Chapter IV
This farm work is sometimes said to be busy, and it is not busy to say that it is not busy. Sometimes when I was busy, I had to go down to work in the fields at noon under the scorching sun, and I was idle when I was free, and sometimes I didn't know what to do. Whenever he is free, he remembers the good times when he used to roast corn and catch fish. He can still roast corn and catch fish, but he doesn't want to go anymore, because there is no one left, and there is no time to go back.
In a flash, he has been a farmer for half a month, and he basically knows about farm work, and after a while, he should be no different from those authentic farmers. Whether it's the skills, or the hard work.
It's Sunday again, and although he is no longer a student, he always remembers the days clearly, and he doesn't dare to be vague. He always remembered the saying: If you are vague about the day, it will be vague about you. For the croppers, there is no such thing as Sunday. There is only the saying of busy and unbusy. If you're still in school, today is a day, a day to go home.
In his mind, he had always regarded Sunday as a special day. He used to hang out with her every Sunday, but now on Sundays, he would look at the two paddy fields behind the house, watching her pass by the path next to her.
Last Sunday, he had been plowing the two paddy fields, and the plough was crooked. He could make an excuse for himself, and this was his first plow. In fact, when he was plowing, he never left the path, and he didn't know which way the oxen were going, how it was possible to plow the ground straight.
The sense of accomplishment that labor brought him was far less intense than that she had passed by the field path. Even if she ignored him and passed by casually on the path, she could only comfort herself with the sense of accomplishment of labor in the end.
He was still here early today, and he didn't know when she would pass by here, or if she would pass by. But there was always a thought in his mind: she would pass by here.
It was almost noon when she passed by. He just watched quietly, for him it was enough to look at it twice, and he didn't dare to have too much luxury. After all, now that they can no longer be like before, she will no longer roast corn and catch fish with him.
Suddenly, she stopped in the middle of the road and walked towards where he stood, and he suddenly felt a little overwhelmed. He wanted to turn around and leave, but instinct prevented him from doing so.
"Listen to my dad say you ploughed the field." She said with a smile on her face
"Well, I ploughed last Sunday, and it's my debut." As he spoke, he pointed to the two paddy fields in front of him.
"How is your land different from other people's ploughing, how does it feel like it has gone astray." She quipped
"It's all to blame on the cow at home, I don't look ahead, I only know how to look at the grass, and I can only run with it."
Both laughed as they spoke.
"How's it going? Is school tight? I was plowing here last Sunday and I didn't see you passing by this path. ”
"It's okay, I didn't go home last Sunday, I went to a math competition in town last Sunday, and the teacher arranged for me to go, and you know I can't refuse."
"You have always studied well, and you can always bring glory to the teacher. I can't do it, let him worry about it, and affect other people's learning. In the days I've been gone, the class has been a lot quieter. ”
"It's just too quiet, and the activities held in the class in the past were always very lively. Now, when there is any activity, everyone does not make a sound. Unlike when you were in school, you could alarm the whole school about the activities in the class. ”
"I'm just wild, too wild, and the school can't tame me. So in the end, it ended up dropping out. ”
"I'm sorry."
"What's there to be sorry for, it's none of your business."
"I only found out later that you fought for me."
"I just don't want to see people bully you, no one. Dropping out of school was my own decision, it was not mandatory for the school to withdraw from school, and I was not suitable for the school in the first place. ”
"Don't talk about these unhappy things, I'm hungry, I want to eat roasted corn."
"The new corn hasn't grown yet, only the old corn, I don't know if you like it or not."
"As long as you bake it, I'm willing to eat it."
"Then you wait here for a while, and I'll go back and get the corn on the cob."
"Hmm."
So saying, he went home, filled some corn cobs in a cloth bag, and some sweet potatoes by the way, and walked to the two paddy fields behind the house.
