Chapter 5: Demon Town 2
As Klinos approached the town of Gerdo, he could see the farmers busy in the fields. The inhabitants of the www.biquge.info Pavilion turned a blind eye to the desolate thorn bushes outside the town, the empty death zone. The air in the town smells of the earthy and foliage characteristic of the countryside, and the stony ground is dazzling in the sun.
The people of the town are busy, just like any other human city. Sometimes people talk about things out there, but not about the good aspects. Outside that wilderness was chaotic, pathetic, and anyone would want to flee to their own town. Surrounded by townsfolk who saw Klinos coming from the path outside the town, they were thinking about the troubles caused by outsiders.
Clinois walks the streets of the town of Gerdo and examines everything here.
"Sir, wait a minute, sir!" Clinos called out to a passer-by, "Are you a local?"
"Of course I am, could it be that you are an outsider?" the uncle looked at Clinos as if he had seen a rare species.
"I received a request for help to indicate where a horrific tragedy had taken place, and I was convinced that it had come from here. Klinos said.
When the uncle heard this, his face began to be unhappy: "Are you saying that there is something in our Geldo Town, and if we can't solve it by ourselves, we have to find you as an outsider? Everyone is stable and happy here, and nothing has ever happened." Your call for help must be a boring prank, or you're in the wrong place!"
Clinos was completely unaware of the situation, and the townsfolk had never been outside, and had no interest in coming out. Because the town of Gerdo is too perfect, too peaceful. Compared to the prosperity of the Canta religion, the people here seem to simply believe that there is no better place than their own town.
"Have you never been outside?" asked Clinos.
"Why go outside, is there something wrong with the town of Gerdo? There is only war, only suffering. Although it is not well known here, we have also heard about the war in Ranter. Belch...... Troublesome wars, and the doom of the people of the empire. This is the ultimate paradise, and I will not leave here to go to any battlefield, graveyard, garbage dump. The uncle said disdainfully, as if he had never heard of good news from the outside world.
The uncle doesn't look like he's been drugged with ecstasy, and the examples he gives are well-founded. But no one in the whole town wanted to leave, it always felt that something wasn't quite right.
"You're so right, I also feel that the town of Gerdo is a paradise. It's a well-organized place, people live and work in peace, and you can grow up here without knowing how God cares for you. Clinos chimed in: "It's just that the war outside the town is over, and the empire is slowly learning and healing from the wounds." The trade routes of Tours became more and more extensive, and people explored and carved out roads that no one touched. Although the town is still suffering from the wounds of war, the world is slowly moving towards peace. Don't you think now is a good time to go out and see what you want?"
"If they fight once, there will be a second and a third. Your argument is just strong words, does it mean that when the lion is full, it does not bite?" the uncle retorted.
"It is true that peace is hardly guaranteed to last. But there are many unexpected things in the world besides suffering, and if you see it, you will agree with me. They are so magnificent that people can't help but chase them. Tell me, have you ever seen a giant eagle on the top of the Oulder Peak, or a noble and swift griffon on the edge of the pass? Legend has it that the water on the beach is so clear that you can see the sand up to a hundred meters down, and at night if you are lucky, the blue water will glow with a little fluorescence. Not to mention the fact that elven ships pass through the western coast, and those boats are so small that a single wave can push them into the sea, but the elves still use them to cross the entire pearl sea. Have you ever seen the Rant steppes not far to the east, where herders domesticate horses, cattle, sheep and mastiffs. There is nothing on the horizon, and when it rains, you can see the rain slowly falling from afar. To the north, Kanta is so large that only the Silverwater River can pass through it, and the vast expanse of the river is filled with trading ships, and poets and artists will sing about the history of the land for you. Clinos's words were magical, like a gentle spring breeze blowing through a bitter winter day. The scenes reflected in front of the listener's eyes are magnificent and shocking, and few people are unmoved when they see them.
Passers-by can't help but yearn for the things of the outside world, and feel that staying here all their lives will greet them in the end with the peace of death. A smile spread across the uncle's face, something that was rare for Clinos to come here. This is a vision for the future, and this is the joy of dying in comfort without having to stay in Gerdo. Yes, the world may not be perfect, but beautiful things are waiting for you to tread. The world may not be perfect, but you can change it.
The uncle didn't speak, because there were too many ideas churning in his head. Thoughts are like opening the floodgates of a dam to release water, and things that were never thought of before are now possible. Isn't it war, isn't it society? If you can take a step out of this town, these difficulties will be resolved on their own.
Clinos saw that the people of the town were not stubborn stones, but why did no one ever think of leaving?
Just as he was thinking, Klinos noticed that something was approaching. In Klinos's opinion, a storm was sent from the center of the town, mixed with sand and stones. It was the evil force he had encountered in the wilderness, and now it was flying towards him violently. The power of evil here is unknown how many times it has multiplied compared to before, causing this vision to appear in Clinos.
"The glory of the Almighty protect me!" Clinos almost uttered the incantation, erecting a defensive barrier around it, a solid wall of magic distorting the light that passed through it. Neither magic nor swords can pass through the enchantment. But the evil that swept through was not affected in the slightest, not even showing signs of abating.
Once again, this sense of depression gripped Clinos, and helplessness and fear took over all of his heart. The Ao Neng was quickly stripped from his body, and the enchantment soon became no longer maintainable. It's not a big deal, because enchantments can't do anything to this force at all.
This...... Strength...... Stopped?
"What am I thinking, I have a job here, I have a family, how can I leave for the sake of impulse. What would the people in the town say when this word spread? This man is like a child, just because he wants to see the sea and the giant eagle, he says go and leaves!" The uncle's expression returned to depression and depression, and he turned around and left. I guess he will tell others bad things about outsiders.
What's wrong with this town?
