Chapter 167: Tranquility Town
The next morning, Elena and I boarded a train to Tranquility. The town of Tranquility is in western California, more than 100 kilometers from Los Angeles, and we arrived at our destination in an hour and a half.
Tranquility is a 100-year-old town that dates back to the Civil War, and has a small population of only about 10,000 people, and there are many remote towns like this in the California region.
As soon as Elena and I got off the train, we were greeted with curious eyes from the townspeople, because there were many unfamiliar faces in the town, there was neither tourism nor industry, and the main source of income for the locals was agriculture and animal husbandry.
"Let's go, let's walk around town first, and then find a place to have lunch." I don't think anything strange will happen during the day, so if you want to find out the cause, you still have to wait until night, and it's still early, so you might as well take the opportunity to walk around the town, which is not big anyway.
The two of us wandered around the town like this, to outsiders, we were like a little couple, I like this kind of secluded town, less hustle and bustle in the city, more quiet and peaceful, even the air is so fresh, the road is spotless, there are not many pedestrians on the street, I think people should be working at this time.
Many of the small shops on the street have closed, which is more or less directly related to the economic crisis, which has led to a sharp rise in the unemployment rate in the United States, and it also has a big impact on small traders and vendors, and most importantly, with the rise in unemployment, it has also made the crime rate in the United States skyrocket, just a few days ago I listened to the people in the police department chatting and said, just last month, there were more than 30 murders in the whole of Los Angeles, an average of one every day, and this is just murder, robbery, drugs, Cases of arms smuggling and other crimes are more common. I don't know if the crime rate in other states is so terrible.
We took a general walk around the town and found that although the town is small, it has all kinds of facilities such as parks, schools, local hospitals, small shopping malls, and a very old Catholic church, which was built in 1883 according to the locals, and has a history of more than 100 years.
At noon, Elena and I went to the fast food restaurant in the town to have lunch, to be honest, I have been in the United States for almost half a year, and I am still not used to eating Western food.
I ordered a large portion of cheese beef, a fried pasta, and two beef burgers with french fries, plus two cups of mocha, this is our lunch, it tastes fragrant and smelly, I can't get used to it anyway, but Elena gobbles up whatever she eats, and she doesn't have the demeanor of a goddess at all.
During the meal, I saw a news report from a local TV station on TV, which said that there are often wild animals around the town, and many people have gone missing, reminding everyone not to go out at night, and have contacted the relevant departments to deal with the matter.
I looked out the window while eating my fries, and I couldn't help but think to myself, "Is it really a beast?" ”
So far, as far as I can see, the town is as peaceful as its name suggests, and there is nothing strange about it at all, and maybe only at night.
After dinner, Elena and I decided to find a place to stay, and we were afraid that we would not find out the results of this matter for a day or two.
Because there are no tourist attractions in Tranquility Town and there are few outsiders, there are only two hotels in the town.
Eventually, under the guidance of the owner of the fast food restaurant, we came to a motel near the side of the road, where most of the people who lived here were people passing by by car, and chose to take a break here due to fatigue, but unfortunately the business of this motel seemed to be good, and there was not even a vacant room, so we had no choice but to go to another hotel in the town.
To be honest, if I had to choose, I would still like to stay in a motel because it is cheap and easy to get around. But the hotel in front of me felt a little eerie, as if I was making a horror movie.
Located on the highest point of the entire town of Serenity, on a hill tens of meters high, this inn is said to have been converted into a manor house where a baron once lived.
The whole hotel covers an area of more than 1,000 square meters in the courtyard alone, and the rusty fence gate creaks in the wind, and I say in my heart that the innkeeper does not know how to repair it, and the problem that can be solved by pouring some oil must be left there.
The grass in the yard was fairly neat, and it looked like someone was taking care of it regularly, and a big tree that I couldn't name grew silently in the yard, and there were a lot of withered yellow leaves scattered on the ground. The tree looked to be a little old, with a thick trunk that required at least two people to hug each other, and a pair of swings hung on the thick branches, and I don't know if the swing was for the innkeeper's child.
The building of the inn is a three-storey wooden building, full of weathered historical traces, and the baron who once lived here is said to be a declining nobleman, otherwise why did such a large piece of land only build a three-story wooden building?
The hotel was dimly lit, with a faint glow from the yellowed sconces on the walls illuminating a small corridor with photographs and paintings, and along the small hallway we came to the hall, which was filled with old antiques, old gramophones, old table lamps, old leather sofas and walnut furniture, and it was like going back to the 19th century.
"Good afternoon, both of you." An old man dressed in a butler's costume walked over, wearing a tuxedo and a bow tie at the collar of his shirt, and said very gentlemanly to Elena and Elena.
"Hello, we're staying at the hotel." I said with a smile, the old man dressed as a butler in front of me looked at least seventy years old, his hair was gray, but the whole person looked very energetic.
"I'm the caretaker of this hotel, please come with me, and I'll show you the room." The old butler's speech and demeanor were very gentlemanly, and there was an indescribable feeling in his bones, maybe he was the descendant of the declining baron.
"What do you call it?" We followed the old butler up to the second floor.
"You can call me Montage." The old housekeeper led us to a bedroom and said.
"This one is a standard room, it's $75 a night, and you can use whatever you want." The old butler Montage said.
This room is very luxurious, with beautiful quaint furnishings, vintage radio, tall floor lamps, even carpeted floors, the only fly in the ointment is that there is only a double bed.
"Excuse me, do you have a double room?" We needed two beds. I asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were a young couple. Please follow me to the next room. Montage said.
