Chapter 31: Joey
Mar 1, 2030 14:55:21
Dear Mommy and Aunt Sarah,
How are you guys? I'm Joey.
Hey, I'm sorry to contact you in such a cliché way, but I told you earlier that I was selected as one of the most high-profile candidates for military operations - well, I've now been selected as one of the official consignees for this military operation.
I can't call you today. The army took away our SIM card and gave us a new card – a card that could only send text messages, not make calls. This way they can review the text messages to avoid leaks, and it's awkward to write a text message just like an email, I know, please try to get used to it for me.
We were transferred to the dormitory, now one person in one room, in order to prevent being infected by the pervasive virus, the day before yesterday, one of the team members had fever symptoms, and was immediately taken out of the base, hey, it's just a fever, and now no one knows how he is.
The dormitories were small and lonely — they didn't have internet access, and the military told us it was because there was a network failure in the network server room and there weren't enough engineers willing to go out and fix it, so there wasn't internet in our state — anyway, that's what they told us. I guess I can only take it?
This military operation, uh, I don't know when it's over, maybe a few years, maybe longer, we were allowed to pay my wages to my family, and I asked them to pay my wages to mom on your American Express card - we were sent to the dorm for all three meals and were not allowed to go out, so you see, there was no way to use my money at all. You can use my money as you please, you're welcome.
Mom, Aunt Sara, I miss you guys so much. Please reply to my email and let me know how you are doing.
Love you
Joey

Hi Joey:
Aunt Sarah and I are both fine, but we recently heard that both Mr. Sanders and Susan have been infected, and I'm afraid we're all going to lose a good friend.
Every morning, a hospital van arrives in the community to deliver food, vacuum-packed food directly to the doorstep, bread, vegetables and ham, not much but enough.
I ran out of heart medicine, and the staff registered my needs but I don't know when the medicine will be delivered.
It's a bit bad that you don't have access to the internet now, and it's said that there are only 100 million people in the United States now, and they're all women and old people like us who have our own homes and don't have to go out to work and shop every day. However, there is still no breakthrough in the development of vaccines and countermeasures......
I'm glad you weren't infected in the military, and we're going to need a lot of young people to revive America in the future—take care of yourself, and we'll be careful with our lives.
May we see each other again for the rest of our lives.

Love you
Mom
