Chapter 5 A true story

Previous Chapter

I'll tell you a true story about what happened to me, probably when I was eleven or twelve years old, but I've always remembered it.

I don't know if you have ever heard of such a saying, that is, if a person suddenly feels unwell, such as a high fever that does not go away, can't breathe, suddenly inexplicably depressed or behaves abnormally, then this person is likely to be a ghost, in my hometown dialect, it is a ghost.

If you have a ghost, you have to take a bowl, connect half a bowl of cold water, put a few grains of rice at the bottom of the bowl, hold the four chopsticks together on the bowl, think about the person who has similar symptoms to the person who was on the upper body before his death, and chant his (her) name in his or her mouth, and keep saying that if you are hungry there is rice, if you are thirsty there is water here, if the chopsticks stand, it means that this person is the person, if you don't stand, try someone else.

Once the chopsticks are standing, they have to take a knife, say something vicious in their mouths, and then cut down the chopsticks with a knife, and then send the bowl of water outside the house, even if it is sent away.

Strange to say, I don't know if it's a psychological effect or if it's about to get better, this method really cures many people's diseases, so most of the old people in the village are convinced of it. Grandma is a typical feudal superstition, who in the family is uncomfortable and does not know the reason, she will take this method to cure, I am a resolute atheist, I have received so many years of compulsory education, these feudal superstitions are scornful, and I will often tell grandma some scientific truths, but grandma just doesn't believe it, and then I thought of refuting her with practical actions.

The so-called practical action is to occasionally take a bowl after eating, get a few chopsticks to stand in the bowl, every time I can stand up the chopsticks without much effort, it can be said that I also have super balance ability, talent. I originally wanted to prove that there is a scientific basis for chopsticks to stand up, not some kind of ghost power, but my grandmother didn't approve of it, he always thought I was a strange woman, and I followed the strange woman of ghosts everywhere I went.

I remember once it was the thirtieth year of the Chinese New Year's Eve, my grandmother suddenly felt unwell, she thought that she must have recruited a ghost, I jokingly said that I would go to the ghost bar for you and took the bowl and chopsticks into the house, a set of equipment was ready, and the chopsticks just stood in the bowl filled with water. Grandma thought that since they were all standing, they would take a knife and cut it by the way, and I was also curious, so I really cut it decently. As soon as I splashed the water out of the house, my grandmother told me to go home, and not to talk to anyone on the way, so I obediently went home.

When I got home, I didn't have anything to do, and I watched a TV series for a long time at home freely, and I had a good night's sleep, and the first day of the new year came in a hurry.

The first day of the new year in the village is quite lively, everyone wears new clothes to go door to door relatives, New Year's greetings, I am no exception, but just after a while, I feel that the whole body is tired, the eyelids can not be opened, the head is also dizzy, I really can't hold on to go back to my grandmother's house to sleep, so I slept all day.

Everyone thought I was sick, but there was a saying in my hometown that I couldn't take medicine on the first day of the new year and couldn't see a doctor, so I had to be next to each other, grandma remembered yesterday's incident, and felt that I must have recruited the ghost of yesterday, so she surrounded me and scolded loudly, saying that if you want to eat well for the New Year, you can't toss the child, this is not the place you should stay and so on, the tone is vicious, and he scolded.

It didn't take long for me to get better. Since then, I have never played the game of standing chopsticks again.
