Chapter I: Psychiatric Hospitals
In 2002, the story began here, after I suffered from personality breakdown disorder, a mental illness in which my vision changed from three-dimensional to flat, for some reason, and then my parents were sent to this mental hospital deep in the mountains.
This hospital is strange, the patients and medical staff in it are called by code, my code is 1817, my attending doctor is called 017, and the beautiful little nurse who gave me the injection is called 084.
The treatment process in this hospital is very relaxed, it is not like a hospitalization, but like a recuperation. It's completely different from the mental hospital I imagined before, it's very free, and although there are a lot of patients, most of them just look stupid, and a few are very active, but you can't see the crazy people who suddenly go crazy in the movie.
I've been in the hospital for more than a month, my parents haven't seen me once, and I'm not worried because when I was admitted to the hospital, the doctor told me that all the medical expenses were covered by a low-key charitable fund.
In the past month, I have basically explored the environment up and down, this psychiatric hospital is built on the side of a mountain col, surrounded by forests, and the hospital is surrounded by walls and high-voltage power grids to prevent patients from sneaking out of the wall.
The center of the whole hospital is the inpatient building where I am located, which is an arc-shaped building, with a playground on the left, a football field, a basketball court and a badminton court, and an indoor sports hall on the side, but it is not big, you can play billiards and table tennis.
On the right there is a five-story building with a movie theater, karaoke hall, and a library on the top floor! It would be perfect to have another internet café!
The designers of this psychiatric hospital are truly great, keeping a large group of mentally ill people in the mountains, but not boring them at all.
If I were to design it, I would have been able to add an Internet café and a vegetable market.
I've met a few people I've talked to over the years, and if you look at them just on the surface, you can't tell that they are mentally ill.
The patient with the code name 1011 is an old man, according to the rules of the hospital, they have to call each other code names, but this I don't know which fool invented the rules to ignore it, we all call him Lao Li in private, a very funny person, very good at joking, if he doesn't sometimes secretly tell you mysteriously when you eat, the food we eat is made of dead people's flesh, you really can't tell that he has schizophrenia. He lived across the street from my hospital room, and soon after I arrived, he came to visit the house, talked to me for a long time, and joked that he would marry his granddaughter to me when I was out.
The patient with the code name 1123 is a middle-aged man, also surnamed Wu, I call him Lao Wu, and he calls me Xiao Wu. A very kind person, but unfortunately the stock speculation is crazy, it is said that the house mortgage is matched with capital to speculate in stocks, and he was deceived, and then his wife also left. As soon as he catches someone, he will keep telling that person about technical analysis, stories about how he used to fight with the dealer. Because I also speculated in stocks when I was in college, I didn't resent listening to him talk about stocks, and everyone else couldn't even hide when they saw him, so he was very fond of me when he saw me and regarded me as a confidant.
Codename 2141 is a college student, I call him Xiaobing, it seems that there is a problem because of a broken love, he is more serious than me, I just have something wrong with my eyes, he really has a problem with his brain, he said that the doctor diagnosed him with paranoid psychosis, because they are all young people, they have a common hobby of playing football, and often go to the stadium to play football with a group of patients who like to play football. He's playing very well, but if he thinks there's something wrong with you, you're done, and he'll keep pestering you and asking if you have any thoughts or opinions about him. No matter how you explain it and swear he won't believe it until the two of you are exhausted.
There are also some female patients in this hospital, and there are not many of them, so I don't dare and am not interested!
When I talk to them, I will talk about a topic from time to time, that is, the top floor of our hospital building, from the outside of the building, there should be a total of 15 floors, but the elevator is gone to the 13th floor, and you can't go up again when you go to the 13th floor. Where are the entrances and exits on the 14th and 15th floors, I talked to them several times because they are really mysterious.
I remember when I was first admitted to the hospital, the doctor who brought me in said that if the patient behaved aggressively, he would be put on the 15th floor for treatment, but in fact everyone was very peaceful in this hospital, and it has been more than a month since I came in, and I have never seen anyone go crazy and attack others.
Lao Li said that in fact, if he didn't get crazy, he would be imprisoned, and he had been imprisoned for no reason, but he stayed for a day and then returned to the bottom. I asked him what the situation was above, and he frowned and didn't want to tell me, so he was in a hurry, so he said that you can go and beat someone up to know the answer.
Sometimes in the dead of night, you can occasionally hear intermittent wailing, which is not strange, after all, this hospital is locked up with hundreds of mentally ill patients, and even the community of normal people can hear the sound of fighting and wailing from time to time.
After another month, my visual impairment is still the same, but the clarity is slightly better than when I first started the disease, I am a little anxious, I take these medicines every day, how can there be no effect at all, the butt injection stopped after a month, but the oral medicine has to be taken every day. I asked my attending doctor, 017, why he was getting better so slowly, and he always smiled and told me that your condition is normal, that psychiatric treatment is a protracted battle, and that it is impossible to heal in a month or two.
My parents haven't come to see me yet, but I'm as happy here as I am on vacation, sleeping, eating, hanging out and playing football every day, freer than when I was studying, and I don't think much about it.
Since I entered this hospital, probably because of the medication, I think of Xiao Wei's interval is getting longer and longer, and when I think about it, my emotions are not as strong as before, and I don't feel much pain, if I continue like this, sooner or later, I will really forget her, and by that time my illness should be cured.
This is thanks to that low-key philanthropic rich man! If there were more rich people like this in the world, I think the world would be a better place! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Had it not been for the upheaval that followed, I would never have doubted the harmony in front of me.
That morning, I had just returned to the hospital room after breakfast and found 017 standing by the window with his hands behind his back and looking out the window.
I saw him greet him, "Hello! ”
017 turned around and smiled at me, "Have you seen any better?"
I looked at him, and what I saw was still a flat picture.
"It's been the same lately! ”
"No, it was the first course of treatment before, and there is a second course to be done. ”
"Do you want to change the medicine?"
"The oral medication is still the same, but with the addition of an electroconvulsive treatment. ”
As soon as I heard the word "electroconvulsive", I immediately became nervous.
He saw the change in my expression and came over and patted me on the shoulder.
Then he smiled and said to me, "Don't worry, boy! The treatment is a little painful, but it's safe." Then he added, "If you want to get you well as soon as possible, you have to cooperate with our treatment." ”
Indeed, if I don't suffer a little, I won't be well in this sick monkey year.
I nodded, and then asked him, "When am I going to have electroconvulsive?"
"Go now, come with me!" he tapped me on the shoulder again, motioning for me to follow.
Fuck, go now, not mentally prepared at all!
I followed him down to the first floor and to the pharmacy window, where he knocked on the windowpane, and a busy pharmacist inside saw him coming, turned around and opened the pharmacy door.
I guess he might go get some kind of treatment equipment.
Unexpectedly, after he entered the door, he turned around and waved to me, motioning for me to follow suit.
I was a little puzzled about what I was doing at the pharmacy, but I followed along.
After entering, I walked through a hallway and saw an elevator inside.
I suddenly remembered the stalk on the 15th floor, and it was really weird that I was secretly hiding an elevator behind the pharmacy!
He pressed the button to go upstairs, and the door immediately opened, and I followed him as he walked in.
Sure enough, I saw that there were only two floor buttons inside the elevator, one 15 and one 1.
He pressed the 15 button, the background light of the button brightened, and the elevator quickly lifted up.
"Where are we going now?" I asked him a little frightened.
"The equipment is on the 15th floor. He replied coldly.
The elevator soon reached the 15th floor, and when the elevator doors opened, a whole row of fluorescent lights around the room inside was bright, and not far from the door stood four people in surgical gowns, wearing surgical hats and masks, and a simple hospital bed that could be moved.
017 turned his head and instructed me: "Electroconvulsive is to treat brain lesions with electricity, there will be a little pain, just endure it and it will pass, you go to the hospital bed now, you need to immobilize your limbs." ”
Damn, it looks like I'm going to suffer today, but when it comes to this job, I have to go if I don't get it.
I climbed into the hospital bed and lay down, and the four people next to me immediately came to help me tie my hands and feet, the light was very harsh, I closed my eyes and let them do it.
It's useless to be scared now, just do whatever you want, I take a deep breath to comfort myself.
As soon as they were tied, they pushed the cart in one direction, and then I heard the sound of a door opening, and after a while the light dimmed, and I opened my eyes and found myself in a gray hallway.
Then I pushed open a door and entered the room around the corner, the room was not very big, I turned my head sideways, and saw a bunch of instruments in the room, and there were many instruments.
At this point, I noticed that 017 had not followed, and that there was only a person in the room in a gray surgical gown. As soon as they got into the room, they started to get busy, two of them went to tinker with the equipment, and the other one brought two wires, and there was a plastic clip on one end of the wire, and the clip was on my ear, one on the other. I also took some sucker-like stuff and pressed several on my chest.
The other guy took a rubber ball and put it in my mouth and told me to lift my head a little bit, and the rubber ball seemed to have buckles on both sides and fastened it from behind my head.
At this time, I heard the machine start to scream, and my heart was nervous.
Suddenly a violent burst of energy ran through my head, I can't describe how strong it was, like a roaring high-speed train from left to right constantly crushing my head with its wheels, this sharp pain and convulsions were a hundred times stronger than when I accidentally touched a wet and charged switch when I was a child!
I don't remember if I wailed loudly, but I remember the intense twitching of the muscles all over my body, the same feeling as when my legs cramped, and every muscle cell in my limbs, my stomach, and my body tried to twist violently into a ball.
Oh! The pain was so intense that I shuddered when I think about it now.
I don't know how long the treatment took me, but my hearing was audible all the time, from the beginning it was clear, and then it became blurry when I became confused, but the sharp pain caused by the convulsions never stopped, like appendages.
I used up all my energy and passed out.
When I woke up again, I had a cracked headache, and my teeth and masseter muscles were very sore, even more sore than eating 100 pounds of bayberry. It was as if all the ligaments in my limbs had been strained, and I was in pain when I moved, and I really couldn't move at all, and my spirit was very weak, and I didn't want to move my lips.
But I still noticed in my daze that this room was not the one I had stayed in before, and it was very dark all around, as if someone had come to hang salt water on me, and I came and went several times.
The next day I was a little more conscious, my head didn't hurt so much, it became a feeling of dizziness, and the tearing pain in my limbs was still very strong.
This ward is very dilapidated, as if it was the same as the ward in the town health center when I was a child, the people who came to fetch salt water were male nurses, and their attitude was very bad, I said that I was thirsty and wanted to drink some water, but he scolded me for hanging so many bags of salt water a day and thirsty you don't die.
For the first two days, there was nothing to eat, and there was no water to drink, so they hung salt water every day.
By the third day, I had recovered a lot, my head was no longer swollen, and I was able to sit up on my own, but my legs and feet still hurt a lot. At this time, the nurse gave me a bowl of porridge for each meal and let me eat it myself, the porridge was light porridge, and the side dishes were only given a packet of mustard.
What the fuck!
I really wonder if my brain is broken and I'm hallucinating.
It wasn't until a week later that the nurse gave me an injection of unknown medicine, and I woke up and went back to my old ward.
