Chapter 14 After the Conference (2)
In the afternoon, with the end of the vote on the draft resolution, the whole event officially came to an end. Delegates from all continents also gathered around the venue to take group photos, many students exchanged contact information with each other, and many more stayed in the delegates' seats and refused to leave. Chen Ying, the only student from the School of Economics, said hello to two sociology students who had come to the meeting, dragging her tired body down the stairs. She shrunk into her coat as best she could, and walked through the windy campus towards the dormitory building. It's a particularly cold winter, and the lake on campus is covered with a thick layer of ice, and a few bold students are slipping around on it.
Chen Ying's tense nerves that had been tense when she returned to the dormitory instantly relaxed, as if she had been crushed by her will, all the defenses collapsed, and the whole person was so tired that it was difficult to even take an extra step. Over the past week, she has persevered with waking up early to attend meetings and staying up late at night to write reports, and she even thinks she can continue like this forever. However, from the moment she lay on the bed in the dormitory, she instantly fell asleep. The accumulated exhaustion was released with every breath, and she didn't realize how long she had been asleep until her phone rang next to her pillow.
"Who?" She flipped through her phone and picked it up with sleepy eyes.
"It's me, Wang Yi. I'm waiting for you downstairs. β
"How so?"
"Asleep, right? I said I would go to dinner together this morning and forgot? β
"I didn't forget." Chen Ying rubbed her eyes, picked up the glasses on the table, carefully wiped them and put them on. Outside the window, it had darkened at some point, and the chilly haze filled the sky again.
"I'll pack up and go down right now." Chen Ying got up and sorted out her clothes. After a while, she walked out of the dormitory building and saw Wang Yi standing under the bicycle shed where Qin Hong usually waited for her. He wears a thick gray trench coat with his neck tucked into a raised collar, dark blue jeans underneath, and brown touring shoes on his feet. Seeing her come out, he nodded and walked over.
"Why do you wear so little?" Wang Yi said and picked up the corner of Chen Ying's scarf and wanted to help her wrap it up.
"It's okay, it's not cold." Chen Ying said and took back the scarf, "Where are you going?" β
"A nice buffet three or four kilometers away from the school. Everyone else is gone. I'm afraid that you don't know the way, so I came to pick you up. β
"How are we going to get there?"
"Take the bus or take a taxi, it's up to you."
"It's better to take the bus."
"Okay."
Perhaps it was already the rush hour at this time, and they didn't have to wait long at the station before two cars came. They chose the one with fewer people to go up and sat side by side in the back seats near the card reader. Chen Ying looked at the cars coming and going outside the window and the passers-by in a hurry, and remembered that Qin Hong sat side by side with her in the same position on the bus every weekend, sending her to be a tutor or picking her up to school. In the same way, he swiped the screen of his phone with one hand, and after a while, he showed her funny pictures or videos. She hasn't received a message from him for a day, maybe he's still busy with his sister's wedding, maybe he's accompanying his parents to buy groceries, cooking, and cooking, maybe he's reuniting with classmates who haven't seen her in middle school and elementary school for many years......
"It's coming soon." Wang Yi said and picked up the bus card and pasted it on the card reader. The machine immediately made a dripping sound.
They got out of the car and walked down a narrow sidewalk under the overpass to a row of shops. This is a commercial and residential community, and the bottom two floors of each house are shops. These shops are much busier than the restaurants around the school, and many of the people who come and go work in nearby office buildings. Wang Yi took Chen Ying past the first restaurants he encountered, made a small detour, and turned into a small road. There is only one hot pot restaurant on this path. Wang Yi strode to the door and lifted the curtain to let Chen Ying in.
The shop was steaming. Chen Ying waited for the fog on her glasses to dissipate before she had a chance to take a closer look at her surroundings. It's a hotpot restaurant with a grand decoration, with brass boilers for one or more people on each small table, a fountain in the middle of the hall filled with fresh ingredients for shabu-shabu, and waiters in black overalls running upstairs and downstairs with trays, constantly serving new food or cleaning up plates. Wang Yi said to the waiter at the door, and then walked upstairs with Chen Ying.
Probably Wang Yi contacted in advance, and as soon as Chen Ying arrived on the second floor, he saw several familiar classmates walking towards them.
"You're finally here, and you're hungry to revolt." A boy walked over and patted Wang Yi on the shoulder.
"There was a traffic jam on the road and I was delayed for a while." Wang Yi said casually.
As they spoke, they came to a window seat. It was full of people, and the hot water in the copper stove in front of many people was sizzling, and when they saw them coming, they couldn't wait to push the plates of ingredients that had been placed on the table into the boiling water.
"Let's wait for me to say a few words before eating!" The boy who came with them stood up with a mug full of beer and said, "I'm very glad that you can come to this party today β especially since many of my classmates are not from the School of International Relations, and I am really touched to be able to come and have a good time." "Although we were drawn from African countries, I think we are probably the most united delegation from all continents, and we have always insisted on democratic voting on any issue, and we have responded positively, contributed to the problems, excelled in free debates, and even won the support of representatives from other regions β for which I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude." Although this Model United Nations conference is over, I hope that our friendship will continue forever, and there will be a date in the future. β
After he finished speaking, he drank the wine in the cup in one go, and the mouth of the glass turned down to show everyone his sincerity. Applause and whistles rang out in the hall, provoking the people in the seats next to them to look at them.
"The style of teachers and students in the School of International Relations is quite consistent." Chen Ying took a plate of mutton rolls handed over by Wang Yi and said.
"He is a protΓ©gΓ© of the dean and the president of the Buddhist Association. Last year, I went to Tibet with their Buddhist Society. β
"Tibet?"
"yes. It is particularly quiet and natural, which is completely different from the atmosphere here. Wherever you sit, it's a landscape β snow-capped mountains in the distance, winding roads and endless highland meadows in the distance. Wang Yi admired, as if those scenery appeared in front of him again, "Because I went to it during the summer vacation, I couldn't go to Nyingchi." Not seeing the legendary peach blossom sea is probably my biggest regret. However, we went to the Potala Palace, the Brahmaputra Grand Canyon and Namtso. I especially like Namtso β there are a lot of lakes in Tibet, and the word "wrong" means lake β the highest lakes are lined with white stones, and dzi with white patterns can be fished out from the shallow part of the water. Have you seen it? β
"I've only seen pictures on the Internet, with a black background and white geometric patterns on it."
"That's it. I didn't believe that dzi was naturally generated at first, until I picked one up from the lake. He picked up his phone and shook it at her, and there was a dzi hanging from the end of the chain. He continued: "The people there believe that the acquaintance of people in this world is arranged by God, and that the encounter with all things is fate. So I found someone to pierce this bead and carried it with me, which is also a memento of that trip. β
"It's fascinating. When you say this, I want to turn around the prayer cylinders engraved with the six-character mantra, or raise the colorful wind horse flags at the corner of the steep stone wall. β
"It's a mysterious place indeed. On my way to the Potala Palace, I always saw some locals, kneeling on the ground and bowing down. At first I couldn't understand it, but after walking a long way, I could feel the pious state of mind of those who made the pilgrimage. They prayed to God with their actions, and their hearts were purified through prayer after prayer. Maybe I can't do that, maybe I don't understand some things, but I really admire them. In a sense, they are prophets. β
"I envy you for seeing these with my own eyes."
"Nor is it to be envied. Don't just stare at the past and miss the beauty of the present. Look, it's starting to snow again. β
Outside, the snowflakes fluttered one after another, and when a gust of wind blew, they scattered in all directions in an instant. It was probably the heaviest snow of the winter, and even from two rows of tables like theirs, you could see the snowflakes flying outside. Many people in the restaurant stood up and went to the window to take pictures. A few others rushed out of the door and plunged headlong into the snow, letting the snowflakes pile up on their hair and shoulders.
"It's snowy." Chen Ying said. She fished out the boiled lamb slices from the hot pot and dipped them in the prepared sesame paste.
"Winter is coming to an end, this is a farewell." Wang Yi poured a plate of coriander into the boiling pot.
"The way you speak reminds me of a person." Chen Ying said.
