Chapter 12: Edith Taylor

Edith was brought to trial, the anti-magic handcuffs that had been on her wrists for a week and had worn out her skin by now. The trial www.biquge.info Pen & Fun & Pavilion has not been postponed, and it seems that everything is going according to plan, and Emperor Michael Perial should personally decide. Until she saw the ritual magic being prepared outside Termi's Golden Sands Palace, she thought that her complicated situation would drag on for at least another month.

Edith sat in the prison cart, her eyes fixed on the ritual magic. It appears to be a ritual that can only be started by eight mages, with eight gaps left for mages in the crooked pattern, the same specifications as the Rite of Damnation. After blood magic and demon-summoning magic were all but extinct, the Rite of Damnation was never used. Because it can destroy a person's soul and completely disintegrate an individual's physical and spiritual existence, it is considered an extremely inhuman taboo.

She was a little worried, the court seemed determined to punish her, and the guillotine was ready. I can't be sure of this at this point, but the scene was just a flash in Edith's eyes, and before she could take a closer look at the pattern of the magic engraving, she was asked to get out of the car and take her into the Golden Sands Palace. As rumors have it, the Golden Walls Palace is all golden, and uninformed people even say that it is made of gold, and one of the great jobs of the city palace guards after that is to drive away the ruffians who scrape the skin of the walls outside the palace at night. Although Telmi is indeed rich in gold, even the mud of the river can be extracted from the golden sand. But using gold to build a royal palace is still too luxurious.

Finally, she made it to the throne room of the palace. The soldiers escorting her did not have much of a handover conversation and quickly took her to court.

As the door opened, Edith saw the courtroom in its entirety. Hundreds of nobles watched her quietly from the seats, Margaret and Lucas sat in the front row, and Emperor Michael was on the throne. Edith recognized him at a glance as the torturer who had interrogated her the other day, and her face showed a look of joy.

Emperor Michael's uncle, Jon Wilder, sat to his left, seemingly one of the judges. On the right is an older non-aristocratic maester, apparently an advisor who has come to offer experience and advice.

"The defendant, Edith Taylor, is suspected of studying blood magic, demon summoning, and elven magic, all of which are considered crimes under the Empire's sacred laws. Jon Wilder said, "Is there anything to defend in the hall?"

Michael also said, "Do you deny that the guards found books about those forbidden magic from your lab?"

"No, Your Majesty. I don't deny it. Edith said.

The aristocrats on the jury were noisy, apparently all believing her guilty.

"Execute the blood mages and burn the demon worship. "That was the fashion of nearly three centuries ago, and we know the unhappy end of the year of purification," Michael said. The Tur Empire is now a country free and governed by the rule of law, and the tragedies of the past will not be repeated. Can anyone point out the crimes of Mage Edith?"

"Your Majesty thinks twice. "The old man's name was Van Matthew, and he had always provided intellectual advice to the Emperor. "Blood mages must be punished severely, this is not old-fashioned and stubborn. Blood mages have always been deadly fanatics, and they are ambitious because of their seemingly great power. Fortunately, they were so conceited that they couldn't let them succeed. ”

"You're saying that a skill and a piece of learning can change a person?" asked Michael.

"Absolutely!" Fan continued, "The mage uses his talents to use arcane powers, turning them into amazing magic through his own will. So the usual magic is a predictable, controllable tool, derived from the wise spirit of the mage. But the bloody rituals of blood magic, and the use of gibberish arcane powers, have made it completely beyond the boundaries of magic. It was full of hatred and resentment, and the mage who learned it went from using his will to unleash magic to changing his will to suit it. This mistake of putting the cart before the horse has made many blood mages nervous. Wisdom is slowly draining from their minds, and only their own ambitions remain!"

After saying that, Van looked at Edith, expecting her outburst to prove her point. Edith, on the other hand, did not react at all, and did not seem to listen to his chatter the whole time. This made Fan feel deeply humiliated, and said angrily: "You see! The arrogance of this evil man, even in front of the emperor, does not have the slightest awe, this is the effect of evil magic on people!"

Listening, Edith apologized and said, "I'm sorry, my lord. If you feel that I have disrespected you, I sincerely apologize to you. At the same time, you should also know that if you want people to respect you, you must first be respectable. ”

Fan's eyes widened, and he said, "I have been studying the classics all my life, and my knowledge in this city is unmatched!"

"You see!" said Edith, turning to the jury, "This is the arrogance of this wicked man!"

A smile appeared on Michael's face, how many times he had hoped that these ministers who had revolved around him would go crazy, and now it was his wish.

"That's enough!" Jon Wilder could no longer look at the humiliation of the minister, and said, "Miss Edith, we all know your point of view, but do you really expect the people of the whole territory of Tours to let a blood mage go unpunished? Maybe you're a mage with a lot of knowledge, or maybe you're a mastermind. Given the consequences of our ruling, I am bound to choose the safest approach. ”

It sounds like the Wilders don't want her to poke out the basket, so the balance in the courtroom is almost irretrievable.

Edith didn't care much about the guillotine waiting in front of her, as if everything had been played out all over again, and that scene was a happy ending.

"Lord Jon!" said Edith, "I don't have any evidence that you are a loyal lord of the country, so does that make you suspect of treason, does it?"

As soon as these words came out, the jury was in an uproar, and all of them accused the female mage of irresponsible slander. Some even said that she should be executed on the basis of this sentence alone.

Seeing that the scene was about to lose control, Michael stood up and prepared to speak. Although everyone knew that he was just a puppet with no real power, the nominal justification made them quiet. Michael smiled a little with relief, and turned his gaze to Edith and said, "According to the laws of the Empire!" Edith Taylor should be sentenced to death for learning evil magic. ”

Some of the nobles on the jury had already praised the emperor's wisdom with their eyes.

"But!" said Michael, his words tinged with a playful hint of mystery that made one want to listen to it in his voice alone. "The laws of the old empire were oppressive and dark laws, and it existed to protect the magnates of the day," he said. It is full of loopholes and negligence, and it carries only the naked oppression of the royal family back then. It outlawed the domains of the nobility and limited the autonomy of the cities! Now that the freedom-loving Tours have abandoned many of the old rules, the laws of the old empire have long since proved to be the truth of the whole world. Everything now should be redefined in terms of freedom. Freedom in every way, not just in the room. It's the freedom of the other oppressed in the old empire's ignorant laws and other rules, the heavily taxed merchants, the hungry peasants, the homosexuals who fear heavy punishments, the cautious atheists! When they learn something that is not the mainstream, they are accused of being demons. Today, we free Tours need to face up to this kind of people. The reason why I say these things to you is because you are the foundation builders of this freedom! You are the spokesmen of the freedom of Tours! The blueprint of freedom of Tours is the ideal of all of you here. You can imagine the time not long ago, when you were oppressed by the old empire and barely survived. And Miss Edith in the hall was feeling the same as everyone at that time. That's why I say these things to you......"

When Michael's words were finished, the discussion became more and more discussable.

"Your Majesty......" Van Matthew tried to persuade Michael, but was stopped by him.

Michael shouted to everyone: "Now the court is adjourned for 30 minutes. ”
