Lin Gengbai (1896-1941) was a famous poet and politician in the Republic of China. Legend has it that he could write essays at the age of 4 and poetry at the age of 7, and was regarded as a "prodigy". At the age of 13, he was admitted to the highest university at the time, the Kyoshi University, with the first place. In 1910, he was introduced by Wang Jingwei to join the League, and at the age of 14, he was the youngest member of the League. After the Wuchang Uprising in 1911, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives and a secretary of the Extraordinary Congress. At the age of 17, he became a member of the National Assembly and concurrently served as the secretary general of the Constitution Drafting Committee, and at the same time he was also a professor of Russian language, the youngest member of parliament and a university professor in Chinese history.
Since then, he has risen and fallen in the political arena, but he has always enjoyed a high reputation in the literary world, and is one of the most famous poets of the old style at that time. He even compared himself to Du Fu, and once said: "Ten years ago, Zheng Xiaoxu was the first today, and the rest was second. If in recent years, it is still about the poetry of the present and the ancient, when the Yu is the first, Du Fu is the second, and filial piety is insignificant! Although his words are arrogant, they also reflect his status in the literary world.
He was not only a talented poet, but he was also proficient and believed in the science of numerology, often telling fortunes for others. Because of his extraordinary accuracy in fortune-telling, many dignitaries of the Republic of China at that time went to him for fortune-telling. It is said that he once predicted that Xu Zhimo would die, and later Xu Zhimo did die in a plane crash. At the same time, Lin Gengbai also told his fortune many times, and the result was the same: there was one good fortune and one bad luck in his fate. Ji means that he can marry a wife who is both talented and beautiful. Sure enough, he finally married Lin Beili, a talented poetess who was 20 years younger than him. Lin Beili is the cousin of Lin Huiyin, a talented woman in the Republic of China, who is proficient in piano, chess, poetry and painting, especially in the old style of poetry, of course, it is good luck to be able to marry such a wife. Fierce refers to his short life, not living more than 50 years old.
After knowing his numerology, Lin Gengbai lived in fear all day long. In 1937, Nanjing fell, and Lin Gengbai moved to Wuhan and Chongqing with his wife. After each Japanese bombing, he had to recalculate his eight characters, hoping to find a way to crack it.
Although Lin is good at fortune telling, he does not know physiognomy. During his stay in Chongqing, Lin Gengbai met Tao Banmei, a famous physiognomy artist, and Lin Gengbai asked him to look at his face. After Tao Banmei saw it, she also thought that he would die and persuaded him to take refuge in the countryside. Afterwards, Lin Gengbai combined Tao Banmei's views and found a glimmer of "vitality" from his eight characters: if he could go to the south where there was no war, he might be able to escape.
So, Lin Gengbai decided to take refuge in Hong Kong under British rule. However, Lin Gengbai arrived in Hong Kong on December 1, 1941, and a week later the Pacific War broke out, and Japan subsequently invaded Hong Kong.
At that time, although Lin Gengbai advocated anti-Japanese resistance, he was only a legislator, which was not enough to cause death. However, at the critical moment, the intelligence of the Japanese army was wrong, and Lin Geng's identity as a legislator was mistaken for a member of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang, so he was searched and arrested.
On the afternoon of December 19, Lin Gengbai went out to buy food, was found by the nearby Japanese military police, and ordered him to stop for examination, Lin Gengbai was afraid in his heart, but turned around and walked away in the direction of his residence, the Japanese army immediately opened fire, the bullet hit the heart from behind, Lin Gengbai died on the spot, only 45 years old.
It is not so much that Lin Gengbai's fortune-telling is accurate, but that he died because of fortune-telling. But in any case, this account should be counted on the heads of the Japanese invaders.
