Chapter 13: Akeya's Diary (July 16, Part II)
Staying in the library is an ordeal for me right now. Lack of sleep, and dealing with dense words and inexplicable drawings, can only accelerate brain fatigue. After less than an hour, I surrendered, explained to Saretta, and went to the dorm to catch up on sleep.
Groggily lying in bed, I quickly fell asleep. When I woke up, it was past 1200. I didn't have to eat lunch, so I got up, rubbed my eyes, and went to the cafeteria.
It happened that at the door, I met Saraita who hurried out of the cafeteria. As soon as she saw me, she turned a corner and almost trotted in front of me.
"I'm awake, just in time to tell you. I'm not going to the library in the afternoon, you go, I'll look for you later. β
"Okay, what's wrong?"
"The team that went out in the morning came back and asked our 7 groups to send some people to help. I'm going to have to go over before I finish eating. β
A wave of uneasiness welled up in my heart, stimulating my unawakened brain.
"Why didn't you tell me to go?"
"I don't know, I don't think there are so many people. See you later. β
Looking at Sareta running away, cold sweat oozed from my neck, the fierce sunlight destroyed the last bit of my spirit, and only the hunger in my belly drove me to instinctively sit down in the cafeteria and think about Saretta's words repeatedly.
Between the lines, she revealed two abnormalities. First of all, the early return of the troops means that they have not entered the station, nor have they opened up the experimental field, and they are unlikely to encounter resistance, and something must have happened that I did not expect.
Second, Sareta was sent to help urgently, but I didn't, and no one came to me while I was sleeping. She told me verbally that there was no radio notice about the incident.
In this way, I was forcibly blocked from an "abnormal event" that was happening, which was obviously targeted.
Thinking of this, I instantly lost my appetite, grabbed some food, filled a bottle of water, and hurried to the library.
I didn't have the heart to read, and I sat here to wait for Saretta. Asking around at this time will quickly become the object of suspicion, and only Saraita is relatively safe enough to let me know what is going on.
However, there are so many possibilities, and none of them are beyond my control.
Once again, drowsiness prevailed. I leaned back in my chair and took a nap, trying not to think about complicated things.
*****
"Hey, wake up, see you're asleep?"
A jolt woke me up, and I straightened up, removed the book from my face, and saw Sareta's curious face.
"Hmm, what time is it?"
"It's already half past three, you're so unenergetic today, let's go back and rest."
"I'm fine, where's the experimental team?"
"Well, don't mention it."
Sareta grumbled as she sat in her chair, her body bent at 90 degrees, her chin propped up on the table.
"I don't know if the people who went out are doing their work, and a lot of field survey data allows us to help analyze it, and we are busy."
"Really? So what did they do? β
"Who knows? And I looked at the data records, and they didn't go to the red pine forest at all. β
This sentence was like an overelectricity in my head, and I couldn't help but shake a little.
"What do you say? Didn't go to the red pine forest? β
"Yes, even the people who went out only found out after they arrived at the place, and the destination was temporarily changed, and they went to Tambrava."
With a "snap", the book in my hand fell to the ground, and Sareta quickly squatted down to pick it up.
"What's wrong, Ravi?"
My expression froze to the point where I didn't react to Sarata's words. Tambrava? Didn't you say go to the red pine forest? How did it become a tambrava? Lily had taken refuge in Tambrava by now, and by that time...... Damn it!
But why......
"Is your face so ugly and uncomfortable?"
Not only was my body unwell, my brain could no longer think normally, and what I had eaten at noon was tumbling in my stomach. I cursed to myself and fell on the table in pain.
I did something superfluous. If I had calmed down at the time, I could have understood that even Kotri had to inform everyone else about the mission announced in the meeting, so how could it be said directly to everyone in the experimental team? This is clearly to use some changes that only the cadres know about, to find loopholes in the experimental team, and even Kotri's absence, is just a false move.
Why? I knew there was fraud, but I still went to report it? It is highly likely that the transferred troops have been wiped out, and I will be exposed.
It's all over.
*****
At 1700, several soldiers came to my dormitory and asked me to follow me to the elevator on the sixth floor. I didn't eat or drink for a few hours, and I sat on the bed in my dorm room. I racked my brains trying to find something I could do, but no, I couldn't do anything. The situation is completely out of my control, and it is likely that Lily has already been in danger, even killed.
With heavy steps, I arrived with the soldiers at the designated location, where the two newcomers from Experiment 2 were being escorted by the soldiers - they were also listed as suspects. Today's battle confirms Milmilli's words, and now is the time to test the three of us, or me.
"Hurry up!"
The soldiers hurried and brought us to the westernmost part of the sixth floor. There are no buildings here, and it is next to a cliff with a door in the cliff. I found out about this door early on, but my electronic card won't open.
A soldier stepped forward and opened the door with an electronic card in his hand. I was surprised to find that there was a spacious elevator in the back. I had not been able to find the way from the sixth floor to the seventh floor, because the seventh floor was the residence of the "snakehead", and no elevators, elevators, or mountain roads led there, but now there is an answer to this question.
"Richard Marty, come here!"
A researcher next to me followed a couple of soldiers into the elevator, while the other soldiers watched me and another guy. They had to go through them one by one, and I used this time to think about what to do.
First of all, I can be sure that when I secretly left the base, I was not witnessed, and after I went down the mountain, no one found what I left behind, otherwise there would be no interrogation, and I could have been shot. So what the "snakeheads" can do is interrogate our movements in the past period of time, which is not a problem for me.
I'm a low-level member of the test team, and all movements are under surveillance. The e-card showed my location at all times, and I was always in the same group of people when I went shopping, and there was a time limit, which I never showed my feet on. The joint with Jed is done using the shopping time, and there are no flaws.
In this way, the "snakehead" should not be able to find any conclusive evidence for me to disappear.
I pondered for more than ten minutes, and the elevator doors opened again. But only the soldiers returned, and Richard was gone. This time the soldiers took another unlucky bastard. Sensing the danger to his life, he let out a series of trembling sounds and was dragged into the elevator by the soldiers. He couldn't utter a complete word until the elevator door closed.
Unsurprisingly, more than ten minutes passed, and only the soldiers returned, and this time it was my turn. I calmly followed them into the elevator.
Next, it must be a lot of bad luck, I don't know if I can leave alive. But even if I die, I will struggle to the end.
The elevator doors opened.
The view presented to you is the exact opposite of what the other floors of the base look like. Directly in front of you is a stone road, surrounded by flowers and shrubs, which spreads out all the way to make it look like a large garden.
Deep in the garden, at the end of the stone path, there is a small three-story building, which presumably is where the "snakehead" lived. Two soldiers around me pointed their guns at me, and so I stepped on the stone road and entered the small building, and the sight in front of me immediately gave me a dismount.
In the middle of the living room, the "snake head" sat on the sofa, and behind him stood Tren, and there was a big man with a big face full of flesh - Kortri Bardora. He was dressed in a skush, and the bulging muscles of his body seemed to tear his clothes apart. Seeing us enter, Kortry waved his hand, and the soldiers pushed me in front of the "snakehead", then lined up behind me, blocked the door, and raised their guns.
In the corner of the room, there were two bodies that were still bleeding, and the trail of blood on the ground stretched from the corpses to my feetβthis was the place where they had been killed. I just glanced around the corner and set my sights on the "snakehead".
The "snakehead" stared at me for half a minute, and asked slowly, "Ravi Shumi, huh?" What were the members of Experiment 7? β
"Yes."
"Are you...... Joined at the beginning of May? β
"Yes."
"Then you should know why you were brought here."
I took a breath and looked at the two bodies again.
"Yes."
The "snake head" nodded slightly. "I'm sad that things are the way they are today, but the existence of the spy is certain, and I hope he is among the two corpses. Rest assured, you only need to finish what they didn't do and you'll be able to wash yourself right away. β
It seems to be a pity, but in fact, he could have killed me. Since we are sure that the spies are among us, it is not bad to kill me again, there is no need to make it so complicated. There is only one reason why it is like this: he has this hobby, a boring hobby of playing people in the palm of his hand.
"What do I need to do?"
"It's simple."
The "snake head" snapped his fingers, and behind him, a door opened, and several people walked out. Two of them were soldiers, and among them, that one......
It's Lily!
*****
Her hands were tied behind her back, her upper uniform was in tatters, and several lacerations were cut open, revealing skin stained with blood and wounds. The skirt on the lower body was also torn, and two blood stains hung on the legs. The ribbon on his head was gone, and the long hair that hung down covered his bowed head. Through the gap between my hair, I could faintly see a tired face.
After a few steps, she leaned forward, and was grabbed by the shoulders of two soldiers to barely fall. Coupled with the injuries on her body, it is not difficult to imagine how she was treated before this.
Anger instantly flooded my brain, my fists clenched, and my teeth clenched together. Why? Why is she here? No, I should understand this question, it must have been captured in the battle for Tambrava. That's exactly what scared me the most!
Lily looked up slowly, and we looked at each other. I quickly looked away, but I had to turn back right away - everyone in the room was staring at me, especially the "snakehead" who had been looking at me all the time, and I took advantage of the situation to turn my eyes to him.
"Alright, Ravi, now it's up to you."
With a wave of his hand, Kortry walked over behind him, smirked and shoved the pistol into my hand.
"This is Silverwing's captive, kill her, and that's the end of it."
What the? Want me to kill Lily?
How is that possible! I wouldn't shoot any of my comrades, let alone Lily! Instead of killing Lily and saving yourself, you might as well die here!
But what if I don't shoot? The results are clear. I'm going to be with those two bodies and disappear completely. What about Lily? As a captive, it's no surprise how he's been treated. Killed subsequently? Was used as a hostage to blackmail a colonel and then killed? Killed after being humiliated twice? In short, it's a dead end!
No, no matter what you do!
"But I've never killed anyone." I try to excuse myself with this reason.
"There's a first time for everything, don't care."
Pretending to be confused doesn't work, I have no way out, and there are only these two options in front of me? Is there any other way?
As the minutes passed, the helplessness and despair that I had never felt before pressed every nerve and almost crushed me.
Kill it! That's right, get out of here! Since he asked me to kill, it means that there was at least one bullet in the pistol. As long as I can hold the "snake head" hostage, I will have a way to get out of here, and I can also keep Lily safe! Yes, it works!
As if grasping at a life-saving straw, I quickly judged the situation. "Snakehead" was only three paces away from me, but he was sitting on the couch with Tren and Kotri next to him, and it was a little difficult to hold him hostage. But if I could get one step closer for any reason, I could have pulled him up from the couch and put a gun to his temple.
This has a very low success rate, and as long as the soldiers behind me are not slow to react, I will be knocked down with a single shot before I can catch the "snake's head". For Lily's sake, though, I had no choice. The next thing to consider is how to deal with the other ......
"Forget it, look at his cowardice, he doesn't have the guts."
It was Lily's voice that completely interrupted my thoughts. What do you mean? Is she asking me to shoot? Is she trying to help me with my tasks? Sacrificing yourself to save me?
Absolutely not! That result doesn't make any sense! When Tokar left, I understood the meaning of the words in the bar. He had to live according to his own ideas, even if it cost him his life. I, too, have found reasons worth paying with my life. It's not too late, I can't go back on my true thoughts anymore!
"You're scared by a, boy! Finished! β
Kotri took the lead in coaxing, and the soldiers laughed along. This simple-minded fool is quite good at stirring up the atmosphere, and I am completely confused. The laughter of the soldiers, the urging of the "snakehead", swirled around my almost blank mind. I broke down, my hand shaking as I grabbed the gun.
In a trance, two hands stopped my trembling hand and slowly lifted it up, and the people around me laughed again. Then I saw that Lily was already standing in front of me, holding my hand and putting the muzzle of the gun to her forehead!
"So you can aim, right? Please, don't shake your hands. β
My eyes were full of horror and fear, which I had never felt in the face of any enemy. Lily is ready to come to her senses, but can I do it?
Her hand was still so delicate, caressing my wrist and miraculously regaining my composure. Her voice was still so crisp, even if it was lowered, it brought her heart to her.
"Live, Akeya, take care of yourself......"
She smiled, bleeding at the corners of her mouth, the most beautiful smile I've ever seen, and the last time I've seen hers. There was a magical power to the smile that made me accept her will instantly.
"I will."
"Goodbye, Arkya."
