539, Boltzmann's brain
I'm Ronald Cohen, and I'm leaving this book with the few days of my life left.
I know that there is no hope of escaping from the deep well in this life, may Gaia bless, and someone will be able to see this letter in a thousand years, this is the last hope of mankind!
Forgive me for my clumsy handwriting, my vulgar diction, and the rambling of a dying old man.
I know that no electronic document can be kept for that long, although I have prepared more information on the computer, including Ramla's spatial model.
But our ship has long since run out of energy, and everyone is dead, except for me, the old man, who is still frying on his laurels. By the time you read this letter, my bones and the Swordfish should be rotten, the ship's computers could no longer be booted, and the hard drive data was long gone.
Only this piece of special paper made of nanomaterials must still be there. Theoretically, this paper can be preserved for more than 100,000 years, but in view of the harsh environment of Ramla, I conservatively adjusted this time to 10,000 years.
Of course, the "year" I mean is the well-known unit of time with reference to the Earth's space-time scale, which may not be applicable or meaningless here.
Everything is static here.
I could see the stars in the distance—the entire Orion cantilever surrounded us, but I knew they weren't in the same space as me. What I saw was nothing more than a projection of the universe in a deep well.
This is a static space-time in the Milky Way, a dead well in the universe.
The well water has no waves, reflecting the sky like a mirror. Cyanobacteria spread in the water, and mayflies feed on them. It seems that life is still breeding, but the well water is not connected to the Milky Way, and it cannot exchange energy and matter with the vast universe that I am familiar with.
According to the second law of thermodynamics, the entropy in an isolated system will continue to increase, and this closed deep well will eventually complete the heat death in a very short time, and move towards real death, annihilating like a soap bubble.
And we're now in this well.
The only hope is that when the well dies, the energy of spatial annihilation pushes the Swordfish to the edge of the well, and the strings of time and space bounce us back to Ramla. Although this is a very unlikely event. And back in Ramla, before the scorching sun and the flood destroy us, the chances of being found by someone other than the Itesa (I pray are earthlings) are even less likely.
Of course, if you see my last words now, it proves that this small probability event has happened, and I am glad that this small event has happened.
We are all children of Gaia!
You may not believe it, but this Mother Earth in Greek mythology is really the god who gives birth to life!
But what I want to talk about today is not mythology, but real cosmic events. This event will make it clear to us where we come from, where we are going, and what is the purpose of our active life.
There are many things involved, scientific, theological, philosophical ......, and given the name of Gaia, I must mention Greek civilization one more time.
Gaia is the mother of the earth in ancient Greek mythology. She created the gods and all things, except for Kaos, the god of chaos, and it can be said that everything was created by Gaia.
But Greek mythology and Greek civilization are not the same. Greek civilization was the source of European civilization that flourished for thousands of years, and its development was an independent event, no matter how much it was disconnected from ancient civilizations elsewhere. Greek mythology, on the other hand, was pieced together from the tales that wandering bards such as Homer, Hesiod, Pinda, and Baicreides picked up from the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, and it actually had other origins—the myths of ancient Egypt, Phoenicia, and the Sumerians.
Ah, that's a bit of a long story, so I don't want to go into the relationship between these civilizations and myths, but if you have a historian or archaeologist who knows better than I do, or if you have a computer running with the Encyclopedia Britannica, you can verify it yourself.
While the Greeks invented many names for their gods, Kaos, Gaia, and Ouranos were not. The names of these three gods appear in the myths of many ancient civilizations, just like all myths have the Great Flood, which tells us that the origin of human civilization is the same source.
The names of Kaos and Gaia are also found in the Mayan civilization across the ocean, but few people know about them, and I have only seen them in an article written by the late Mr. Jaeger on the Mayan mythology.
Also mentioning these gods are the Itsa's people who live in Ramla.
Oh yes, you guys already know what Ramla is, right? If you don't know, then well, let me tell you, it is this special space where you are now, it is a collection of wormholes composed of multiple wormholes wriggling in the Milky Way, and some scientists call this kind of wormhole "anthill".
Ramla is connected to many planets, and it is not actually entirely natural, but was created by Gaia using her intelligence.
Or do you have to go back to Gaia, you have to explain Gaia clearly to explain Ramla, it's an endless cycle, oh my God, where do I start?
Forgive me for talking too much, I am too old, you know, I am now in my nineties, and the young officers and men on the ship are dead, and it is a miracle that I am still alive!
Let's move on to the Itsa.
I don't know if you've ever met an Itesa, but be careful! They eat people, worship violence and promiscuity, and spread diseases and pestilences. This is not only an uncivilized savage race, but also the guardian of the evil Itessa.
In their myths and legends, Gaia became a god who was hostile to Unab, and Itesa led them to rebel against Gaia's rule, how ridiculous! Everything was created by Gaia, Gaia is the mother of all things, how can a child kill his mother? It was Ouranos who should rebel, oh yes, in the Mayan and Itessa populations called Unab.
If you know Greek mythology, you should know that it was Ouranos who betrayed Gaia and ruled the gods with brutality, and in the end it was Cronus who overthrew him. Gaia is the eternal mother, and Kronos is the real hero! As for the later Zeus, it was a name made up by the Greeks and has nothing to do with this article.
Okay, I'm going to get to the real origin of Gaia.
The second law of thermodynamics tells us that the micro-increment of entropy in an irreversible thermodynamic process is always greater than zero. As an isolated system, the entropy of our universe will keep increasing, and when it reaches its maximum, the universe will move towards heat death.
The entropy increase theorem, which has the same status as the conservation of energy, allows us to see the irreversibility of death and makes us feel the despair that the universe will die one day.
So what is the meaning of life?
According to the principle of entropy increase, everything should go from order to disorder. According to this theory, there should be no more orderly thing in the universe than the current one, and then there is no reason for life to evolve from the lower to the higher.
However, the good thing is that the entropy of the universe does not always increase consistently and evenly. The universe is so big, at certain times, in certain regions, it will always have entropy fluctuations, like a tide. This gives life the opportunity to emerge and evolve.
Boltzmann said that if the known low-entropy universe is derived from entropy fluctuations, then there should also be many low-entropy self-consciousness in the fluctuations, such as a lonely brain.
A long, long time ago (forgive me for not knowing how long), in the great nebula of Orion's cantilever in the Milky Way, there was an accidental large entropy drop, from which a huge Boltzmann brain was born-
Her name is Gaia.
