In the last chapter on refractive surgery, I saw a comment that this book could easily be regarded as a popular science book.

That's right, because of this, I am also very cautious when writing about the professional part, and I will check a lot of information and literature before I start writing, and if I can't find it clearly, I will ask friends who have learned this kind of professional knowledge.

First of all, before talking about refractive surgery, I would like to say that I am not recommending refractive surgery for everyone, but I emphasize the fact that myopia is 700 degrees.

Myopia above 700 degrees is considered severe myopia, which can cause great trouble in their lives, and the degree of deterioration will be more severe as they age.

This degree of myopia is actually a congenital defect, and to some extent it is a "disease".

This is the same as everyone has had the experience of reading a book with a flashlight in the dark, watching pictures on the TV, and staring at the mobile phone for 18 hours, but some people's eyesight has been 1.5, and some people's eyesight will decline sharply.

Therefore, myopia is not just the reason why you don't protect your eyes.

So let's talk about the risks that everyone is worried about.

First of all, there are two sides to everything, and myopia surgery is the same, there are both advantages and risks, and for eye surgery, people are most worried about blindness.

From a scientific point of view, myopia laser surgery is only done on the surface of the eyeball, and a cold laser is applied to the surface of the eyeball, and the laser cannot penetrate the cornea during the operation, nor will it enter the eye to damage the eye structure and tissue, so there is no risk of blindness and blindness.

In addition, some people will worry about whether blindness will occur in old age, in fact, the same reason, laser surgery to treat myopia only improves vision, and does not damage the retina of the eye and cause blindness, blindness mainly occurs in diseases caused by retinal optic nerve damage, and the surgery does not touch the inner eye, nor does it change the structure of the eye. Therefore, from the principle of myopia laser surgery, there is no serious harm in myopia laser surgery, let alone blindness.

Finally, there is keratoconus, the so-called most serious complication.

In the literature, "keratoconus" is defined as a congenital corneal dysplasia characterized by non-inflammatory, progressive thinning of the central or paracentral cornea with anterior conical protrusion.

Some patients are inherited from autosomal recessiveness, which usually occurs during adolescence and progresses slowly. In the early stage, it only manifested as myopia and astigmatism, but with the development of the disease, the corneal cone swelling gradually worsened, resulting in the deepening of myopia and astigmatism, and the irregular astigmatism component of the cornea gradually increased, and the corrected visual acuity gradually decreased.

To put it simply, most of the diseases of keratoconus are determined by their own genes, and most of them are determined by their own genes, which is mainly manifested as progressive thinning of the center of the cornea.

Its incidence is around 1 in 2500, and in the general population, 4 to 5 out of 10,000 people may develop keratoconus. It can be seen that keratoconus is a congenital developmental abnormality related to genes, that is, a person carries this gene, whether he has myopia surgery or not, it will develop the disease, and myopia surgery is not the cause of keratoconus.

Of course, keratoconus can be avoided, and the key to solving this problem lies in preoperative screening and surgical design. Before doing myopia surgery, it is necessary to do a very comprehensive preoperative examination, especially the anterior segment analyzer, which is very important, some in the early clinical stage, the incubation period can be screened out in time, and the sensitivity of the screening is so high that even some normal myopia is excluded from the surgical door.

Therefore, on the whole, after strict screening and careful analysis before surgery, the probability of keratoconus is extremely low.

In addition to these more basic principles, the data is also a relatively objective statement of facts, so I have also looked into it.

First of all, you should know that any medical behavior, especially surgery, needs to go from repeated medical theoretical demonstrations, animal experiments, clinical observation of volunteers, to multi-period, multi-national and multi-center clinical observation.

Finally, it must be jointly certified by the authoritative institutions of the United States FDA, European CE, Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare, China SFDA and other countries, and can only be widely used in clinical practice after approval.

Myopia laser surgery was also passed through these procedures as early as 1995 and is a safe and effective medical technology, with nearly one million myopia patients worldwide undergoing laser surgery every year. According to incomplete statistics, so far, about 40 million people around the world have undergone laser surgery for myopia, and the average satisfaction rate after surgery is 95.4%.

In the 09 Cornea World Literature Report, the quality of life and satisfaction of patients after LASIK in 20 years were reviewed and analyzed, aged 18~67 years, and the refractive power was –22.75~+7.00D. The article pointed out that the average satisfaction rate of patients after LASIK surgery was 95.4% (87.2%~100%) worldwide, 95.2% (91.4%~100%) in the United States, and 95.6% (87.2%~100%) in countries other than the United States. The study counted 1,581 articles around the world, and 16.3 million people who underwent surgery received good life visuals.

The results of a retrospective study of 26,743 patients (14,691 males, 29,889 females, aged 19~57 years, and an average of 27.2 years) who underwent myopia laser surgery in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 1993~2003 showed that the actual correction was within the range of ±1.00 D of expected correction, and the satisfaction with the quality of life reached 98.7%.

Finally, there is, of course, negative press about refractive technology.

More than ten years ago, due to the huge myopia population, it was decided that the demand for myopia surgery market was strong, when myopia surgery was just carried out in China, due to the lax supervision of relevant departments, individual medical institutions were driven by commercial interests, and almost did not refuse to come to myopia surgery patients, ignoring contraindications, and vigorously promoting expensive surgical methods, exaggerating the advantages of laser surgery, and avoiding possible problems.

In addition, in order to pursue greater profit margins, some institutions reduce the investment of surgical costs, use second-hand equipment, repeatedly use consumables, etc., which still endanger the safety of surgery from time to time, which directly leads to an increase in the probability of postoperative complications.

But I believe that after so many years of development in the country, medical enterprises have become more and more standardized, as long as you find a big hospital, you must receive the best and most formal surgery.

Of course, this chapter represents my personal opinion, and I would like to believe the data and the scientific feedback.

After all, it is really difficult to absolutely control the truth in anyone's hands.

No one understands everything, but when you ask someone who does, you worry that they will lie to you.
