Chapter 4: The Bookworm's Gathering (3)
Early the next morning, Chen Ying came to the library and lent out the three books as Qin Hong said. She read Montesquieu's book word for word in the early morning sun, and she was so enchanted by this good book that she forgot to go to the water cooler to get water. She used her precious rest time to read with relish, not noticing that Liang Jing had been sitting across from her for a long time.
"This book is so interesting, isn't it?" Liang Jing tapped the spine of the book, and Chen Ying raised her head.
"Huh? When did you come over? Chen Ying moved away from the "Advanced Mathematics" in front of Liang Jing to help occupy the position.
"Since I've texted you, I'll definitely come - I'm very trustworthy." Liang Jing said proudly. Together, they packed up their belongings and walked down the marbled staircase to the nearby cafeteria. At noon, the cafeteria was crowded. They walked to their favorite windows to line up, and then came together to a small table with no one in their hands.
"You seem to have had a situation lately." Liang Jing carefully pulled the fish in front of her with chopsticks, picking out the almost transparent fish bones one by one.
"It's still the same - nothing." Chen Ying stirred the porridge in front of her with a spoon, and the golden millet all rotated clockwise.
"Then the ...... yesterday" Liang Jing deliberately only said half of it.
"Impossible."
"Why?"
"He's in his senior year and he's graduating next year β out of this campus, and maybe out of the city. A lot of couples break up when they graduate, not to mention that we've just met β and I don't want to trip him. β
"'Twilight Love' is really not reliable. However, what do you think of others? β
"It's okay. Good looking, very diligent, we also took care of a stray cat together last night. β
"Then he's quite loving. Chen Ying, you can really consider him. β
"Love does matter. However, at the beginning of love, I was willing to think things through more carefully. I don't want to play with feelings, I don't want to play with life, I want my love to have a beginning and an end. I want to meet someone who is not very handsome, who has no money, who is just ordinary - who can understand my efforts, who understands my efforts, who will not give up no matter what happens. I am also willing to work hard with him and go through the ups and downs of life. When we are older, we can still hold hands and return to the place where we met, and sigh together about the vicissitudes of life. β
"Do you think this Qin Hong is not such a person?"
"I don't know β I've known him for less than a month, after all. And I barely knew him, we only met a few times by chance. β
"Why don't you give him a chance to give it a try?"
"Do you remember that roommate of mine, Sun Wei? Her last boyfriend was the senior brother who graduated this year, and they got better all year - they once went to the Forbidden City to fly kites together during the Dragon Boat Festival - I envied her at that time. But then the boy went to another city on his own - and forgot about her completely. β
"People are different, Chen Ying. You can't say that just because a guy treats his girlfriend like this, all guys are unreliable-"
"You're right, every girl has her own strengths."
"So, you can take this opportunity to test him and see if he is willing to make changes for you - if he does, won't you find the person you want? Chen Ying, you can't always blindly seek stability in everything, you should give him - but also give yourself a chance. β
"What do you mean......"
"If he confesses again, at least don't refuse it outright - from what I know about you, you must have rejected him once during this time."
"Yes."
"Don't always be too pessimistic, there are also campus lovers who eventually become married. One of our brothers went to the United States after graduating the year before last, and brought his girlfriend with him last year - they had a wedding there last month, and the photos were sent to us by email, and both of them were very happy. β
"Really?"
"Don't miss it if you come across it. Two people can meet in the vast sea of people, which is a kind of fate in itself. β
After lunch, Chen Ying picked up her heavy schoolbag and rode an ordinary women's bicycle to attend an off-campus English training class in the sunshine. This is a training institution for college students to prepare for various foreign exams, Chen Ying's school has a very strong atmosphere of studying abroad, although she is only in her sophomore year, she can't help but be infected by this atmosphere and join the army of learning English. She chose the training branch closest to the school and attended classes once a week for a full semester. Even though this was the closest school site, she had to ride along the North Fourth Ring Road for 45 minutes at a time, and by the time she arrived, she was sweaty and out of breath.
The same was true on this day, with no one to walk with her. The two roommates took advantage of the good weather and went up the mountain with other classmates. She pressed the pedal hard against the midday sun, looked at her watch while riding, and stopped at every intersection as a break. Then, the traffic light changed, and she set out on the journey again. The wind blew her long, uncombed hair back and flew up, and the smell of sweet orange shampoo came out. She casually tugged back her hair, straightening out the wrinkled front. The wheels slowly turned, carrying Chen Ying and her young dreams to their destination.
The training institution is just a simple two-story building, the surface of the building is only painted with simple white plaster, and a green sign stands at the door, reminding students not to go to the wrong classroom. The old man in the communication room, wearing dark blue overalls with washed out raw edges, and wearing plastic-framed reading glasses, looked at each student, helped them sign in, and carefully asked them if they had eaten. In his communication room, there is a dilapidated desk with an enamel pole printed with a red star, and an old-fashioned radio next to him is commenting in a hoarse voice. On a wooden chair next to it lay a flattened cushion. On the window shelf were neatly stacked four dozen newspapers. On the wall outside the window are posters with information about the various activities of the training institution.
"Hello." Chen Ying said and handed over the attendance card, and the old man squinted his eyes and leaned over and looked at it carefully.
"Uh-huhβin classroom 401. It's nice that I haven't missed work. As he spoke, he found a small square seal, dipped it in ink, and covered it with great force.
"I don't think the door is open yet." A girl with a shoulder bag next to her walked over and said.
"Really?" The old man poked his head out and glanced into the corridor, and quickly turned the key through his coat pocket. He limped toward the classroom, his keys clanging. Chen Ying walked into the familiar classroom, felt the switch on the wall, turned on the light, and saw an advertisement for the student's essay contest posted on the door.
"You're from that university over there, right?" The old man asked, "Every time I see you coming from that side." β
"yes." Chen Ying is still studying the poster intently. Her serious appearance attracted the old man's attention. The girl was in the classroom just now, and she was lying on her seat playing with her phone.
"This is an essay contest with a prize money. If you can get into that university, your brain will definitely be good. If you go back and write, you might be able to become an editor. The old man said with a smile.
Chen Ying smiled and nodded, scribbling down the email address of the receiving essay on the notepad.
Students poured into the classroom one after another, looking for their place like bees returning from collecting honey, and the aisles were lively, and acquaintances greeted each other and passed on teaching materials. Immediately afterwards, the bald teacher also came in with a black leather bag. He picked up the microphone and tried it out. The classroom fell silent, and after a while, only the sound of lectures coming from the loudspeakers could be heard. Chen Ying quickly took notes, not even bothering to drink a sip of water. Gradually, the sky darkened, and bright Venus rose over the horizon. Chen Ying picked up her schoolbag and hurried to the School of Economics, where a class of students was waiting for her to explain calculus exercises.
