Chapter 69: Detection

The Halloween parade is huge, and people are dressed up in horror-themed costumes, such as the Evil Ghost Rider with a pumpkin head, the witch with a sharp hat, the Sadako with a cape, the zombie with the water hanging on her body, and the bandage-faced nurse in "Silent Hill".

There are even bad tastes or unconventional people, dressed up as Peppa Pig and SpongeBob SquarePants, who are covered in blood and so on, and walk through the parade, scaring those bear children into screaming and tears.

Leon pulled Christina to the temporary shop set up on the side of the road, looked at the dazzling makeup clothes placed inside, and asked casually, "Which one do you want to wear?" โ€

"Hmm...."Christina hesitated to pick up a black evening dress in the shape of a witch, squinted her eyes and said hesitantly, "This one looks good, it looks a lot like Angelina Jolie from "Sleeping Charm"...."

"Don't think about it, the placket of this dress is relatively open, you can't hold it up." Li Ang ruthlessly broke the truth, picked up a retro style red and green knitted sweater, and put it on her hand, "How about you put this suit on and make it up as Freddy in "Ghost Street"?" โ€

"Please, are you trying to kill me? It's the same dress my grandmother sent me every Christmas. โ€

Christina rolled her eyes, stretched out her slender fingers, poked the thick red and green striped sweater back and forth, and muttered, "And why does it have to be Freddy?" โ€

She reluctantly put on a sweater, an old tawny top hat, gloves with a thin sheet of clear plastic, and finally a tattered short leather coat, crossed her waist and turned around, and looked at Leon with her chin raised.

"Well, except for the severe burns on the face that haven't been burned by the fire, everything else is quite similar."

Leon nodded noncommittally and picked up a pair of hangers, "Then I'll be the demon hunter in the movie Van Helsing." โ€

"No way!" Christina snorted, took a long taupe trench coat and a deliberately distressed hockey mask from the container, and stuffed it into Leon's arms, "Since I'm going to be Freddy, then you're going to have to be Jason, the murderer from Friday the Thirteenth." โ€

"Well, you have the final say." Leon casually dressed up in Jason's costume and joined the parade next to the Halloween float with Christina after paying the money.

Luckily or unfortunately, the two of them didn't have time to see all the floats in different shapes before they ran into acquaintancesโ€”two chirping twins, to be exact, and Domingo, who was extremely unhappy with their tense faces behind them.

"Leon! Guess what we're pretending to be? โ€

Elizabeth, who spoke, wore a blue wig with a spike-like explosion on her head, a blue shirt underneath, and a white lab coat over her; Isabella, on the other hand, wore flaxen hair back and a yellow sweater.

"The cartoon Rick and Morty." Leon chuckled and looked at the twins' puffed up appearance, turned his head to look at Domingo in casual clothes, and asked, "Uh, Mr. Domingo, what are you pretending to be?" I don't see it. โ€

"Can't you see that? I'm playing an angry father. Domingo looked at Leon and Christina's palms with interlocked fingers with a secret expression, and said in a stiff tone, "I thought you weren't coming to the celebration." โ€

"Ha, I'm idle anyway...."Cristina sneered and pulled her palms behind her back, and hurriedly said, "I remember an entertainment company hired Marshmello (marshmallow) to be a DJ, he should be in the park in front, I'll see if I can get an autograph." He dragged Li Ang and fled in a panic.

The two trotted all the way to the theme park in the center of the city, and after smiling at each other, they did not participate in the carnival party held in the center of the park, but walked slowly along the gravel road by the river.

There are no stars in the sky, the half-moon hangs high on the branches, and there is a thin layer of clouds in the sky, so that the soft moonlight cannot shine.

The bustle of a party in the distance can be heard, and from time to time fireworks streak across the sky, and colorful light is reflected in the shape of an arc parabola in the middle of the dark lake.

Suddenly, Leon stopped beside the stone railing by the river.

Vigilant climbed up his spine, dormant in his mind, and he looked up to stare at the top floor of a tall building in the center of the city through the hole-like black void of his hockey mask, across a distance of thousands of meters.

It was the birthplace of a deep malice towards individuals, and a group of ill-intentioned people were gathering on that tall building at this very moment, plotting something.

The premonition of being spied on him told him that those people were searching for their location in some strange way, not a cumbersome and complicated divination, not some tarot ritual with magical powers, but a rougher, more crude primitive instinct.

Just as a fly senses its environment through the villi on its lips and tarsal joints, or a snake senses its prey through its breath and collects pheromones in the air at the tip of its tongue, it is an instinctive means of detection that comes with living beings.

Efficient, fast, straight to the roots.

"Mutant abilities?"

Leon muttered, holding his breath and concentrating, covering up the aura around him, like an ordinary grass and tree, avoiding the other party's search.

Christina let out a long breath, staring at the white air mass that spewed out slowly drifting away, and then looked at the reflection of the two people leaning together in the river,

Long

She bit her lip slightly, pushed the top hat on her head with a glove inlaid with a thin plastic sheet, got a little closer, and stood side by side with Leon, hesitating for a moment before opening her mouth carefully, "Leon, I want to ask you...."

"Not now." Leon interrupted her, shook his hand away, and turned back to Christina, who looked aggrieved, and said in a deep voice, "You go back to Domingo and them, I'm sorry I can't accompany you tonight." โ€

"Huh?" Christina was dazed, and she said a little overwhelmed, "Why? โ€

"I've got something to do on the spot." Li Ang shook the long trench coat he was wearing, straightened his hockey mask, and refocused his eyes on the building in the center of the city, "Very important thing. โ€

Despite the countless doubts in her heart, Christina wisely did not speak again, she stared at the quiet gaze of Li Ang under the mask, and finally chose to turn away silently, walking to the corner of the gravel road by the river, and her figure disappeared.

Leon looked at Christina's back out of the corner of his eye, and after making sure she was gone, he stepped forward and galloped towards the tall building in a ghostly manner.
