Chapter Eighty-Eight: Another Silent Hill
Outside Silent Ridge, a gas station.
Chris grabbed some water and food from the supermarket shelves and walked over to the checkout counter to get ready to checkout.
The cashier is an uncle in his fifties, with a very American-style big belly, and his hands and feet are numb, scanning the goods one by one.
"Thank you for your patronage, a total of 15 dollars and 70 cents."
"No need to look for it." Chris handed over $20 and was not in a hurry to get the things on the stage, "I want to inquire about something, my wife should have passed by here with her daughter last night, I wonder if you saw it?" Oh, my wife looks to be in her thirties and has short blonde hair. ”
"I'm sorry, it was my daughter on duty last night, and I'm not here." The uncle spread his hands out, looking helpless.
Chris hesitated, and then asked unwillingly, "She's going to a town called Silent Hill, how do I get to this place?" ”
"There is no way out." The uncle glanced at Chris, a little surprised, "Nearly thirty years ago, because of the coal mine fire, the whole town was closed, and it is said that there are still embers burning underground until now, and no one has been there for many years since the government closed the road. ”
"I've got to find my wife and daughter, please tell me which fork in the road to take."
The uncle looked at Chris's pleading appearance, sighed, and pointed in the direction to him.
"You have to be careful, I've heard that just a few breaths of soot can kill you." Uncle finally emphasized.
……
It was raining heavily, and huge raindrops crashed on the front window pane and were swept away by the constantly swaying wipers.
Chris was at the wheel of his hand, keeping his speed at the upper limit of the road limit, anxious.
He and his wife, Rose, had always wanted to have a child, but they had never conceived for many years, and a few years ago they finally decided to go to the government's adoption office to adopt a cute little girl and named her Sharon.
Sharon has been a smart child since she was a child, well-behaved, smart, and cute.
As she grew older, Sharon began to sleepwalk, initially within the confines of the house, occasionally stepping out of her room in the middle of the night and sleeping in the bathtub or on the floor of her study until dawn.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris have been taking her for psychological counseling and receiving traditional medication, but the effect has not been obvious.
Recently, Sharon's condition has begun to deteriorate, and even progressed to the point of walking alone to the edge of a cliff far from home while sleepwalking.
His wife, Rose, was under so much pressure that she didn't dare to sleep well every night, constantly keeping an eye on Sharon's room, and being restless during the day due to lack of sleep. She has gradually lost faith in traditional therapies and has been looking for more radical treatments to cure her daughter at the root.
That's why this time Rose hid from him and took Sharon on a private trip.
Chris suspends his wife's credit card in an attempt to force Rose, who doesn't have much cash, into coming home.
But the night passed, and the wife and daughter were still nowhere to be seen.
He was in a hurry, so he chased after him.
……
Following the guidance of the supermarket uncle at the gas station, Chris came all the way to the iron gate outside Silent Hill Town.
The iron door was twisted and ajar, apparently damaged by a car, and several police officers were inspecting the scene.
A middle-aged police officer wearing a raincoat and holding an umbrella stood in the middle of the road and raised his hand to signal Chris to stop immediately.
Chris pulled the car over to the side of the road, rolled down half of the window, and asked the middle-aged police officer who was walking by, "Officer, what's going on here?" ”
"Someone broke the iron gate that sealed the road." The middle-aged police officer tucked the umbrella between his shoulders and cheeks, took out a small notebook, and asked as usual, "Sir, this road is closed, may I ask why you are here?" ”
"My wife and daughter are going to Silent Hill, and I'm here to look for them."
"Your wife? So what model of car is she driving? ”
Chris truthfully told the officer the characteristics of the vehicle and the license plate number.
I saw the police officer walking away a few steps, using the walkie-talkie to communicate with others.
"Sir, after verification, your wife's car has been found not far away. Based on the degree of damage to the vehicle and the results of the impact simulation of the iron door, it is initially inferred that your wife drove into the iron door that closed the road. ”
Chris didn't care about whether the iron gate hurt or not, his mind was full of the collision of his wife and daughter, and his voice trembled and asked, "Are they...... How are they? ”
"There was no one in the car when the scene was found, and according to the investigation, no signs of injury were found for the time being." The middle-aged police officer further explained, "I need to register your names and those of your wife and daughter. ”
"My name is Chris. Silva, my wife's name is Rose. Silva, the daughter's name is Sharon, and she was adopted by us. Chris breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that no one was hurt.
The middle-aged police officer took notes, hesitated for a moment before putting away the small notebook, attached himself to the car window and said, "Chris, you don't have to worry too much. I have a subordinate who, according to last night's records, should have been following your wife's car all the time. Although I can't get in touch now, according to what I know about her, if your wife and daughter really go to Silent Hill, she will definitely go too. ”
"There were police officers who followed my wife's car all the time...... Why is that? Chris was puzzled.
"It's because of a previous case that made her pay special attention to the people who were going to Silent Hill." The middle-aged police officer replied in a vague voice, and then changed his words, "Chris, I originally planned to go to Silent Hill to find that missing subordinate, do you want to go with me to have a look?" ”
Chris couldn't help nodding his head and urged, "Then let's go right away, the sooner we go, the more likely we are to find them." ”
……
A police car slowly pulls into the deserted town of Silent Hill.
"This is my father's old shop." Passing by a barber shop sign, the middle-aged police officer suddenly spoke.
Chris was surprised: "Are you from this town?" ”
"Yes, a lot of people were killed in the fire, but many people are missing, and the small number of residents who are left have moved away." The middle-aged police officer's words were full of embarrassment.
Chris sighed and didn't answer.
The two men in the car were silent for a moment, observing each road they passed, trying to find the latest traces of human activity.
Nothing was found.
The rain had stopped outside, and the streets were still wet, and the afterglow of the setting sun was shining through the clouds and spilling over the empty buildings on both sides of the road.
No haze and fog, no ashes.
This is another Silent Hill.
