Chapter 10: Disappearance
Peter did not see Mary again for the rest of the weekend. Pen & Fun & Pavilion www.biquge.info
On Monday morning, Peter saw Mary at the school gate. He hesitated for a moment before stepping forward to say hello. Contrary to her usual appearance, Mary glanced at him and left without saying a word. This made Peter a little stunned, but at the same time felt that it was all taken for granted.
After all, they are two completely different people, Peter thought to himself.
For the next few days, there was no word between Mary and Peter. Even the number of meetings between the two sides has dropped to almost zero. It was only when Peter left the house in the morning that he sometimes saw a trace of her.
Even Harry sensed something was wrong.
"What's the matter, did you have a problem with my fire-haired lady?"
"Sort of, you haven't been paying attention to me lately." Peter was still his old man, leaning on his desk and reading his novel during class. "It's a little contradictory, but it's actually nothing."
"You can't do that." Harry continued to diligently take his notes, staring at the table the teacher had drawn on the blackboard. "As a gentleman, you should take the initiative to apologize to her. How can anyone like you be here alone to feel sorry for yourself. ”
"Where do I have self-pity?" Peter looked up, slightly dissatisfied. "Besides, even if you want to apologize, you have to find a chance, I haven't even seen her a few times recently."
"Come on, who thinks you can't see this depressed look? And, did you go to her class yourself? If you don't go looking for her, how can she suddenly appear in front of you. After all, they were in different classes, not to mention that her classroom was on the other floor of the textbook building. It's not normal to come to me so often to hang out, okay? Harry glanced at Peter, and his contempt came to him.
Peter snorted, and agreed. He seemed to suddenly understand something.
However, Peter struggled for a long time and still did not come forward to apologize. On the one hand, it was because he was afraid that his compromise would lead her into the abyss faster, and on the other hand, it was the little self-esteem in his heart that was at work.
I was right, she was wrong, why should I apologize to her. That's what he thought in his heart.
Peter closed his eyes, concentrated and raised his hand, and a fist-sized stone immediately flew up out of thin air, levitating four or five meters above the ground. Peter chuckled and swiped his hand down. With that gesture, the stone flew out at an alarming speed, smashing into the wall more than twenty meters away, shattering into more than a dozen pieces.
Perhaps the conditions of that night's quarrel were met, and Peter's Force began to explode at an alarming rate. Even though it had only lasted one night, he could still feel the strength in his body at least half of it. And under Peter's training, he quickly adapted to this new power.
Truth be told, as long as Peter exposes his abilities now, I'm afraid he will make the headlines of the national news immediately, and it will be quite easy to get a good sum of money. Willing to pay millions of dollars for Peter's research institute in the United States. Of course, Peter's fate as a guinea pig may not be escapable.
Peter became more and more passionate about studying and training his abilities, and spent almost all of his free time on it every day. And this awkward silence between him and Mary has continued because of his inaction.
So when he heard the news about Mary, he was so surprised that he couldn't speak for a while.
"What? Mary didn't show up for class today? ”
"Not only that, but she didn't come to class yesterday and the teacher had already called home. Her father didn't know where she was. ”
"Is it true? Damn, what the hell is going on, I didn't hear anything. ”
"I haven't asked you yet?" Harry was a little impatient. "You're her friend and her neighbor, and I heard about it before you. I really don't understand what kind of awkwardness you're making. ”
Peter was speechless.
Immediately after the first lesson, Peter went to the office and asked to leave early. Since it was Mary's concern, he had to intervene. This little request was quickly approved by the teacher, and as a top student, he still has this privilege.
After walking out of the school gate, Peter, who was carrying his school bag, was a little dazed, but quickly made a plan. There are no clues in hand, so I can only start with Mary's house. Mary's father should still be at home by now.
Mary's father, who was a security guard at a bar, was shot three times in a brawl that got out of control. His luck was good, all three shots were non-lethal, but the next surgery accidentally left him permanently lame, and he lost his job and began his life as a drinker. Mary's mother soon left the family, but she did not take Mary with her. The government's handouts and the hospital's huge compensation were also able to sustain the family. But most of the family's money was thrown into gambling and alcohol.
Mary hated her father, and Peter knew that.
Stopping at the gate of Mary's house, Peter knocked on it three times. Seeing that there was no movement in the door, Peter knocked on the door three more times, but this time with all his strength.
After a long while, there was still no footsteps in the room. Peter frowned and tried the handle on the door. To his surprise, the door was unlocked, and Peter walked into the gloomy house.
There was a disgusting musty smell coming from the room, and there were several black patches on the ceiling. It seems that the house has not been cleaned in a long time. Peter had taken a few steps, and just as he thought Mary's father had gone out, he heard a noise from the kitchen premises.
Following the sound, Mary's father was lying on the ground, humming. I don't know if he fell down or if he simply slept here last night. However, judging by the strong smell of alcohol on his body, both options are very likely. He rubbed his eyes, saw Peter, and immediately cried out.
"Damn you wicked dogs, this is my house! You don't have the right to... Oh, you're... The kid next door. When he finally realized who the person in front of him was, Mary's dad snapped and visibly relaxed. What's wrong? What's the matter? ”
"Uncle, Mary didn't come to school today or yesterday, what's wrong with her?" Peter took a step back without moving, trying to make his expression as kind as possible. Peter had always lacked respect for the uncle in front of him, and the smell of alcohol from him was so unpleasant.
"Mary... I don't know. Mary's father patted himself on the head and stood up. Wait a minute, do you want coffee? I'll make you a drink. ”
Peter quickly declined, he did not dare to drink from the cups in this house. "She hasn't been to school for two days, isn't there anything wrong with her?"
"It's been two days, huh?" Mary's father had a look of abrupt realization, and then quickly switched to indifference. "I don't know. That dead girl goes out crazy all day, and I can't control her. Her daughter is away from home for half of the week. ”
"Then you're not worried at all?" There was already a surge of anger in Peter's heart, if it weren't for the man in front of him, Mary would definitely not be what she is now.
"Worried? I'm worried. Mary's father took an apple out of the fridge and began to nibble on it. I'll go to the police station tomorrow to report the case. It's a little early, and it's not 72 hours yet. ”
"Shall I go to Mary's room first? Maybe she left behind information about where she was going. Seeing that there was no useful information from Mary's father, Peter had no choice but to change his target.
"Oh, okay, go ahead, go ahead. But keep your hands and feet clean. If you find something missing in the room, I'll settle the account with your parents. He waved his hand, then froze for a moment before standing abruptly. Wait a minute, how did you get to my house, did you smash the glass? Damn, if you smash the glass of my house, I'm going to rip off your skin! ”
"No, Daddy Mary." Peter couldn't laugh or cry. "Your door is unlocked."
"Oh, then you can lock it up for me when you go out." He sat down relaxedly again.
-----
Walking upstairs, Peter walked into Mary's room, which had been more than three years since he had last been there. At that time, their relationship was far better than it is now, and they could be regarded as close friends. But I don't know when it began, and the distance between the two is getting bigger and bigger. Peter sighed, Mary now felt a little strange to him.
The room was a little different from what he remembered, with a bookcase missing and a wardrobe added, but there weren't too many clothes in it. Scattered on the floor of the room were piles of books and papers, containing sheet music, as well as homework and textbooks. Her desk was surprisingly clean, with only a small pile of books and a few small decorations scattered around.
Thankfully, Peter already knew what he was looking for, otherwise it would have taken hours just to rummage through the room. I searched through the top and drawers, but found nothing. Peter then began his search elsewhere in the room, eventually finding what he was looking for next to Mary's pillow.
It's a phone book, and the purple cover on it looks very new.
Turning to the page where the phone calls of Henry and the others were recorded, Peter finally exhaled with relief.
