Chapter 23: Flying to Europe (1)

The departure time is half past four on Wednesday afternoon. It was an ordinary working day, and Qin Hong promised Chen Ying that he would ask for leave to see her off. There were seven or eight students on this flight to Europe, and with the crowd of people seeing them off, it was quite spectacular from afar. Several of the students' parents even shed tears, causing the scene to be sad for a while. Ye Feng and Wang Yi helped check the luggage, and Liang Jing pulled Chen Ying to sit on the public rest seat next to him.

"Would you like to go over there for a bite to eat?" Ye Feng waved his boarding pass to the girls, pointed to a coffee shop in the distance and said, "It's not good to get on the plane hungry." ”

"I can go back and eat, just look at Chen Ying." Liang Jing glanced at Chen Ying.

"Okay, I'll invite you to lunch." Chen Ying stood up and carried her backpack. The bag contained a laptop and a few thick books that almost threw her off balance, and the bag strap tightened her shoulders deeply.

"Give me your bag." Wang Yi grabbed the schoolbag and carried it on his back.

The airport signal is not good, and the plane they are on has been notified twice to board. Qin Hong hasn't sent a message yet, and several other classmates are saying goodbye to their parents. Chen Ying stared at the leftover empty plate in front of her and the leftover pizza scraps inside, hesitating how long to wait. The other three have been connected to the intermittent WIFI and are looking at their phones.

"Attention passengers to Copenhagen: your flight AY087 will depart soon, and if you have not yet boarded your flight, please board from Gate 11 immediately. This is the last boarding announcement for flight AY087. Thank you. ”

There were only four of them left in the crowd that had just assembled. Chen Ying called Qin Hong, and the other three looked at her together.

"No, no one answered." After a busy sound, she put down her phone with a disappointed face, "Let's go to the plane." ”

"There's a security entrance ahead, and we can't go any further." Liang Jing touched Chen Ying's head, "Take care." When you get there, you will be safe. ”

"Bye, buddy." Wang Yi hammered Ye Feng's shoulder.

They had no luggage but two backpacks and quickly passed through security. Wang Yi carried two schoolbags on his back and beckoned to the other two through the glass door with Chen Ying.

"Let's go back." Wang Yi said.

"Thank you." Chen Ying said against the glass. She saw something shiny in Liang Jing's eyes and motioned for her to wipe it off.

"I didn't cry, really." Liang Jing wiped her eyes. Chen Ying also saw this situation when she graduated from high school, so she tried to comfort Liang Jing.

Just as they were about to turn around and leave, Chen Ying saw Qin Hong's figure swaying at the security entrance. He was wearing a suit, sweating profusely, and his silver-blue tie knot was crooked to the side.

"Chen Ying!" He shouted and rushed to the glass door, touching the glass with both hands, and the people next to him looked straight at them.

"Leaving?" He said through the glass, his eyes fixed on her.

She couldn't speak, she could only nod.

"Take care of yourself and get a letter over there." He touched her face reflected on the glass, tears flowed from the corners of his eyes, and he looked at her to himself, not paying attention to Liang Jing and Ye Feng who were standing on the side.

"Let's go, the plane will take off soon." Wang Yi's voice sounded behind him. They must be separated. Chen Ying's eyes turned red. She smiled at Qin Hong and waved goodbye.

In the confusion, Wang Yi took Chen Ying's hand and ran towards the boarding gate. She was wearing plastic sandals and almost slipped on the mirror-like marble floor. When they arrived, the attendants were about to close the gate.

"Sorry, just arrived." Wang Yi took out the boarding pass and stuffed it into the staff's hand.

"Now the little couple - the whole plane is waiting for the two of you." The staff scanned the QR code, looked at the boarding seat map on the screen and said, "Come in." ”

They ran across the covered bridge and rushed onto the plane, where a tall flight attendant quickly ushered them to their seats. Through the window, Chen Ying saw the lights on the runway moving rapidly backwards. The flight attendants began a safety demonstration at the front of the aisle. They fastened their seatbelts as required and sat down in a position waiting for liftoff. The engines hanging from the wings on both sides grew louder and louder, as if they were about to open the door to another world. Wang Yi also held Chen Ying's hand, tightly, and his fingers were interlocked.

The sliding stopped, and the runway ahead was displayed on a screen in the middle of the cabin, with a ground crew member waving a few signal flags and running to the side. With a massive jolt and a sinking body into the back of the seat, the plane quickly slashed across a row of houses before finally swooping into the sky. After the heart discomfort caused by the take-off disappeared, Chen Ying let out a long breath. The feeling of expansion in her ears was released with this breath, and she no longer felt like she was wearing earplugs.

"What do you two want to drink?" The stewardess who received them just now pushed the small push station in the aisle and asked.

"I want a hot cup of tea." Chen Ying said.

"Listen to a Coke for me." Wang Yi said.

Wang Yi took the drink handed over by the stewardess and put it on the small table in front of him. Then he used his free hand to put the teacup in front of Chen Ying. She noticed the current situation and tried to withdraw her hand, but he held it tightly. His palms were so large and powerful that she couldn't break free.

"Your hands." She whispered to him.

He poured himself half a glass of Coke, drank it with his head up, and then poured another half. The steaming tea in the cup was swaying slightly, with a faint ripple of water. She took a sip from her cup and looked up at him. He drank Coke quietly with one hand, and the other clenched between his fingers, and she began to hurt a little.

"Wang Yi." She couldn't help but scream, trying to wake him up.

He gradually let go of his hand, still not answering. She watched him get up and walk to the bathroom at the end of the hallway, pushing open the folded door and hiding inside. Several red fingerprints had been pressed on her hands, deep and shallow, and she was heating slightly. The air conditioning in the economy class was turned on, and the cold air blew down overhead. She gripped the rim of the teacup with both hands, looking out the window at the gray clouds and the drops of water flowing diagonally along the window. She pulled out the English-language magazine in the pouch behind the seat in front of her and flipped through it when an article about the costs and benefits of higher education caught her attention. She turned on the reading light in her seat and carefully studied the author's views and arguments.
