Umbrella at night

Three years later, one summer evening, I was going back to rest after attending a friend's birthday party. [No pop-ups. Originally, I could have walked back through a crowded street, but in order to take a shortcut, I chose a remote path. The trail runs through a neighborhood and is very secluded. Even when you pass by here during the day, you rarely see pedestrians. I don't know why, it seems that everyone in this community avoids this trail intentionally or unintentionally.

I had drunk a little bit of wine, and it was a big drink, so I didn't think much about it and stepped into the trail.

After only a few steps, I saw a mushroom-like shadow in front of me. Getting closer, I saw a girl approaching me with a red umbrella.

I drank a little wine, but my mind was still clear. At this time, there were still stars in the night sky, and there was no sign of rain, and it was really unbelievable that she had an umbrella.

But that's not the weirdest of all. The weirdest thing is that she is carrying a plastic bag that is common in supermarkets in her hand, and as she walks, she takes out a handful of things from the plastic bag and scatters them on the ground. Since there were no street lights on the trail, I couldn't see exactly what she was spilling.

She still had words in her mouth, but I couldn't make out what she was saying.

I hit a spirit. I've seen a lot of similar scenes, but every time I see them again, I'm still surprised.

I was about to go over and ask what she was doing, but she suddenly squatted down, with a look of pity on her face, looked at a cement brick on the ground very gently, and whispered, "Oh...... Oh...... It's so pathetic...... How did you get here...... Does your master not want you...... Poor little thing......"

After saying that, she pursed her lips and made a "hush" sound, obviously teasing a puppy.

But she didn't have a puppy with her.

She sighed softly, then looked at the plastic bag in her hand, and said with regret: "I'm sorry, little girl, I only brought raw rice today, and I didn't bring anything suitable for you to eat." Wait for me here tomorrow night, and I'll bring you something to eat. With that, her hand made a gesture of stroking the puppy. It can be seen that she is a very caring girl.

But her movements make her hairs stand on end.

When I heard the word "raw rice", I knew very well what she was doing with all these strange behaviors. She's feeding the hungry.

My grandfather once told me that some people would scatter raw rice on the mountain road at night to lure hungry ghosts to grab food. If the Hungry is fed regularly, some of the Hungry will do things for the person who feeds it.

Grandpa said that when such people go out at night, they either wear a robe, a hat, or an umbrella. Originally, this was done to avoid meeting people he knew, and let others know that he was raising a hungry ghost, but gradually people thought that there was something unreasonable in the hungry ghost, and that it would attack you whether you fed it or not, but if you wore a cloak or a hat, or an umbrella, the hungry ghost could not harm you.

Apparently, the girl with the umbrella also believed this statement. This also shows that she is not unprepared to raise hungry ghosts.

I've only heard my grandfather say it once before, but I've never seen anyone do it with my own eyes.

Grandpa said that the people who raise hungry ghosts are people with selfish desires, either they dare not show up for revenge on others, or they can't earn it themselves for the sake of money.

The girl in front of her looks like she is in her early twenties, she is very good-looking, and she looks like she is overflowing with love, not like a person who wants to harm others, nor does she look like a person who is too greedy for money.
