Chapter 19: Chasing the Corpse (Part II)

Shawan Crematorium is the only cemetery in the entire Shenzhen-Hong Kong City that provides cremation services. Therefore, whether it is an unclaimed nameless body in the hands of the police or an ordinary person after death, it will be transported to Shawan, and after cremation, the ashes will be buried under the tombstone.

It is nearly an hour's drive from the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Sixth Hospital to the Shawan Crematorium, and even though there are very few vehicles on the road in the early morning, in order to hurry, Lin Guoan still flashes his police lights and whizzes on the dim main road.

"Hello? I am Lin Guoan, the captain of the SWAT team. Lin Guoan held the steering wheel, broadcast a number, and said, "You quickly send someone to the Shawan Funeral Home to stop all cremation matters, and wait until I arrive." โ€

"The director of the Shawan Police Station, tell them to delay the time."

Lin Guoan pulled off the phone and explained to me.

I nodded, but my heart was tormented.

With a flick of the tail, Lin Guoan parked the car in front of the funeral home, and I didn't care about the image, so I pushed the car door and rushed into the funeral home.

There weren't too many people in the funeral home late at night, except for a somewhat sleepy janitor, and all that was left in the hall was a few flickering white lights. This was the first time I had entered the funeral parlor, but it was not as gloomy as I had imagined, the hall was empty, except for the four walls of the cabinets inlaid with the ashes of the deceased, the rest of the place was not much different from the hall of a normal building.

I poked the janitor who was sleeping on the table and asked:

"Hello, there's a female corpse that just arrived, where is it now?"

The janitor was awakened by me, looked at me sleepily, and said impatiently:

"Walking in the opposite door, the third room on the left, the family is arguing with the police."

I thanked him, turned around and ran towards the door he pointed to, and grabbed Lin Guoan, who had just entered the door.

Passing through the iron gate, a wave of hot air rushed into the face, and it seemed that this was the place where the crematorium burned the corpses. The room was supposed to be quiet, but there was a low quarrel.

"You police still have the right to care if I burn my daughter's body or not?!"

A low, angry scold came from the room. When I went around to the door, I found two young policemen in police uniforms explaining something to a middle-aged man in mourning clothes.

"I'm sorry, this is an order from our superiors, and we are deeply sorry for Ling Qianjin's matter, but in order to catch the murderer as soon as possible, please cooperate."

One of the more experienced police officers explained.

"Fart! Obviously the autopsy report has been released, what do you want my daughter's body for? โ€

The middle-aged man cursed through gritted teeth.

"My daughter is dead, can't you let her go in peace?"

A woman with a somewhat pale face beside the middle-aged man said with sobs.

Presumably this is Li Sihan's parents.

"If you dare to harass me again, I will definitely report you!"

Li Sihan's father had red eyes and yelled at the two policemen in front of him. In normal times, he would not dare to talk to the police like this. But now that her daughter has died, instead of catching the murderer, the police chased her to the crematorium, saying that her daughter's body still needed to be examined, and her face turned white with anger.

"Mr. Li, calm down."

The two policemen were also uncomfortable, but they couldn't resist the direct order from their superiors.

I stood at the door, and when I saw Li Sihan's parents so broken, my heart felt sour. Speaking of which, Li Sihan is only my age, maybe my parents happily sent their daughter to college, but within a few days, I received the bad news of my daughter's tragic death, and saw how inhumane treatment my daughter suffered before her death, how could I stand it.

"Mr. Li, I am the captain of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong City Special Police Brigade, and I am ordered by the director of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong City Public Security Bureau to assist the criminal department in investigating your daughter's case."

Although Lin Guoan is a tough guy with iron bones, he can no longer remain calm in front of the couple who have lost their daughter, so he stepped forward and said loudly in a voice that trembled slightly because of excitement.

The two policemen turned around, saluted Lin Guoan respectfully, and said respectfully:

"Hello Lin team!"

Lin Guoan nodded, took out his police ID card under the gaze of Li Sihan's parents, and handed it to the two of them.

Li Sihan's father took the document with some hesitation, looked at it carefully, and handed it back to Lin Guoan, and said in a slow tone:

"Officer Lin, you have already completed the autopsy on my daughter, why do you need my daughter's body?"

Lin Guoan replied softly:

"Mr. Li, I understand your current feelings, and this kind of thing happening in Shenzhen-Hong Kong City is not what our police want to see. But it is true that when our higher forensic department reviewed the autopsy report of the corpse, it found some suspicious points that need to be further confirmed. โ€

"And an autopsy? Daddy, you can't let your child suffer anymore! She's been disemboweled, and I don't want her to leave without even taking her body intact, woo-woo-"

When Li Sihan's mother heard that her daughter had to undergo an autopsy, she immediately burst into tears, and then she was a little shaky.

The two policemen quickly stepped forward to support Mrs. Li, helped her sit aside, and comforted her.

Lin Guoan looked at Li Sihan's father apologetically, and then explained:

"No, no, Mr. Li, Mrs. Li, we are just making a final confirmation, there is no need to do anything to Ling Qianjin's body, just check it here, but I have to ask you to avoid it first."

Father Li looked at his wife sitting on the side with some concern, and then at his daughter who was covered with a white cloth behind him, sighed, and said slowly:

"Okay, you guys check."

"Thank you for your cooperation, we promise that no one will disturb your farewell to your daughter after this time." Lin Guoan comforted, turned his head and motioned to me, "Xiao Mu, let's get to work." โ€

The two policemen helped Mrs. Li out, and Li's father looked at his daughter sadly and staggered out.

Lin Guoan closed the door, his expression became solemn, and said:

"Let's get started."

I nodded, and stepped forward to lift the white cloth that covered the corpse.

Li Sihan lay quietly under the white cloth, wearing a tulle white dress, the bloodstained face in the autopsy report was washed, only some pale skin remained, and the funeral beautician painted light makeup for her and changed into a new white dress. If it weren't for the shallow bruise on her neck, anyone would have thought it was just a sleeping beautiful girl.

I looked with some sadness at the girl lying in front of me, the good years were buried because of the whim of someone or others, the girl who should have laughed and laughed in the university and experienced the sunshine, but now she was lying on the cold bed in the funeral home, waiting for her body to turn to ashes in the furnace and say goodbye to this short life.

I couldn't help but think of Xun Qingzi, that night, the dissecting building. If it weren't for the talisman jade on her body that blocked the ghouls' attacks, maybe she would have been lying here, how would I feel? Uncomfortable? Remorseful? Or self-blame. I don't know, but I'm glad she didn't give me this chance to find out.

Taking a deep breath, he forcibly suppressed the thousands of thoughts in his heart, glanced at Lin Guoan beside him, and formed a rather complicated spiritual seal in his hand, and sent it towards Li Sihan's corpse.

"Mirror Mantra."

The crystal clear spiritual power seal slowly expanded, and finally turned into a half-human-high mirror-like arc, floating above Li Sihan's head. The light and shadow on the mirror were circulating rapidly, and some small fluorescences visible to the naked eye flew up from Li Sihan's body surface and converged on the spiritual power mirror, and the things in the mirror gradually became clear.

"Captain Lin, don't let anyone disturb me!"

I said in a deep voice.

Lin Guoan nodded, signaling me to rest assured.

I slowly closed my eyes, and the soul power spread out from the Heavenly Eye emblem that appeared at the center of my eyebrows, hovering around the room for a while, and slamming into the silver aura mirror.

The body trembled slightly, and then recovered.

When I opened my eyes again, I was no longer in front of the scene of the Shawan Crematorium, but an overgrown gravel and sand path, with a few faint street lamps looking extremely weak in the endless darkness. In the distance, the shadows of several dead tree trunks stood out in the darkness, like cracks in the void, cutting through the already dark night sky.

I'm now back to the night of Li Sihan's accident.

"Da-da-da-da-"

The sound of high-heeled shoes stomping on the gravel road came from behind me, and Li Sihan was still wearing a snow-white dress, holding a phone in his hand, talking and laughing with the person on the other end.

"It's okay, Mom, I'll be home soon, and the party will be near home."

"Oh, the freshman party, it's not a non-trivial party, Mommy don't worry, it's coming soon."

Li Sihan said coquettishly as he walked forward along the path.

I knew she couldn't see me, I was just a bystander. No matter how anxious he was, he couldn't do anything to stop Li Sihan from stepping into the huge net compiled by the Grim Reaper step by step.

"It's hanging, it's out of power, I'm almost there."

Li Sihan hung up the phone, put it in his bag, and hugged his arms tightly.

"The seniors are really capable of making trouble, and they ended so late, otherwise I wouldn't have taken this path."

She muttered to herself, her eyes glancing uneasily to either side, her steps quickening.

The already dim street lamp flickered, but it startled Li Sihan. She steadied her breath and pulled her phone out of her bag tremblingly, only to find that it had run out of power and couldn't turn it on.

"Why is it so dark......"

Li Sihan said to himself with some fear.

The deep black devoured all the light, and the weeds at his feet were like demonic tentacles, constantly rubbing Li Sihan's ankles.

"Jingle Bellโ€”"

The sound of the tip of the shoe hitting the glass sounded in the darkness, and Li Sihan sat down on the ground in fright, with the faint light of the street lamp in the distance, the glass was just a beer bottle.

Li Sihan squirmed and got up, patted the dress, and kicked the wine bottle angrily, as if he was silently venting.

The bottle rolled down the slope of the road, but it hit something soft.

The whistling night wind suddenly rose, blowing the corners of Li Sihan's clothes. The criss-crossing branches of the dead trees in the distance cut through the blue-black night sky curtain, like blood vessels filled with criminal blood, just in front of Li Sihan's eyes.

The dark black weeds were broken in half by the wind, and a calloused palm was clasped in the dirt, and the fingertips trembled, but it grabbed Li Sihan's ankle straight.
