Chapter 13 Convergence of Civilizations
What the hell is this? I looked at the thing for a moment, this alien food was hexagonal, very regular in shape, it seemed to be some kind of shaped pastry, it looked like a large piece of cheese but darker, and there was some transparent texture, a little close to soap.
I picked up a piece and sniffed it, it had a greasy sweet aroma, and the pastry seemed to be made with honey and grease, and it seemed to be edible.
"It's made of sugar and fat, it's the favorite of the Kraworms, they have a sweet tooth, and I don't know your biostructure, but I guess it's going to be fine." Karim said from the side.
I glanced at Karim, and his food was two white strips that felt like some kind of alien bar, which he was crunching into the bar.
I said in my heart that I can't starve to death, and I took a bite into the food in my hand, and the entrance was a very sweet taste, not to mention, this thing tasted quite sweet, but the taste was slimy, and it was very, very greasy, the taste was not like soap but more like a wax block, and I ate a few bites and it was a little greasy.
But my stomach was not full, I barely ate a few more bites, drank a sip of water, swallowed the contents of my mouth hard, my stomach was finally not very hungry, the rest was put aside by me, and I left it to eat slowly later, I feel that this thing is super high in calories, or don't eat too much, in case it is really raised for nothing, and it will be wronged to death.
For the rest of the year, I used it as food, and although it was greasy, it was okay to get used to it, at least I wouldn't starve, and the key was that there was no room for picky eating as a prisoner.
I've also grown accustomed to the strange feeling of oppression inside the spaceship while traveling faster than light.
I was probably on the ship for two or three to five or six days, and since I had no reference or clock, I couldn't tell the day exactly, so I could only barely calculate it by the speed of my hunger and going to the toilet.
In the past few days, in addition to eating, drinking, lazing, thinking, and being in a daze, I have not forgotten to continue to ask Karim about the galaxy.
This Karim obviously doesn't have much interest in me, after all, I'm just an alien from an early level 2 civilization, but probably because I'm bored, he also has answers to my questions, and from this Karim's mouth, I know a lot about the galaxy.
"By the way, why do you look like a human being as a person from a different planet?" On this day, I asked another question that I noticed.
Karim didn't answer my question right away, but thought for a moment.
"All of this can be explained by a theory called "Civilization Convergence Theory", which holds that extraterrestrial civilizations on different planets, although they live on different planets and have different environments, will eventually derive a lot of similar things, such as - did your civilization invent the wheel?" He asked.
I nodded, and my heart said this is no more nonsense.
"And are your wheels round?"
I nodded again, and my heart said, "Isn't the wheel round?" But wait, did he mean β I think I had vaguely guessed what he was trying to say.
Sure enough, Karim said, "don't you think it's too much of a coincidence that the wheels invented by all the civilizations of all different planets are round, almost without exception?" β
I immediately understood what he meant, "So you mean that different civilizations will have similarities because there will be an optimal solution to some things?" Only this optimal solution is the most suitable, as if the wheel must be round, and the so-called different paths lead to the same endβ"
"That's right!" Karim nodded, "And it's not some things, but most things, like monitors, I guess the displays invented by your civilization must be rectangular or square, right?" β
I nodded again.
"The displays of our planet are also rectangular, in fact, most of the planet's displays are rectangular, this is because the eyes of most people on the planet are parallel divisions, and rectangular displays are the most reasonable for creatures like us with visual divisions."
"There are many more examples like this, such as the most common car usually has four wheels, because this is the least option to run the wheels firmly."
"The earliest weapons invented by all civilizations were usually sticks and stones, the former for attack and the latter for throwing, and then from these two different types of weapons were derived."
"When we invent and create, we will choose the most reasonable option, and this option is common in many cases."
I thought it made a lot of sense, but I continued to ask, "But these are all determined by human choice, and aren't biological characteristics determined by natural choice?" β
Karim nodded: "This is the case, but even nature has a lot of convergence, such as the eyes of different kinds of creatures must be above the mouth, and the nose must be the most front position of the face, because this is the result of natural evolution, so your civilization should have discovered the evolution of living things, right?" β
I nodded, indicating that I had found out.
Karim continued: "If a race wants to develop civilization, it must learn to use tools, and to use tools, it must free some of its limbs from running and moving on the ground, and almost without exception, it is the forelimbs that are finally liberated, because the hindlimbs also need to walk, otherwise they will not use the forelimbs to walk and the hindlimbs use tools, because the eyes are in front, and the forelimbs can effectively cooperate with vision to complete efficient and complex tasks, and the hindlimbs are simply impossible to do, which will not vary depending on the race." β
After listening to it, I immediately felt that it made sense.
"So almost all the intelligent races in the interstellar world walk upright, maybe there may be four hands or four feet or something, or there is a difference in height and weight, but it must be separated from the hands and feet, and the intelligent race and the beast can be identified from the distribution of limbs in many cases."
"At the same time, the political system of the country, the social composition of civilization, the way civilizations deal with each other, and the ethical and moral norms within civilizations are also affected by the convergence of civilizations, so you don't have to worry about meeting too strange aliens, basically except for their different appearances, they will not be more difficult to understand than the crazy people in your race.
Of course, strange aliens always exist, after all, the universe is so big, God knows what kind of strange alien life will exist in the dark depths of the universe, but at least in my experience, most aliens are not difficult to communicate with, as long as you keep an open mind. β
I felt a lot more relieved after listening to this, and I nodded my head to indicate that I had been taught.
Through Karim's explanation, I can be regarded as having a basic understanding of the interstellar society, and even if I encounter something strange in the future, I will not be too surprised.
On this day, the strange pressure on the spaceship suddenly disappeared.
