Learning is so beneficial, and sharpening is so sharpening.
——Quoted in "Zhijiang New Language: Be Good at Learning Typical" and other articles
■Interpretation
Skills are not innate, they are acquired through study and practice. As the saying goes, "the edge of the sword comes from the sharpening, and the fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the bitter cold", without the persistence of a battle, without a lot of trials and hardships, it is difficult for a person to have profound knowledge, let alone learn the knowledge thoroughly, let alone apply what he has learned, and the unity of knowledge and action. Attaching importance to study is a distinctive characteristic of Comrade Xi Jinping. When Xi Jinping was in Yan'an, he loved to study and read books under the kerosene lamp every day. Since then, from going to school to entering politics, he has regarded learning as a basic project to increase his talents. This kind of learning is a continuous and dynamic process, "to be good at learning, good at re-learning", so as to overcome the panic of skills and keep up with the pace of the times; This kind of learning is also a process of combining with practice, and only when what you have learned and can you apply what you have learned can you be regarded as having learned and learning well. It can be seen that the learning emphasized by Comrade Xi Jinping is not only self-cultivation, but also to apply what you have learned; Not only a way of life, but also a political responsibility. In other words, "if our cadres want to be motivated, our party is to be motivated, our country is to be motivated, and our nation is to be motivated, we must vigorously promote the style of study."

Zi Si said: Learning is so beneficial; Sharpen so the edge also. I taste the secluded place and think deeply, it is not as fast as learning; I try to look at it, but it is better to climb to the heights. Therefore, the wind is blowing, the sound is not sick, and the people who hear it; Climb the hill and beckon, the arm is not lengthened, and the one who sees is far away. Therefore, the fish multiplies the water, the bird multiplies the wind, and the grass and trees multiply the time.
——(Western Han Dynasty) Liu Xiang "Saying Yuan: Jianben"
■Definition
The Western Han Dynasty scholar Liu Xiang's "Shuo Yuan" recorded anecdotes from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to the Han Dynasty. "Jianben" is the third chapter of "Shuo Yuan". The so-called "building the foundation" means to establish a foundation and lay a foundation. In the general statement of "Jianben", Liu Xiang proposed: "A gentleman is expensive to build the foundation and re-establish the beginning." ”
The above passage is Zisi's exposition on learning. Zisi said: "Learning is so beneficial; Sharpen so the edge also. "Sharpen: sharpen. This means that if you want to grow your talents, you must study hard. To sharpen the blade, you have to sharpen it diligently. Then Zisi pointed out that instead of thinking alone, it is better to learn from others efficiently; Instead of standing on tiptoe and looking, it is better to climb up to a high place and see far. This exposition is basically the same as the content in "Xunzi Persuasion": "I try to think all day long, it is better to learn what I have to learn; I taste (qǐ) and look at it, it is better to climb the heights of the broad-mindedness. Ascend and move, the arm is not lengthened, and the one who sees is far away; Blowing with the wind, the sound is not a disease, but the hearer is prominent. ”
