Chapter 1: The First Night Walk
Chapter 1: The First Night Walk
My name is Qi Yueban, and my name was given by my grandmother.
Because the day I was born happened to be the Midyear Festival, and the eight characters of my birthday were all yin, so I was very unpopular with the people in the village.
And I know that these are just words, and the real reason why I am disgusted by my parents is that I was born without a heartbeat or breath. But I was "alive", I was able to speak, eat, drink, and even sleep normally. It is for this special reason that my grandmother has not allowed anyone to touch me since I was a child.
My parents worked in the city and sent some money every month, but never came back to visit. Even if it's a New Year's holiday, it's me and my grandmother who eat something that we are usually reluctant to eat, and then watch a Spring Festival Gala together.
Grandma said they were too busy with work to have time to come back. But I know that they are afraid of me.
I will never forget the look of horror and disgust when people saw me, as if they would be eaten if they came into contact with me.
Growing up, my only friend was a piece of jade on my chest. It's not a nice thing, and it's bloodshot on it, but my grandmother said that if I have something on my mind, tell it and it will respond to me.
At first, I didn't believe it. Until one time, I was bullied by the children in my class, cried sadly, and fell asleep in a daze. In the haze, I felt a pair of cold but gentle hands gently caressing my face, saying to me, "Don't be sad, everything has me".
The next day, the group of children fell ill and remained ill for more than half a month, until the family invited someone to get better.
Since then, no one has dared to touch me, and my "notoriety" can be regarded as remaining.
But what does it matter?
Anyway, in the eyes of everyone, I am inauspicious.
Today is my solar birthday, and I'm going to be eighteen. Since I knew my birthday, I was very repulsed by it, so I never had a lunar birthday.
My grandmother understands me and prepares a cake and puts candles on my birthday every year. Although I am not likeable, I have a good grandmother.
The heat was far from over, so I listened to my grandmother and stayed at home until she finished her errands and brought me the cake she had ordered.
After cleaning the room as usual, I subconsciously glanced at the shrine in her room, the incense on it was slightly disturbed, and my heart sank for no reason.
As soon as the ghosts and gods said, I don't believe it, but my grandmother's generation seems to be very respectful to them. Watching her burn incense and kowtow to the statues on the shrine every morning and evening, she could only pretend not to see the words in her mouth.
It was already dark, the cicadas in the trees were chirping hoarsely, and I stayed in the courtyard to cool off, and I didn't eat, just waiting.
In the past, grandma should have come back a long time ago, but today it has been so long, what is the delay?
The more I waited, the more uneasy I became, and I always felt that something was going to happen.
A gust of wind blew, and it was so cold that with a "bang", something fell.
When I entered the house, I saw that the statue enshrined in the shrine of my grandmother had fallen to the ground and shattered, and the ashes on the ground had fallen into the shape of a skeleton.
My scalp tightened suddenly, and I subconsciously took a step back, grandma, I'm going to find grandma!
In the past, my grandmother had repeatedly told me not to go out at night.
I thought it was just for the sake of girls' safety, and I didn't think too much about it.
Today, however, I realized that there are other reasons for this!
When I rushed out of the courtyard, the sky seemed to become darker, the surrounding area was foggy for no reason, the originally clear vision became blurred, the familiar scene disappeared, and the whole person seemed to be in an unfamiliar environment.
I took a few deep breaths and tried desperately to calm myself down.
Grandma said that she went to the west of the village to run errands and came back to pick up the cake. I know the way, can I walk along the way and find her?
The cake shop was also on the west side, and I found the right direction to walk there, so strange, how did the country road, which is usually fairly flat, become potholed and smelly?
It wasn't the familiar earthy scent, but the smell of some corruption, and the disgusting feeling made me quicken my pace even more.
There seems to be light ahead, and it is obscure. The fog is so big, it's better to go over and take a look.
Thinking so, I strengthened my courage, and when I got closer, I realized that it was a family.
The door is hung with white silk flowers, and the word "Xi" is pasted on the door panel.
My heart sank: Is this family going to have a secret marriage?
Turning around and about to leave, a cold voice came from behind: "Since you're here, why don't you go in?" ”
