12 Twenty years

The northwestern part of Middle-earth, a land where elven civilizations flourished, was called Beleriander.

To the west of Beleriande stretches to the sea, to the north is the Eredengrin, commonly known as the Iron Mountains, where Morgoth and his minions are stationed.

The eastern and southern parts are mostly surrounded by blue mountains.

The official name of the Blue Mountains is Ered Luin, a name that is very foreign to the Shire, as in this world.

But if he could see beyond Ered Luin to the south of it, or learn about the existence of a group of longbeard dwarven city-states south of the mountain range, then he might have guessed what world he was in.

There were seven dwarven tribes of the First Age, scattered throughout Middle-earth.

Stationed outside of Beleriand, south of the Blue Mountains, in the middle of the Misty Mountains, the longbeard dwarves are among the first and most powerful of all the dwarves to awaken.

The longbearded dwarves have another name - the Durin clan.

Of course, Charles, who had never seen a dwarf before, would obviously not notice this for a while, and even never because of the distance.

However, another interesting thing is that the Haradin gathering place is not far from the Blue Mountains, and the other two dwarven city-states hidden in the winding Blue Mountains, Beregost and Nogrod, are two places frequented by the dark elf Eor.

By mistake, he is actually not too far from his original life.

It's just that E'ol doesn't know where to fly at this time because of butterfly magic, and it is unlikely that he will meet Charles.

……

The Haradin settlement was built on a hilly green terrain with wooden houses that stood tall and low. Occasionally, there are cave dwellings.

The topography of the agglomeration is generally gorge-shaped, flanked by two rolling hills, the center of which is quite deep, and a clear stream is located at the bottom of the agglomeration, which flows slowly through the adjacent hills on both sides, and at the same time divides the agglomeration into two.

The Haradin Terrans are one of the three major human races in which Beleriander lives, but they are generally withdrawn in their "temperament" compared to other races, and do not have much contact with elves or even humans of the same species, and even their own people are not very friendly.

This can be seen from the distribution of buildings in the gathering place.

The houses were scattered, and each family was not very close to each other, except for those who were very close to each other, and most families were at least five or six minutes away by foot.

In fact, after observing along the way, the charr has initially discovered that the personality of this human race is very strange, they are united, but they are not united.

The reason for this is that when they encounter danger, these people hold each other and trust each other very much, but they usually seem very withdrawn, do not like to chat and talk, and always have a faint sense of alienation from other people.

After arriving at the gathering place, the group was warmly welcomed as they brought back some necessities for life.

Charles himself was taken to the house of the middle-aged widow who had "adopted" him—a wooden house at the top of a hill of moderate height.

His presence didn't attract much attention from the hermitage, only a nearby family at the bottom of the slope of the same hill ran to take a curious look.

The man of the house even tried to reach out and touch Charles's face, but he avoided him, and was then chased away by Harrovi, the widow who carried Charles back.

Charles stayed here for the time being. And after discovering that it was not difficult to communicate with Harrovi, he completely stabilized in this humble family.

This stability is 20 years.

……

Twenty years is a long time for a short-lived human race, but for an elf, it seems to be a flick of a finger, and it is not at all inconspicuous.

Even for elven babies, it is only a part of childhood life - the general growth time of elven children is 50 years, and the physical growth of some special elves can even take as long as 100 years.

In this long and fast time, there is not much to praise, and it has been quite peaceful.

The Haradins had a strange composition, they didn't even have a patriarch or leader, they were more of a small alliance of families than a group.

Usually, they don't move around each other unless necessary, and each family has been living a self-sufficient life near their home.

And because it was born for a short time, the folk customs here are very simple, and there are not even many who are good at lying.

There is no intrigue, no danger, and there is basically nothing to worry about except for peace and quiet, in a sense, this is a paradise.

But at the same time, the standard of living here is very low, there are basic items such as pots and pans (from other ethnic groups), but other items, clothing, weapons, and even culture, etc., are at a primitive level.

Charles was uncomfortable at first, but gradually became unimpressed.

The widow Harrowe had a dull and hardworking personality, and even when Charles learned the language of the Haradins, she could not communicate much.

It can even be said that she never speaks unless necessary, and only buries herself in her work.

In addition to cooking, chopping wood, and tidying up the fields (they grow wheat, but the level of production is low), the only way to do this is to go to a large forest east of the Haradin in search of wild fruits (which they use as a currency to trade for other goods)

Occasionally, she would get together with the women of the tribe to deal with the men's prey, and then bring back a little meat, but since Charles began to hunt in the forest, she rarely did this.

After adopting Charles, she never went out with the clan "caravan" again, and stayed in the gathering place.

In her own words, she is. My husband and son died before, and I was not afraid to venture out of the house.

But now with Charles, she doesn't dare to go out.

On the other hand, the neighbors Marry's family are the opposite of Harroway's personality, very lively and enthusiastic, living on the same hill, they will run up every once in a while, and will take the initiative to help when they encounter any problems.

Of course, there was no such thing as a widow being right or wrong, and in fact the Charles had always been amazed that this tribe of Terrans, despite its lack of culture and barbaric manners, was pure in nature.

The people here are generally kind and friendly, and the occasional rat poop or two is always rejected by others.

And according to Charles's aesthetics, he thinks that Harroway is a very ugly human woman.

The hostess of the neighbor Marry's family is still beautiful and the family atmosphere is also very warm, and they have a baby girl of the same age as Shire.

The baby girl's name was Hardor (the current Haradin names generally carry the syllable Ha, and very few do not).

She was basically born in the same year as Charles, but when she was six years old, Charles looked just as big when she was ten, and even when she got married at twenty, Charles looked like a human child of six or seven years old.

This disappointed Mr. Maleel, who originally came to see Charles as beautiful and handsome, and had the idea of looking at his son-in-law, and the little baby girl who was very fond of sticking to Charles at first gradually grew up and gradually disliked to play with him, but would always laugh at him when he met him.

There was no malice, so Charles was depressed for many years.

The dull and peaceful time kept passing, Charles's body slowly grew and changed, and many memories and grievances in his mind were temporarily suppressed in the bottom of his heart, and occasionally took them out in the dead of night to think about them so as not to forget.

It wasn't until her elderly adoptive mother, Hollow, suddenly fell ill that the quiet days came to an end.
