Chapter 6: The Ancient Scroll (II)
"Dr. Findlay believes that the ancient Scottish ancestors used bagpipes to communicate with Ager, and mastered the art of training and driving the Titan Python."
I chimed in: "It's like the Indian flute and snake dance?" β
Hyde nodded: "It can be counted as a kind of circumstantial evidence." β
Hyde's next words made me feel like my worldview was subverted.
He said: "In Norse mythology, the earthly serpent Jormangande was abandoned by Odin in the sea, but it grew in the sea until it could go around the world and connect end to end - so Yormangunde, Voloboros or Ager are actually different names for the earthly serpent in different parts of the world. β
"In the final battle of Norse mythology, 'Ragnarok', the god of thunder and the earthly serpent, both sides eventually died together - but although the earthly serpent died, the ability of the Scottish ancestors to drive the titan python through bagpipes was retained."
This is reflected in the mythology of the Celts. The Celts believed in the Danu gods, who have long fought a monster called Vermor, who comes from the deep sea, and their most famous leader is the 'Evil Eye' Balor, who Dr. Findlay believes is actually a terrifying Titan python. β
Hyde concluded: "So, Dr. Findlay thinks he has solved the mystery of why the Celts invaded Scotland. β
I was simply dumbfounded.
Historically, there has been no conclusive conclusion about the transmission and penetration of the Celtic civilization in Central Europe, and finally the establishment of Scotland as a branch of the Celtic civilization.
I can't help but feel that this Dr. Findlay's brain hole is really terrifying.
"Ahem, let's talk about this ancient scroll."
I only know a rough idea of this history - thanks to the fact that after I did the detective business, in addition to solving crimes, it was a long period of boring time, and reading some miscellaneous books and messy news on the Internet is undoubtedly a good way to kill time.
This also means that although I have a wide range of knowledge, I have very little in-depth understanding.
"Mind you, I haven't been out of touch all along." Hyde protested slightly, and then continued, "I've been trying to convey a message to you - the contents of the scroll, that is, the serpent tattoo on your back, are actually related to the legend of the earthly serpent. β
I nodded, confirming that Hyde was right, and asked, "Why did the contents of the scroll change?" β
"I received this email from Dr. Findlay five months ago, and I had no idea that things would come to this point. I was busy with another study, and I didn't even notice the slightest change in that photo, because Dr. Findlay's message to me was like a meaningless babble. β
Dr. Findlay had a somewhat eccentric personality, so it was not surprising that he had done such a thing, Dehai saidβand the email went unnoticed by him.
It wasn't until Shen Tangzhi found out that the tattoo on my body was extremely similar to the tattoo on the girl's back in the photo, and found Hyde, and Hyde was even more surprised to find that the tattoo on the girl's body on the picture scroll had quietly changed!
And at his insistence, Shen Tangzhi had to completely inform Hyde of the story of our trip to Blackwater Town.
Hyde's interest was completely ignited, and he made a phone call to St. Christ's University in England, only to receive another unexpected piece of newsβDr. Findlay had traveled somewhere in eastern Asia two months earlier and had not been heard from since.
Dr. Findlay departed, the day after he sent the email to Hyde.
However, Dr. Findlay left a box at St. Clee's University, specifying it as a "gift" for Hyde.
The message on the email reads:
[The serpent of the world is the key to open the door and the light that guides the way. I take the keys away and leave the lights to you, my friend. But please don't come looking for me! This is very important! Remember! Remember!!!
- Alfie S. D. Findlay]
Hyde did not understand the actual meaning of this passage at the time, and dismissed it as a meaningless whisper, but it now appears that Dr. Findlay has explained where he is going and why in this passage.
The phrase "serpent of the world" in the text is a pun, one of which refers to the human bone statue, and the other refers to the ancient scroll.
The human bone statue may be the key to "somewhere", and the scrolls hide clues to find that place, which can guide those who come after to find the right destination.
The gift that Dr. Findlay left to Hyde was, of course, the scroll I now hold in my hand.
As for why leave critical information to Hyde?
Probably because Hyde had a similar idea to himself back then.
Then a question came to my mind.
I asked, "Even if the story is more complicated, why did it take you three months if you only went to St Christ's University in England and listened to what you described, and there should have been no interludes?" β
"This ......"
Hyde tugged at his beard and set his eyes on Shen Tangzhi.
Under my gaze, Shen Tangzhi clasped his hands around his chest and straightened his back: "I can't say." β
I frowned: "I don't know, or can't I say?" β
"No, I can't."
"Why?"
"Because you can't, you can't." Shen Tangyi's face was serious, "We must wait for an opportunity before we can move on to the next stepβall you need to do now is wait." β
Hearing such an answer, I could only laugh dumbly, but after thinking about it for a while, a flash of inspiration suddenly dawned: "I understand, it must be about the origin of this ancient scroll!" Of the two artifacts in Dr. Findlay's possession, all I heard about the exact origin of the human bone statue - there's no reason why Dr. Findlay shouldn't explain another important artifact to Hyde, right? β
Shen Tangzhi raised his eyebrows, noncommittal.
I looked at Hyde again, who shrugged at me and grimaced, "For your safety, I can't reveal anything to you." Believe me, my friend, there's no reason to lie to you, after all, keeping a secret can be a very painful thing to do - I understand your feelings, because I can't wait to uncover all the secrets, but sometimes we hold back to get better prepared for the long journey. β
My eyes rolled upwards to show that I didn't have any sympathy for Hyde's poisonous chicken soup.
What a broken reason!
Could it be that Hyde and Shen Tangzhi were tricked? As soon as you say certain keywords, you will die violently?
But they said it was for my safety?
Become a living corpse like Liu Yan before...... Probably not.
Countless conjectures flashed through my mind for a moment, but I rejected them one by one.
It's like you're just a kick in the door, like you've made an appointment with your beloved girl for the first time in your life, and you've rolled on top of the sheets, and then you realize that you didn't buy a set!
I now have this feeling of being troubled, and I am very unwilling: "It was K who conveyed something to you, right?" You showed you a text message from K at the beginning, let me guess - that's not the only message, right? β
"So, K threatened you? Or is there something you can't refuse? β
"Dr. Findlay went missing somewhere in East Asia, and the source of the scrolls is also in East Asia?" I muttered to myself, looking at the scroll in my hand again, "I can vaguely see some of the feeling of ink painting...... Is it really somewhere in the territory? β
While I was in the hands of a demonic researcher, Shen Tangzhi motioned for Hyde to sort out his travel backpack, and the latter put all the personal belongings scattered on the floor back into the backpack.
"If you are directly asked to endure your temperament, you will probably go crazy, so this ancient scroll can be stored here for you first, and if you research something yourself, of course, it will not be considered as us divulging secrets." Before leaving my office, Shen Tangzhi said.
Then, she turned to Hyde and asked with a smile, "Ace, you have no opinion, right?" β
The bearded Englishman's face was as bright as a flower, and he shook his head even more rattle.
"By the way, hurry up and find someone to repair your dilapidated house, otherwise if the scroll is stolen, Ace will look for you desperately."
Leaving this sentence, Shen Tangzhi left abruptly.
