Chapter 17: Ordinary Days (3)
"Wang Yi didn't say anything, right?" Liang Jing waited for them to go a little farther and asked secretly.
"Nope. Just a casual chat. He said he was coming next semester as a teaching assistant for linear algebra. Chen Ying said as she walked two steps briskly to the yogurt freezer, grabbed a row and held it in her hand.
"How did he come up with the idea of being a teaching assistant?" Liang Jing muttered.
"Probably because you didn't come. I haven't looked at the list of teaching assistants yet, will Ye Feng still be a teaching assistant next semester? Chen Ying said.
"He said - to prepare for the English test, I don't think I have time to go." Liang Jing said vaguely.
"English test abroad after graduation? Isn't it a bit early to take the test? β
"It doesn't seem like that's the exam."
As they spoke, they came behind the two boys, and there were very few people in this group, just right in line with them.
"How do you count these things?" A cashier in a blue overalls held up an infrared scanner and asked them. It was a young girl in her early twenties, with dyed yellow hair and a row of pierced ears in her left ear. Ten fingertips were covered with blood-red nail covers, and a silver bracelet hung from his right wrist. She wore egg white eyeshadow and looked around with her eyes like beautiful contacts.
Ye Feng was putting the contents of the cart on the black conveyor belt in turn.
"We all checked out separately. These are mine, and those are his. Liang Jing separated the goods with a triangular wooden strip printed with a supermarket advertisement, looked behind her and said, "It's the same with both of them." β
"Okay." After the cashier finished speaking, he began to scan the code one by one, and the cash register kept making a ticking sound.
"You come first." Wang Yi said as he picked up an isolation stick and put it on the conveyor belt, helping Chen Ying put her belongings behind the isolation stick one by one, and after putting it away, he continued to stack his own.
"Seventy-six pieces and five." The cashier said to Chen Ying.
She hurriedly handed over her credit card.
"Please sign here." The cashier didn't look at the roll note that was thrown at her.
Chen Ying tried her best to smooth out the thermal paper and write her name neatly at the bottom. The cashier took it, glanced at it, added it with a small clip, and threw it next to the POS machine.
"This bag of yellow peaches is yours too?" The cashier pointed to the trolley and asked Wang Yi.
"It's mine." Chen Ying took it, "Can you brush it for me again?" β
"Why didn't you say it earlier?" The cashier grimaced and glanced at the growing checkout line behind him, "I'm brushing his stuff, or you can wait a while." β
"No, this one is mine." Wang Yi took the bag from Chen Ying's hand and put it on the conveyor belt, "Let's settle the bill together." β
"Y-you-got it up?" The cashier looked them back and forth.
"I've thought about it. How much does it cost? Wang Yi opened the wallet and asked.
"Plus this bag of peaches isβone hundred and five pieces two."
"It's one hundred and one." He put the money on the table. Chen Ying took out two dimes of coins from her pocket and placed them beside her.
"Find you five." The cashier handed him the money casually and said without looking up, "Next." β
The four of them went out of the supermarket together. Ye Feng walked in front of him and Liang Jing's bags, and Liang Jing followed him closely. Chen Ying and Wang Yi held their respective things.
"I didn't bring enough cash, I'll transfer it to you." Chen Ying whispered.
"No need." Wang Yi raised his head, and the sun shone right on his face, "A little thing." β
"I should still give it back to you." Chen Ying insisted.
"I know you don't want to take advantage of me. That's it-" He took the bag in Chen Ying's hand, opened the pouch containing the fruit, took out a peach from it and put it in his pocket, "I bought it, I didn't like to eat it, and I gave you the rest for free." β
"But ......," Chen Ying wanted to say something.
"That's it."
Chen Ying smiled and shook her head, but didn't say any more. They walked to the intersection and stood in front of the zebra crossing, waiting for the traffic light on the opposite side to change into a passable pattern. Liang Jing began to complain that the new shoes had worn out the leather on her heels, and that it hurt a little through her socks. Ye Feng put down the supermarket bag and carefully observed her feet that had taken off half of her socks.
"Put on your socks." After reading it, he said to Liang Jing, "I'll carry you back." β
"Huh?" Liang Jing's face turned red, and she looked at Chen Ying and Wang Yi standing next to her, "Isn't this okay?" β
"Your feet are already worn badly, and if you keep going like this, you will definitely bleed if you don't wait until school. I'll carry you back, and you go to the dormitory to change into a pair of shoes that fit, and don't wear these shoes yet. Ye Feng said carefully.
"But what about things when you carry me?" Liang Jing asked.
"I'll hold it for you." Chen Ying walked over and lifted the bag they had placed on the ground.
"This one is too heavy, so I'll do it." Wang Yi snatched the things in Chen Ying's hand.
"I'm so embarrassed. Thank you. Liang Jing said shyly.
Ye Feng picked up Liang Jing on his back and walked towards the school regardless of the side glances of passers-by. He walked for a while to rest, and Chen Ying and Wang Yi accompanied them to move forward slowly. Fortunately, the remaining road was not far, and they had walked through two intersections, and as soon as they turned the corner, they saw the narrow southwest gate.
"Victory is in sight." Wang Yi said.
Liang Jinglu didn't say a word again. She tried her best not to move and lay on Ye Feng's back. After entering the campus, I walked a few steps through the corridor to the front of Xiaoximen.
"Thank you for your hard work." Chen Ying took the bag in Wang Yi's hand, helped Liang Jing get off the back of the panting Ye Feng, and limped into the dormitory building with her.
"Remember to change your shoes." Wang Yi shouted at their backs.
"Definitely. Thank you. Chen Ying nodded at the two boys and slowly walked up the steps with Liang Jing.
