Chapter 11: Sam Pendragon 1
Sam arrived at the High Council early and stared out the window, which was not too good. The actions of the enemy, domestic problems will be put on the table for discussion. But it was just a formality, and everyone waited for the end of the meeting to push the issue to the next week. Only the question of Tours, which was of external importance, could attract King Azir's attention, but of late there were fewer and fewer things that caught his attention.
At the last council, a drunken Azier made it clear that he didn't trust Kerry Romeo, and Sam saw it as an opportunity. This has to be an opportunity, otherwise there is little chance to have a seat at the table in your country's decision-making.
Sam took a deep breath and the air poured from head to toe, hoping that preparation would make him more convincing in the subsequent meeting. But persuasion is secondary, the main thing is to see the mood of the king.
A sound of footsteps slowly approached from the end of the hallway, and Sam looked back to see Kerry walking into the council room.
Sam and Kerry looked at each other and felt his boredom with him, but he didn't care about the long-standing look.
"I didn't know that Lord Carey also had a habit of arriving early. Sam said.
"I didn't know that Mistress Sam also had a habit of using honorific titles. Carey said.
Sam smiled and said, "Please don't get used to it, I don't know when I'll get rid of this problem?"
Kerry also smiled, "I can see that Sam-sama is very happy today, I have known you for a while, so I feel uneasy that you are suddenly happy." β
"Mistress Kerry Romeo, if you know me. Sam whispered, "You should be feeling uneasy." β
"If you know me, Lord Sam, you'll know that I have nothing to worry about. Carey said.
The two stopped talking, and time passed slowly. Sam felt uncomfortable with him, wondering why he had to be there so early. Look at the things in the room, there are no fruits and desserts, not even the red wine that overflows in Buckingburg. Sam, who wanted to kill time, dispelled this thought and said to Carrey:
"I've heard rumors that Lord Carey has been frequenting brothels/brothels lately?"
Carey replied, "Yes, I went a few times, but nowhere near the standard I usually have." Mistress Sam knows that some people just like to gossip, but even if I visit brothels/brothels a lot, I shouldn't have touched any laws, right?"
"Oh, of course not. Sam said, "I'm just curious that Mr. Carry, as a member of the High Council, is so busy with politics every day that he would ruin the reputation of the Empire if he frequented that kind of place." β
"You're right, Sam. I should quit my bad habits, not for my own reputation, but for the sake of the Empire. Carey said.
Time continues to pass and silence continues to roar.
"Sam-sama. Carey said, "I've always wondered, what drives people like you to stay here?"
"Because people like you have to be watched. Sam said.
The standoff was broken by the sound of leather boots on the floor, and the councillors walked in one after another. Sam looked at the people in attendance, Padraic, James, Samuel, and even Martin Marcellus. Sam and Kerry nodded to each other and took their seats.
"Master Martin!" said James, "I have heard that you are seriously ill, and I hope you have returned to your usual health." β
Martin looked flattered and said, "It is an honour to be greeted by Lord James Ramsden, and I can tell you that everything is as you wish." The intractable disease has now left my body, and I don't seem to have the slightest talent for leading troops to fight, and finally hold the position of my body. β
James smiled and nodded in response.
Sam knew that Martin's eyeliner was everywhere, and asked with the mentality of giving it a try, "Lord Martin, the king has been in a very low mood these days. Even last week at the Parliament, the king ...... Some gaffes, do you know what's going on?"
"Ahh Martin nodded understandingly, and said, "I did hear about the king's inexplicable ...... these days Sentiment. When my condition improved a little, I always wanted to visit the king and let my worries go. But the king did not seem to be seeing his guests these days, and was resistant to many who wanted to help him, and was keen on good wine. In view of the meeting at which I was not present, it seems that the king is not so concerned with political affairs, and this distresses me. I'd love to ask about the King, but why doesn't Lord Sam ask me instead of King Padraic?"
Sam said to Martin with some disgust, "Maybe you know?"
"Maybe I know, maybe I don't," Martin said. β
Samuel asked Padraic, "Your Highness, do you know about the state of the king?"
"No, I don't know. Padraic said, "My father has always been reluctant to say anything, and even his self-talk to the bottle is anagram and whisper. β
"The king will be fine. Carey said.
At this time, Sam heard someone approaching the council room, and he was probably the only absent King Azil.
Azir pushed open the door of the room, looked at the people present, and said, "I see that everyone is here, so don't waste time, let's get started." β
This time the king was not drunk, but came to the council in good spirits. Sam began to believe what Carey said, and the king really seemed to be fine.
"Your Majesty. Samuel, who is the Chancellor, said: "You might laugh when you say it, but there was a coup d'Γ©tat in the small village of Tree Bottom in the west about two weeks ago. Imperial Commissioner Otis Walker was killed in the line of duty, and several members of the Imperial Guard were killed and wounded. β
"What's going on?" Azir asked, "an armed coup d'Γ©tat by the Tours forces?"
Samuel flipped through the documents and said, "The report says that it was Otis who had been in contact with the underworld, or caused a catastrophe because of the issue of spoils. Now that the former village self-government council has taken over the situation and the Imperial Guard has been disbanded, the document was submitted under the title of a coup d'Γ©tat. But essentially, we can once again send a new Imperial Guard to take control. β
"This level of chaos is a manifestation, not an incident. James said: "If Commissioner Otis is dismissed because of the underworld problem, the next new Imperial Commissioner is also likely to use the power at hand to seek benefits from the underworld." β
"So what?" said Azil, "how are we going to solve this?"
"I beg your pardon, Your Majesty. Carey said: "This is entirely the result of the local officials' willingness to engage with the underworld, on the one hand, this Odis does not have the honor and sense of mission as an imperial commissioner, and on the other hand, it also reflects the problem of excessive power of local officials." β
Carey Romeo's remarks are all aimed at diverting the spearhead from the underworld, and it doesn't take his mind to know his purpose.
