Chapter 6 A man must live happily
In fact, it is much easier to make a fire on a desert island than to chase a big girl to get a marriage license, at least it is simpler than I imagined, and I paid attention to the materials around me when I went out on a safari yesterday, and I did find some, such as an arbor with crossed legs, such as an old bird's nest that seems to have been abandoned for a long time and woven from grass, these things are placed there for me to pick up as God has arranged, and the rest, I only need to prepare a small open space in the hole, It's just a fireplace out of mud.
Of course, I also wondered if I could make a fire kang, and I did it a few years later. But now, I don't have such a good foresight, and I don't have so much patience for me to squander, even this fireplace, I have tossed for a long time, and I want to give up countless times and use it every time to drill wood to make a fire instead.
My fireplace is very similar to the classic model in many European buildings, except that there is no chimney, which makes me depressed for a long time, because every time I add firewood, there will always be a lot of choking smoke, especially when I don't pay attention and put a tree trunk that has not dried up, that feeling is like carbon monoxide poisoning.
But it still worked, at least not because I didn't have to spend two hours a day wrestling with a log and hay drill.
And drilling wood for fire is not as difficult as I once thought, the experience summed up is that don't rub your hands around to learn TV dramas, harm others and yourself, the easiest way is to follow the wind to clamp the hay at the fork of the tree, and then it is the repetitive work back and forth, as long as you see the smoke, a little breath, you can see the first great discovery in human history: "fire".
With the help of this thing, I have indeed improved my life a bit, and it can even be said that the generation of fire has increased my joy of life and the motivation to recreate life, especially after three days, after my beef jerky was completely exhausted and tears were shed on me, fire became my inseparable companion.
Obviously, my skill in catching rabbits is increasing day by day, which creates a good barbecue object for my fire, but unfortunately I have no spices, nothing, so I can only venture to hit the beehive with a gun far away, and then squeeze the remaining honey on the ground into those beef jerky plastic bags, but this is very poor, and it can easily spoil, which makes me distressed but helpless.
Of course, with honey, take some large leaves, wrap the rabbit meat, tie it up with tender vines, put it under the fire, and "boil" it through a layer of soil, wait for 20 minutes, and then take it out and roast it on the fire.
In this way, I survived countless boring days on the island without starving, and I was able to taste delicious rabbit meat that was charred on the outside and tender on the inside.
Of course, all this is not a matter of course, but has experienced many failures, and some valuable lessons must be summarized:
First, the rabbit must die to move on to the next step! (The Most Important Lesson);
Second, don't be too busy with the fire, otherwise the pillars and shelves will be burned to the point that there is not even a single scum left;
3. Keep your mouth shut, don't just reach out and press every few minutes to see if it's ripe! (2nd important lesson);
Fourth, before baking, look at the sky in the distance, whether it is possible to rain! (third most important);
5. You must catch a rabbit before setting up a fire in the yard, otherwise you are likely to go hungry all night!
Sixth, if you are unlucky and don't catch a rabbit, don't scold the street, save your strength, starve overnight and die the next day.
And so on and so forth......
Every day I would stand on the top of the hill to see if there were any search and rescue ships passing by in the distance, and even a few times I felt that I had hallucinations, even though there was nothing on the sea, but I could imagine the shadow of a ship on my own, until one day I was completely hysterical and cursed and roared at the sea, and finally I was exhausted to stop doing this crazy act and return to calm.
And that madness has been almost a month since now.
The terrifying creepy "click" still tickled at my nerves from time to time, waking me up for many nights, but it didn't hurt me, and I didn't know what it was, but during this time, I got used to it, and even once, I heard the loud and sudden noise, but I just scratched my nose and rolled over and fell asleep.
It's been almost two months since I learned to be self-sufficient, and although there was a madness in between, I still managed my emotions very well, because I knew that it didn't work, and I had already comforted myself in the first few days that it would be the best thing to be alive.
In the past two months, especially in the last few weeks, I can say that I have worked very hard, perhaps because I have judged in my heart that the possibility of being rescued is becoming more and more slim, I have stopped the habit of climbing the mountain and watching the boat every day, and instead spent more time on meaningful things.
For example, I cut out a small table and a small mazar with a thick trunk of a felled bowl, although the process of doing it was to dismantle it, dismantle it and do it again, and finally smashed out an object that looked like a table, thanks to the intangible cultural heritage of the frame structure left by my Chinese ancestors, and preserved my precious nails, and I will no longer have to sit cross-legged by the fire in the future; Another example is that I gradually learned to judge the rainy signs of this desert island, as long as the west wind blows, the wind can blow the crown of a big tree not far away, then the chance of rain will be very large, but the wind in other directions will be fine, or the chance of rain in other directions is not so great.
I also strengthened the fence of my yard a lot, and the fences on both sides of the yard were almost two meters high, and they were very strong, which was very different from the first time I built it with a small wooden box board, and I myself slept in the cave next to the fireplace more and more steadily.
But it wasn't all smooth sailing, and the day after I finished the fence on both sides, I was about to start the fence and gate in front of the yard when I almost lost my life.
That day I was in the yard looking at the fence in front of me in a daze, thinking about how to combine the "doors" to get out, suddenly a lot of dirt and broken stones slipped down from the cave, which scared me out of my mind, but the dirt was dry, obviously not a mudslide, but it broke a piece of wood that I was supporting the rain, I panicked and didn't know what was happening, and thought it was a landslide, until I climbed the hill and looked at my cave, I realized that there should have been an earthquake, because the hill was also shaking, It shook at least three times in less than ten minutes, and even shook a boulder from the top of the mountain in the distance and slammed it into the forest below it, I had never heard such a loud noise in my life, accompanied by a strange cry of frightened birds, the scene was very terrifying. The direction of the beach was also rough and unusual, so I settled down and thought that it might be an earthquake under the sea.
Beijing is a very special capital, it is said that the master of heaven said at the beginning that this is a disaster-free city, and it is true that there is no earthquake in Beijing, and there has been no flood, but in the first few years there was a flash flood in the summer, and it also washed away a village, but in the memory of the old people, it seems to be the only time.
But after all, I had never encountered such a violent earthquake before, when I woke up from the stunned state, the earthquake had passed half an hour, and when I was sure that it was safe to run back to the cave, I saw that the cave was safe and sound, but the dust on the ground seemed to warn me that a pillar was not enough!
Oh yes, and the fireplace I used to paste with mud, in order not to choke to death by the smoke, and to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, I specially found a calf-thick rotten heart tree, and used a dagger to hollow it little by little, and finally used plastic sheeting to put this "homemade chimney" obliquely on the shelf with the rain at the entrance of the hole, although the style is not very beautiful, but every time I add coarse wood to leave the fire, I don't have to worry about the smoke and dust of the hole.
The most important thing is that this kind of oblique construction will not make the wood burn very quickly, but it will promote air circulation so that fresh air can be sucked into the hole, and I will not die of hypoxia poisoning.
For the rest, I didn't want to do anything, but I tried to go fishing, hey...... Don't mention it!
Oh, by the way, I've tried to name the island these days, "Garden of Elysium", "Elysium", "Happy Camp", "*** (Zhong Nan Hai)", but I always feel that one is not as good as the other, so I gave up such a meaningless idea.
Boredom is really boring, but I still maintain the habit of going out with a gun every day to wander around the territory, and recently in the depths of the forest I found a kind of tree, which is very hard, and at first I wanted to cut it to make a table, but I found that its material was not cut at all, not to mention that it was only the thickness of the mouth of the bowl, and I almost destroyed my little axe, and only cut off a small piece of wood the size of a palm, and this wood was sharpened into a shovel by me on the rock, although I did not know what I wanted a shovel to do.
I also found a bird that called like a pigeon, and it did look like a pigeon, but instead of building a nest in a tree like wild pigeons, they made a nest in a hollow, even if it was only a small hole.
I tried to catch a few youngsters and wanted to raise them, even as pets. In the actual time that followed, it turned out that raising them was really raised, but as soon as they were raised, they flew away, and later, I often encountered them in the woods, because I knew them like my own children.
During the months when I kept the pigeons, the little pigeon had just flown and knew how to fly back, and I was surprised to find in one of the pigeons that it seemed to be eating a yellow grain, which was shaped like the kind of millet we used to eat, while other pigeons I had never seen this thing in it.
This discovery was very important to me, and if it was really millet, or a similar edible grain, I didn't seem to have to worry about rabbits every day, after all, rabbits are a job of skill and luck, and for this reason, I was hungry many times!
Since then, I have been very concerned about the path of the pigeon, and even went to the mountains to watch the direction of the pigeon from a distance, but I always found nothing in that direction with a gun, which made me always a little disappointed.
Hopefully, this thing is like a colorful soap bubble, but as soon as you see it, it suddenly bursts in front of your eyes.
