Chapter Eighty-Nine: Brewing
South New York, Docklands.
On a six-story residential building, Peter quietly jumped off the roof across the street. A dark shadow appeared next to him a moment later, it was Matt, who had just recovered from his injuries. At this time, he seemed a little preoccupied. The reason is simple, he has been out of touch with Stickser and Erica for a long time. It is understandable that Sticksuo should have left New York by this time, but it is strange that even Erica, who used to haunt him, didn't even say hello before disappearing.
But now was not the time to think about it, he and Peter had come here for a more important and urgent purpose.
At this time of year, the pedestrians on the roads in the neighborhood have long since returned home, and the people on the road are often the same as the idle gangsters, or those who are going to have a drink with friends after dinner. However, at this time, this usually quiet area has an unusual sound. Two police cars stopped next to a nightclub on the corner, and sirens in the distance signaled that more police were coming in that direction. The lights in the surrounding apartments were mostly on, and the citizens who had been disturbed by the movement just now looked at the horrific scene with fear and curiosity from the balconies.
The door had been broken open by some kind of heavy weapon, and the walls of the room were riddled with bullet holes. Most of the furniture in the nightclub had been knocked over or swept to pieces in a recent scuffle. Several of the injured who had been carried out on stretchers rolled and howled in pain. But compared to others, these survivors are lucky. The bodies of at least eight people have been packed into body bags, and police at the scene are finding more human parts in various corners.
The scene in front of me seemed like a news program report on a war in the Middle East, but this was Manhattan, New York.
Looking at the dead and wounded in front of him, Peter's face was not good.
They were a step too late, and Kim's convoy had just left from here twenty minutes earlier, leaving only corpses and mutilated people in the wake. Those who remain awake do not seem to be able to provide more information. Listening to them, these twenty or so heavily armed men were subjected to a one-sided massacre, and even the identity and motives of the other party were not determined. And it was exactly the same as the seven scenes they had just passed through. Although the motive is unknown, there is no doubt that the only person who can do this at this stage is the former underground emperor of New York.
"Matt, what do you think?" Peter asked Matt, who was sitting next to him. He hadn't moved for nearly a minute, as if he was looking down in thought.
"They didn't stay long. The smell of gunsmoke here is so strong that I can't get too many details. Matt said in a deep voice. But I can chase them in the direction. β
"Okay, then let's do it now. They must be stopped before they do more damage. Peter nodded and was about to turn away, but Matt held him back.
"Calm down, I think we need a better solution." Matt cupped his forehead. "First, at our pace, we're just following the trails they left behind. At the current rate, there is no telling how much time it will take before we catch up with them. β
"Do you have a better solution?" Peter's tone was also very helpless. "If you have one, I'll hear you. I know it's stupid to follow their butts like this, but that's the reality. β
"That's just the first point. I don't know if you've ever wondered why Kim did this. β
"Why? With a person like him, I don't think it's a surprise to do anything. Peter looked a little confused. And looking at him like this, Matt couldn't help but sigh, this kid is still too young and naΓ―ve.
"No, no matter what he does, he should have a purpose in it." Matt said in a deep voice. "And you look at the situation now. Is it any good for him to be constantly attacking the strongholds of various gangs now? In doing so, he not only attracted the attention of the entire New York police to himself, but more seriously, the remaining gangs would certainly not forget the massacre. β
Peter touched his chin, and the face beneath the mask took on a thoughtful expression. "So you mean...?"
"I mean it very simply." Matt stood up and moved himself. "There's definitely something in all of this that we don't know about. And finding them will be the key to stopping this. β
-----
A convoy drove through the streets of New York. They seem to behave very ordinarily in the eyes of ordinary citizens, but those who are interested can easily associate some very bad things from the direction they came from. There were seven large black vans, and in the middle was Kim Ji, the man all over New York was sitting in the back seat. Sitting next to him was a very thin man. His entire body was covered in clothing, a mask, and gloves. Only the gently heaving chest showed that the man was not just a corpse.
The plan was a success.
Kim slowly pressed the window and lit a cigar. Thick smoke poured into every corner of his lungs with his breath, reappeared in the night sky with a long sigh, and then disappeared with the wind. Tasting the bitterness of the tip of his tongue, he looked out the window at the street. In the lingering smoke, some of his long-forgotten memories resurfaced in front of his eyes.
After tonight, the crown of the Underground King of New York will not belong to him.
Although he had known the consequences of all this, he still felt a little reluctant in his heart. Power is addictive after all, and it doesn't feel good to watch it slip through your fingers.
But it doesn't matter, sooner or later all this will come back to him again. Money, manpower, and status are just chips in your hands. As long as he was alive, he naturally had the confidence to rebuild his dark dynasty from the shards once again, brick by brick.
Of course, the immediate need is to survive this night first. Kim closed his eyes, and the map of New York, which he had seen countless times, came to his mind. The strongholds of the inner ghost have been completely destroyed so far, and he only needs the last step before he can launch the final general attack.
And in the next second, there was a sudden change in front of the convoy, and the van where Jin Ji was located was also forced to step on the brakes, causing the passengers in the car to shake their bodies. Silently grasping the back of the chair in front of him, a smile appeared on the corner of Jin He's mouth.
After waiting so long, the fish finally took the bait.
