddhist Temple is becoming more and more famous, and the incense is extended." ”

After hearing this, the little novice replied with a smile: "What the prince of the county said is very true, but the monks do not care about fame outside the body, but only send their hearts to goodness and petition for the public. ”

When Li Yuanqi heard this, he was quite surprised, he didn't expect this child-like little master to be so out of the world, it seems that the Dharma here is really pure, and he must be extra careful in his speech and demeanor, and he can't be taken lightly. So he waved his hands busily, answered the word "teachable", and said no more.
