Chapter 7: Morett
Peter watched Mary's figure disappear behind the wooden door, and then began to look around for a place to sit. Pen @ fun @ pavilion wWw. ļ½ļ½ļ½Uļ½Eć It took him a little while to find a spare seat. He was a little nervous, because he always felt that the two big men next door who were already covered in tattoos from head to toe looked at him with some malice.
The tough wait time didn't last long. After a while, the stage lights in the center of the bar came on, and the four members of Mary's Band poured out of the backstage to javascript: to their instruments.
"Hello everyone!" The tall, lanky, long-haired young man at the head of the band spoke first. "Thank you all for coming! We are... Ghost Pepper Band! ā
The crowd in the bar cheered, and the young couple sitting at a table near the stage was the most exaggerated, the girl was about to climb onto the table, and the man took off his shirt in one gulp. The shaggy chest made Peter's eyes ache.
That's too enthusiastic, isn't it?
The long-haired young man waited until the applause had subsided a little before he spoke again. "To those of you who have already seen us perform, thank you for coming back again!" There was another small round of applause from the audience. "For everyone who is here for the first time today, welcome! We are a band made up of people who grew up listening to the songs of the Red Pepper Band. Of course, there are more beautiful women in our team than they are. I'm the captain and vocalist, Henry! ā
He pointed to Mary's cousin, and at the same time, she began a short bass solo before speaking in her hoarse voice: "Susan, bass player!" ā
An extra loud cheer came from behind Peter. He turned his head to see it coming from a young man in a gorgeous suit. He sat alone at the back of the bar, with two burly men standing behind him, who looked like his bodyguards. For some reason, just this glance made Peter feel an inexplicable sense of disgust.
"Next up is our dear drummer, Robert!"
The chubby boy sitting in the back row raised his hands, and the drum hammer in his hand flexibly drew circles between his fingers.
"And finally, the newest member of our band, let's welcome our new guitarist, Mary!"
Mary, who was standing aside, also started her guitar solo. I don't know if it's because of nervousness, my head has been lowered, as if avoiding the audience's sight.
When Mary's solo was over, the long-haired young man pulled the microphone to his mouth again. "Well, next up is our first song, which is a cover of "Danicalifornia" with choking red peppers! ļ¼ā
The drums played, and the light bass and guitar joined in the next second, forming a smart and slightly mischievous prelude. Then Henry's voice began to sing.
"She was born in Mississippi."
"My dad is a cop, and my mom is a hippie."
"In Alabama, she's being punished."
"Being different always comes at a cost."
"She knows nothing but poverty."
"What the hell are those friends of yours mishaving?"
I have to say that Henry's deep voice does bring a different feeling to this song. There was originally some light and mischievous tunes in his mouth, but there was a sense of sadness when he sang it. With the whole band deliberately slowing down the beat a little, perhaps this is more in line with the original hint of the lyrics. Even Peter, who usually doesn't have much interest in music, taps his own beat on his table and hums along with the band. And in the bar at this moment, there are definitely not a few people who are more addicted to this song than him.
Peter devoted most of his attention to Mary. It didn't take her even a minute to go from nervousness at the beginning to confidence and proficiency later. This made Peter quite admired, if it was the first time he stood in front of so many people to perform, he might have been so nervous that he fainted.
"California, please rest in peace."
"Simultaneous liberation and escape."
"California, please be happy."
"She is my nun, and I am your gospel!"
As the song climaxes at the end, the rousing drums gradually stop, and the whole bar is overwhelmed with applause. Mary and the rest of the band raised their instruments, their faces flushed with excitement.
"Thank you!" After taking a few deep breaths, Henry spoke again. "I'm so glad everyone loves this song! The next song is "Exile", which is a new song from our band, and we hope you will enjoy it too! ā
The guitar sounded again, and the whole bar fell silent. If only 60 percent of the people in the bar were paying attention to the show, now they have attracted 90 percent of the people's attention.
The strength is quite good, Peter made an evaluation in his heart, and began to enjoy the next performance attentively.
----
An hour later, the band's performance came to an end with applause from the audience. Peter waited for a few minutes in front of the exit gate backstage, and finally waited for the Ghost Pepper to come out.
"You guys are really amazing, even people like me who don't understand music are intoxicated." Peter, of course, said good things as soon as he opened his mouth. But looking at Mary's smug face, it was quite effective. Mary gave Peter a hug, and both of them turned a little redder after the hug was over.
The long-haired young man noticed Peter's side, and he walked up to Peter, and stretched out his right hand to shake his hand quite forcefully. "I'm Henry, thank you for coming here today to support us. I guess you're the Peter Mary keeps mentioning? ā
Peter nodded, but said nothing. At this time, the young man in the fancy suit who had been at the back of the bar had already walked up and patted Henry on the shoulder.
"How? We're ready, now are we're going? He turned his head to see Peter, and was slightly stunned, but soon remembered something, and a smile appeared on his face. You're Mary's friend, right? How's it going, coming to our after-show party? ā
"Of course!" Before Peter could answer, Mary on one side had already made a decision for him. "Let's come along, it's super fun!"
Naturally, Peter agreed.
After leaving the bar gate, their line quickly swelled to eleven people, and in addition to the four members of the band, Peter himself, and the young man, the couple that Peter had noticed earlier also joined the group. Henry also pulled in a woman who seemed to be a few years older than him, introducing her as his girlfriend. There were also two girls who could score more than seven points in their appearance, and they only met them at the door after the performance, and they seemed to be familiar with the bassist.
Along the way, Mary dragged Peter to the back of the line and quietly introduced him to the rest of the group.
"Well, that's the girl Robert was chasing and her friend, but it seems that she is obviously not as interested in Robert as her friend."
"The couple? Michael and Priscia, Henry's best friends for many years. ā
"Cassie? She and Henry have been dating for five years, and they are Henry's girlfriends since high school. Well? yes, Cassie is his senior sister, so what? ā
And when talking about the young man in the suit, Mary's face suddenly changed slightly, and it seemed to show a hint of envy.
"That guy is Joe. Moretty! Let me tell you, their family is super rich! ā
"Really?"
"It's the kind of rich and oily! The family's assets are at least tens of millions. He himself has two sports cars and even a helicopter! It is said that it was his twenty-first birthday present, and the rich man is too exaggerated. Mary looked yearning.
"Then why do such rich people come here to mess with us?"
"For Cousin Susan, of course, he's been chasing her for four months. Let me tell you, the place we're going to go in the future is still owned by their house. ā
The party site wasn't that far, just a five-minute walk. Looking at the team of security guards at the door and the constant commotion and slot machine sounds coming from inside, even Peter knew what this place was.
The band group was already at the door, and Joe said something to the security guards, who immediately made way out of the way and let the band pass. He turned his head and gestured to the group, then smiled at Susan again.
After they stepped through the gate, Peter watched curiously at everything around him. The interior of this casino is quite large, with an area of nearly 1,000 square meters on this floor alone, which is undoubtedly a sky-high price in the heart of Manhattan, New York, where every inch of land is at a premium. The interior is not luxuriously decorated in a modern style, but it gives a rather comfortable feel.
The casino has a wide variety of guests, including middle-aged aunts and retired seniors sitting on the side shaking their slot machines, college students who come in purely in groups to get a fresh picture, and businessmen who spend a lot of money at the poker table.
The final destination of Peter's group was not in the casino, and the waiter who led the way led them to a large, quiet box upstairs. As soon as Joe entered, he tossed his suit aside and threw himself on the couch.
"Damn, I've told my dad at least twenty times, but he always turns up the air conditioner too high."
Susan, who then entered the room, sat down beside him. Joe stretched, and naturally put his arm around Susan's shoulder. Susan didn't care about it either, and pulled out a bottle of champagne from the fridge next to her couch.
"Alright, let's get the party started!"
The corks of the champagne burst out, and with this loud bang, the night's revelry began.
