Chapter 3: Akeya's Diary (April 26)
April 26, 139 Nov. 139
0010, there are soldiers assembled in the base, ready to go. In contrast, the command post was much quieter. Tokar and I entered the command post through the back door, went to the basement, and opened one of the rusty iron doors. Behind the door was a hut with four lockers, and we each looked for our own things and began to change clothes.
This is a special combat suit, using a special treatment reinforced by EXP (Expa), which is not significantly different from ordinary leather jackets in appearance, but has a better bulletproof effect than ordinary bulletproof inserts. There are pockets on the chest, shoulders, and arms, which contain the necessary items such as blasting leads, miniature communicators, and anesthetic needles. He wears an electronic watch on his wrist that also has a GPS function.
We do not use helmets, instead we have GPNT-19 type night vision devices. It uses rectangular lenses, which can be used for communication in addition to night vision. When interacting with GPS, data is displayed, presenting a glasses-free 3D image. For the task, the night vision devices we use are specially made to cover most of the face when worn, but they are still lightweight.
In terms of weapons, we usually carry a "Marauder M6A" assault rifle behind our backs, which is an extension of the current M5 rifle, inheriting the advantages of the M5A's high accuracy, and also equipped with a small grenade launchport, which can fire a variety of special ammunition for different purposes. I have a spare pistol on my waist, and I use the latest T5 model in the GLOCK series. Two scabbards are tied to the outside of the legs, and a saber about 40 centimeters long is inserted inside, which is also a single-molecule weapon reinforced with EXP.
This set of equipment, which has absorbed a lot of technology that has not yet been widely circulated, has exceeded the average level of equipment of peacekeeping forces, and was acquired by the colonel through some special channels.
After the change, I locked the door and Tokar opened another iron door, behind which was a dimly lit underground passage for emergency escape. It leads to an almost unused warehouse outside the base, where we are staging ground.
The Colonel and Jade were already waiting in the warehouse, Jade was wearing the same combat uniform as us, except that he was carrying a sniper rifle. The colonel sat in a chair, wrapped in his coat, with his laptop in his lap, his eyes fixed on the screen, and from time to time he tapped the keyboard, moved the mouse, and pressed his fingers on the screen.
"The Ministry of Intelligence wants us to organize our troops and attack again before the enemy retreats, and annihilate them. Although we are solely responsible for this time, the effect will definitely be poor. ”
"It's all scared, they probably have already run away, right?" Tokar said.
"Not yet. Five minutes ago, our little bird (alias for a small unmanned reconnaissance aircraft) had reconnoitred, and there were still lights and human figures in the village. So you have to hurry. ”
The colonel turned the computer 180 degrees so that the screen was pointing at us. I saw that it showed the terrain near the village, and there were many red circular markers around the village.
"The red* field in the middle is their camping area, with woods, hillsides, and meadows nearby. There must be their sentry in there. It was in this area that our troops were supposed to be spotted and then stopped as they approached the village. ”
He pointed to a red circle and nodded vigorously.
"In other words, we need to get rid of these eyes and ears first, right?" Tokar continued.
"Yes, but it has to be fast. There must have been regular communication between the village and the sentry post. ”
The colonel coughed a few times and wrapped his coat tighter.
"This time I ordered the troops to take a detour to the south, where the roads were in better condition. You have to kill the sentry on the south side of the village, and then go to the north side of the village and wait. ”
"North?"
"After being attacked, the enemy will deploy troops to the south to deal with it, so we choose the north side that is most likely to be vacated." I explained to Tokar.
"Not only that," added the colonel, "because there is no road to the north, the security will be relatively poor. As for the southern sentry, I'll mark a few approximate locations on your GPS. ”
I asked: "As soon as the enemy learns that the guard post has been eliminated, he will be alert. Isn't that the same as being discovered? ”
"That's what happened. But we have to take risks. Remember, you are not Silverwing soldiers right now, and you can't synchronize your forces to act in unison. ”
That's right, this is a shortcoming that we can't avoid. The colonel gave us special equipment so that we could perform special tasks that were difficult for regular troops to accomplish in a capacity other than the Silver Wing. During a visit to the orphanage, the colonel had such a plan. The reason why Tokar and I were chosen, the colonel said, was "quite potential and possibility".
He brought us back to the army, ostensibly made us cleaners, and secretly arranged for Jade to do special training for us. The training done by ordinary soldiers is simply heaven compared to us.
For the first few years, Tokar and I focused on a wide range of disciplines. For example, pushing a cart on the road under the scorching sun. At first, it was a car, and then it became a bus. Or brave the heavy rain and climb the steep cliffs at right angles. If you miss, you fall into the ocean and swim back to climb – as long as you don't fall to your death on the reef.
Once we have enough physical fitness, we start the formal course, which is how to effectively kill and damage the enemy in a short period of time, and how to infiltrate the enemy's interior and carry out sabotage, espionage, assassination, etc., just like an agent.
The Silver Wings had similar secret services, but the colonel didn't seem satisfied. Because the process of transferring agents is cumbersome, it has to be interfered with by superiors, and it cannot be done in a timely and fast manner. So, there we are.
After a few years of training, Tokar and I grew up very quickly. Nine years ago, we started doing things like we do now. Today, we are all seasoned veterans.
Because of our special status, we cannot be known to others, and the colonel will only use us as a last resort. But no matter how careful you are, you will inevitably be seen by the Silverwing soldiers or other witnesses. They don't know who we are or what their purpose is, they only know that we are on the side of the army.
They call us "nameless".
*****
0030, I, Tokar and Jed, rode on the dirt bike stored in the warehouse, followed the Colonel's GPS markings, and set off towards the destination.
After the ravages of war, there was not a decent road in Area F, and our motorcycles sped across the gravel ground. In order to avoid people's eyes, we deliberately chose a relatively long route. After a bumpy half an hour, we parked our car about 20 kilometers south of the village.
The weeds here grow unusually luxuriantly, reaching the height of a man. If you cut off some of it and camouflage it, it's an excellent ambush spot. With the help of reconnaissance tools, it is easy to grasp the movements in the vicinity without being detected.
We went into the grass. Jade walked ahead, carefully clearing the grass to make the way, Tokar and I following behind, observing the surroundings.
The wind blew and the grass rustled, which could drown out the sound of our footsteps. After carefully walking out of more than 200 meters, through the night vision device, I vaguely saw several figures in front of me.
The Colonel's judgment was as accurate as ever. Jade stood still and gestured to Tokar and me to outflank. The two of us, one on the left and one on the right, slowly moved closer to those people.
As I approached them, I heard one of them say "Received", presumably to contact the team. Jade heard it too, and he sped forward, his footsteps getting louder and louder. Several of them noticed, and one of them stood up, but Jade pulled out his knife and ran behind the man, both hands at the same time. Covering his mouth with his left hand and stabbing his right hand, he pierced his ribs with a single blow.
Several of the others immediately picked up their guns and tried to fight back, but Tokar and I rushed forward at the same time, easily killing them from behind, leaving four bodies on the ground. Jade checked their gear, and it was indeed a four, indicating that there were no other sentinels here.
"The sentry is cleared, Colonel." Jade said.
"Roger. The troops have departed, and you are on standby at the predetermined location. ”
"Understood."
We set off again and in less than half an hour we were to the north of the village, a few hundred meters from the entrance.
In front of you are a pile of ruins, crawling with weeds. There are soldiers of "Vipers" everywhere, there are fixed sentry posts, there are mobile patrols, and there are machine guns in some of the higher places, and a frontal breakthrough is unlikely.
We moved some distance along the grass and eventually narrowed the distance to the enemy to 300 meters. The next thing is to wait for the troops to arrive, open fire on the enemy, and we take the opportunity to get some oil and water. But Tokar was never a quiet man, and he kept looking around for new discoveries.
"Akeya, what do you see the light over there?"
Tokar stabbed me, pointed ahead, and whispered. I looked in the direction he was pointing, and there was a bright light in the northwest corner of the village, green and blue, clearly not a searchlight, nor like any other lamp.
"Maybe we should check it out." Tokar said to Jade.
Jade looked in that direction as well, and after a moment's consideration, agreed. So we left our hiding place and continued panning around the outskirts of the village, until we were able to see enough light to see. It was more than 200 meters away in front of us, and it was dark and bright, accompanied by the roar of machinery.
Behind several walls, we found the source of the light and sound – a device that resembled an underground drilling rig. The outside is cylindrical, with a column more than five meters high in the middle. Several people circled around the machine, they had no weapons, they were supposed to be technicians of the "Viper". There are more soldiers on guard next to it than at the entrance of the village, and this machine must have something to say.
"Major, what is that?" I asked.
Jade switched the night vision device to telescope mode, looked at it carefully for a while, and shook his head.
"I haven't seen it, I guess it's a new thing of 'Viper', and I passed the image to the colonel."
Tokar turned on the night vision device's recording function and filmed the scene. That's when I saw a man walking towards the machine. The man was tall and burly, and unlike the soldiers in combat uniforms, he wore seasonal clothes and strode with considerable confidence. Seeing him appear, the technicians stopped and seemed to greet him.
The man waved his hand, and the technicians went about their work again, pacing around the machine himself. When his face was facing us, I could see his features clearly.
"Looks like Tren." I say.
Tren is a high-ranking cadre of the "Viper" and has appeared in our field of vision several times. According to the information available, the "Viper" has at least three high-ranking cadres, who directly obey the orders of the leader "Snake Head" and command the others. Tren's appearance made us believe that there must be a secret to that machine.
A few minutes later, explosions were heard from the south side of the village. However, these people in front of them did not show a trace of panic, and even those technicians did not stop what they were doing, as if they were accustomed to it. Tren gave them some advice, and ran towards the south of the village, where several soldiers followed him away, while the others remained at their posts, and the technicians had noticeably quickened their work.
"Friendly fire, let's go."
Tokar pulled the rifle over, but Jade held it down, and he had to endure it.
The gunfire intensified, and as the battle continued for several minutes, I saw more Viper soldiers leaving their posts and running south. There were only five enemies in our field of vision, and the technician's work was nearing its end, and he began to disassemble the machine.
It's time.
*****
"Up!"
Jade gave the order, and Tokar and I rushed out at the same time. I shot the first two soldiers at the front, and Tokar took the lead with a faster speed, pounced on the unarmed technicians, and in a burst of fire, the two technicians were beaten to the point of blood, and the rest scattered and fled for their lives.
It was only after this happened that the other three soldiers reacted and began to return fire. Tokar and I scattered, ducking behind the wall, but the soldiers were exposed to Jed's vision. Jed uses a sniper rifle to deliver bullets into each soldier's head with incredible precision. Get these people out of the way, and Jade immediately shifts his position.
"Don't check that machine yet, get ready to attack!"
Sure enough, hearing the gunshots, more soldiers appeared from the south, more than a dozen of them, Tokar and I relied on cover to return fire, they suppressed us with a hail of bullets, and gradually approached.
Tokar simply put his gun back on his back, he didn't like to use a gun in the first place, especially since the enemy was already close at hand. He held both swords in his hand, and a soldier came from my right, and as soon as he raised his spear, Tokar moved and in a flash of his form came to the man, slitting his neck with a single sword.
The walls protected us, and with Jed's sniper cover, it was difficult for the enemy to take advantage of the fire, so the shootout turned into hand-to-hand combat. But in the entire Silver Wings, no one was Tokar's opponent in terms of melee skills. Surrounded by enemies, Tokar is like a deft bee, shuttling among the enemies, seeing the opportunity to stab the knife into their vital points.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, I quickly moved to an unnoticed corner, intending to support Tokar with my gun. A cold sensation suddenly crept up on my back, and I hurriedly dodged sideways, dodging the sneak attack behind me, rolling around, and turning my body around. What I saw at this time was Tren with two knives.
His knife was a palm's width and an arm's length, which was very commensurate with his figure, and his face was not angry and arrogant, giving people invisible pressure. He flicked his knife to the side and pointed it at me.
"It's you again, nameless."
Tokar has played Tren and commented that he is on par with him. For such an opponent, the gun is completely scrap metal, and I also carried the M6A on my back, pulled out the saber with my right hand, and quietly placed my left hand on the pistol on the back waist. Tren turned the knife in his hand and paced with ease.
"We also have a friendship, why don't you give a face today, let me see your true face."
*****
Tren has a shot!
His steps were big and fast, and the knife in his right hand was blowing in the wind. I knew that this man had a lot of strength and that it was not wise to be tough on the front, so I dodged the knife to his right so that I could avoid being flanked by his left hand.
But I was about to fight back, Tren's two knives swept at the same time, and I had to retreat again, and he immediately caught up and continued to attack, and so on five or six times in a row, and each time he could stab before I could counterattack, and stifle my counterattack, and I could only dodge and dodge.
After Tren slashed the sixth slash, I jumped backwards, opened a distance of about two meters, and with the reaction force of stepping on the ground, I threw myself at Tren, holding up my saber to fight against the enemy. Tren held his two knives together, fending off my attacks and pushing me away with all his might. I took a few steps back and drew my pistol, only to see him throw a knife in his left hand. I subconsciously shot and knocked the knife away, and I also fell into Tren's trap. He took advantage of this moment to approach me, saw the gap in my abdomen, and stabbed me in the waist!
I backed back as best I could, but the pain in my abdomen told me that my battle suit was torn and that I couldn't figure out what kind of knife he was. I didn't have time to dwell on it, the emergency dodge left me off balance and I fell to the ground. As soon as he got up, Tren chased after him, and he was so unforgiving that he couldn't stop slashing with a knife. After fighting for more than a minute, I felt that this opponent was too difficult.
Luckily, Tokar cleaned up the miscellaneous soldiers and came to help. Seeing Tokar coming, Tren quickly picked up the knife he had thrown. Before he could get ready, Tokar lowered himself and drilled almost to Tren's right. Seeing the knife slash at him, Tokar leaped to the ground, dodging the attack and slashing at Tren's right rib. But Tren reacted quickly, turning and panning, perfectly dodging Tokar's attacks and taking a few steps back. Tokar rolled on the spot and stood up.
The situation turned two-on-one, but there was no uneasiness on Tren's face. He glanced out of the village, making sure he wasn't within Jed's range, and looked at us again.
"Nameless, I can meet you everywhere I go."
Tokar and I slowly dispersed, sandwiching Tren in the middle, and Tren set up a fight. At this juncture, the machine suddenly made several loud noises, and the light on it slowly disappeared.
When Tren saw this, he seemed to see a signal to retreat, said "There will be a time later", turned around and ran. We were about to chase after us, but we heard a "boom", and the machine exploded in the firelight like an explosion, and the air wave rolled up a pile of scrap copper and rotten iron, and fragments of various shapes were scattered all over the ground.
"Withdraw! We're coming! Jade shouted urgently.
Tokar and I immediately withdrew from the village. In the distance, the troops drove in, the "Viper" also retreated, and we got on our motorbikes and disappeared into the night.
*****
When he returned to the warehouse, the Colonel's posture was unchanged from before departure, and he was watching the image transmitted by Tokar, with a puzzled expression on his face, it seemed that even the well-informed Colonel had never seen such a machine.
"Did you find anything?" Jade walked over to the Colonel and looked at the screen.
"I can't tell what it is, judging by its appearance alone, it may be used to detect subterranean material."
"Underground matter? But there is no oil and no coal mines, what is the detection? Tokar asked.
"At the very least, it's certain that the 'Viper' came to collect something. For the rest, I will ask today's combat troops to write a report and hand it over to the Ministry of Intelligence, so you can go back and rest early. ”
This is not the first time this has happened. In December last year, we also had the opportunity to see the high-tech equipment of the Viper, but after the seizure, it was found that everything inside from the operating system to the storage system was short-circuited. Their important equipment has a self-destruct function, and even if it is a sneak attack, it is quite difficult to capture an intact piece of equipment.
We returned to the basement, unloaded our equipment, and took turns walking out of the command post and returning to our respective quarters from different routes. As soon as I entered the house, I threw myself on the bed. After every battle, your whole body is tired, so don't think about anything at this time, and sleep comfortably.
