Chapter 6: Gwen Visits
After Gewen arrived home after the internship, she changed into casual clothes and went out again. George was in the hospital for a follow-up check-up, and his previous injuries were almost healed, but he still had to go for regular rehabilitation check-ups. Gwen left a note on the table, reminding him not to wait for him to come back for dinner tonight.
After changing two buses, she finally arrived in front of Parker's house. She straightened her hair and clothes on her phone before making her way to the door. Although it wasn't her first time at Peter's house, she was a little nervous.
After three knocks on the door, she immediately heard footsteps coming from inside the door. The door was soon opened, and Aunt May's face appeared in front of her eyes.
"Hello!" She nervously swallowed the saliva from her mouth. "I'm Gwen!"
"Uh-huh, come in quickly." Aunt Mei took her hand affectionately and pulled her into the room. And Gwen wanted to slap herself on the head. She and Aunt Mei have met twice before, why do they still habitually introduce their names?
As soon as she entered the door, Gwen smelled the oncoming scent, and her eyes couldn't help but drift to the kitchen, and Aunt Mei also noticed this. Aunt Mei rubbed her hands together and a big smile appeared on her face.
"Tonight's dinner was crispy barbecue, grilled asparagus and butter-fried mushrooms. I've also prepared some fruit salad that I hope you enjoy. β
"Hmm!" Gwen nodded. It sounded like a lot more than her usual dinner, after all, neither she nor George had time to soak in the kitchen for an hour or two to make a big meal. Hearing her answer, the smile on Aunt Mei's face became even bigger.
"The barbecue is about forty or fifty minutes away, and Ben hasn't come home yet. If you're a little hungry right now, I've got some strawberry cakes left over from the morning. As she spoke, she brought the large plate full of small cakes from the kitchen table. Gwen hesitated for a moment, but her foodie nature overcame her hesitation and took a cake from her plate.
"Peter is upstairs now, as if he was working on some electrical appliance. I'll call you later when it's time for dinner. Aunt Mei brought back the plate of small cakes and continued to work in the kitchen. Gwen changed her shoes and followed her.
"Is there anything I can help me with?" Gewen was a little embarrassed to leave Aunt Mei alone in the kitchen, and when she heard her words, Aunt Mei just waved her hand.
"There's no need, I'm just alone here. After all, I've been like this for so many years, and I may not be used to having one more person. She smiled and pushed Gwen out of the kitchen. Go to Peter first, he's been waiting for you for a while. β
Gwen had no choice but to go upstairs and came to Peter's door. And no matter how many times she knocked it, there was no reaction inside. After a while, she finally exhausted her patience and pushed the door open.
Peter, who was sitting on the ground inside, was visibly taken aback. Dancing with his hands, he threw the things in his hand directly, and the headphones he was wearing were also thrown to the ground by him. He waited until he saw that it was Gwen before he exhaled.
"Knocking on the door before coming in next time startled me." Peter bristfully picked up the parts he had knocked over on the floor, took off his headphones, and threw them on the bed. And the next moment, Gwen rushed in front of him and grabbed his ear.
"I knocked on the door, you idiot!" She gritted her teeth at Peter, the strength of her hand increasing a few more times, and Peter's face wrinkled with pain from the sudden attack. "It's a lot of courage to fight back."
"Ahh Peter, who was pulled to his feet by Gwen's pull, could only open his mouth and beg for mercy. "Gewen, you are super kind and gentle, adults have a lot, don't care about the little mistakes of the villain."
Seeing Peter's unproductive appearance, Gwen could only withdraw her hand stupidly. Peter grinned and rubbed his reddened ears, pulled a chair from the corner of his room, and placed it next to Gwen, while he sat down on the bed.
"You're really ruthless." He said to Gwen. Gwen rolled his eyes.
"It's your fault that blames me."
Instead of sitting in the chair that Peter had brought, she walked up to Peter's side and sat down on the bed against him. Peter chuckled and put his arm around her shoulder.
"It's me wrong, forgive me, okay?" He whispered in Gwen's ear. And Gewen gave him a blank look again, and this time she obviously softened a lot, and it seemed that her anger had almost disappeared. At this time, she finally noticed what Peter had been fiddling with on the ground.
"What is this?" She picked up several of the parts, one of which appeared to be a simple air pressure can, and the other a pressure switch of some kind. She looked closely, but she didn't guess what Peter was tossing about.
"A gadget I envisioned. Now it seems that there are still many immature places. With a slight movement of Peter's hand, the scattered parts floated into what looked about the size of a matchbox.
"I now find that on my own, I am helpless on many occasions. Having defeated a lot of criminals, I also don't have a means to make sure they can't escape until the police arrive. The only thing it can help me now is in maneuverability, but to be honest, I'm still a little bit unhappy. β
Ge Wen was also intrigued by his words: "Then what do you think now?" β
"I would have liked to build on the original hook and rope launcher with some kind of gas propulsion system to increase its speed and range. But truth be told, it has limited other benefits. I can't just hook the people who need to be saved with this, maybe I will hurt them even more this time. As for restricting the prisoners' mobility, I could consider tying them up with ropes. But how exactly does this work... Alas, it's still not very practical. β
"Hmmβ" Gwen began to think about it. If this is the only limitation, should you consider some kind of electric shock device or viscous substance? Or do I steal a bunch of handcuffs for you directly from my dad? β
"Poof." Peter laughed. "Handcuffs from your dad? What would the other police think when they saw that the handcuffs on the hands of those detained gangsters were all from their own bureau? Besides, you don't know the effect of the electric shock weapon, if you can't directly hit the vital part, a slightly stronger man can resist with his physique alone. β
"Huh... That's rightβ" Gwen's tone suddenly drifted up, and she stretched and lay down directly on Peter's bed. She sniffled a few times, her brow furrowed. "Oh, your quilt smells so bad."
"I don't have your habit of spilling perfume under the quilt." Peter said helplessly, and he poked Gwen in the face. "Tell me, what happened today? As soon as you came in, I could see that you were in a good mood. β
Gwen twisted and slapped Peter's fingers away, but she was still lying on the bed. "Guess what."
"What's the breakthrough in the lab? Wrong... You shouldn't be like that either. Is it from the school or from the internship? Peter couldn't come up with a reliable answer for a long time, so he could only look at Gwen again. And she just smiled evilly, as if by magic, and there was an extra envelope in her hand.
