APEC Blue

In the past few days, the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to see how the air quality in Beijing is, hoping that the smog will be smaller, so that the guests from afar can feel more comfortable when they come to Beijing. Fortunately, people are working hard to help, and the air quality in Beijing is generally much better these days, but I am also worried that I have said this early, and I hope the weather will be good tomorrow. The good air quality in Beijing in the past few days is the result of the joint efforts of our relevant localities and departments, which is not easy to come by. I would like to thank all of you, and I would also like to thank you for this meeting, which has made us more determined to protect the ecological environment, which will help us do a better job in ecological and environmental protection in the future. Some people also say that the blue sky in Beijing is APEC blue now, beautiful and short-lived, and it will disappear after this while, and I hope and believe that through unremitting efforts, APEC blue can be maintained.

From "where has the time gone" to "brutal", and then to "APEC blue", Xi Jinping has used a lot of new vocabulary over the years. And each of these hot words is like a hyperlink, and clicking on any of them will unfold a vivid story.

At the beginning of November 2014, after a series of "smog smog" in October, Beijing's sky was blue. Monitoring data shows that from November 1 to 12, except for November 4, when it was mildly polluted, the air quality in Beijing was excellent at all times. This period also coincided with the APEC meeting being held in Beijing. People call this blue sky "APEC blue", although it is a bit ridiculous, but it truly expresses the expectation of the blue sky.

In fact, in order to ensure the smooth convening of the APEC meeting, since the beginning of November, factories in North China and surrounding areas have stopped production and limited production, construction sites have been suspended, and some city cars have been restricted from odd and even numbers...... In a certain sense, it is the special measures in the special period that have made Beijing "APEC Blue". In this regard, some netizens questioned: Stopping the factory, turning off the boiler, and taking a holiday, is it a bit formalistic? Xi Jinping is thoughtful: "In fact, it is taking advantage of APEC to try to promote coordinated governance." The joint action of several provinces and cities eventually reduced pollution emissions by more than 30%. This has accumulated useful experience for us in carrying out industrial restructuring and industrial layout in the future. It's a practical effort, not just for meetings. โ€

After the APEC meeting, Xi Jinping went to Brisbane non-stop to attend the G20 summit. On the plane, when the accompanying reporter said the hot word "APEC blue" to Xi Jinping, Xi Jinping used a very dialectical sentence: turn bad things into good things. "Isn't it a good thing that everyone realizes that the smog is not good, and after forming a consensus, they take the initiative to control the haze and awaken and improve their awareness of environmental protection?"

Mr. Lu Xun said: "We must dare to face it, so that we can dare to think, dare to speak, dare to do, and dare to act." Xi Jinping took the initiative to mention "APEC Blue" on such an important occasion as the APEC meeting, which not only fully reflects his governing style of "not avoiding contradictions and not covering up problems", but also shows a positive response to the expectations of the people.

In fact, in early 2014, when he visited Beijing, Xi Jinping specifically mentioned haze control, he pointed out: "To increase the intensity of air pollution control, to deal with haze pollution, improve air quality The primary task is to control PM2.5, and we must take major measures from the aspects of reducing coal burning, strictly controlling vehicles, adjusting industries, strengthening management, joint prevention and control, and governing according to law, focusing on key areas, strict index assessment, strengthening environmental law enforcement and supervision, and seriously pursuing responsibility." โ€
