23 The tide is coming
Something is missing.
Luke Brewster, the archmage of the Anken Rein Empire, realized in a split second that something was wrong.
He was dressed in a robe studded with pyroxene and layers of talisman circles, and he clenched the staff in his hand. Behind him, the embers of the magic that had just been released had not disappeared, and the huge roar and shock were still impacting everyone's cognition. Gusts of wind from the fall and impact blew beside him, making his robes hunt. On the viewing platform in front of him, people stood up one after another, looked at him with admiration and awe, and applauded warmly. Those gazes, which he had enjoyed countless times since he became a Magister.
But never once did these gazes scare him as they did today.
Luke Brewster pressed his left tail finger with his left thumb, hidden under his robe, which was the trigger command for the teleportation circle he had set. If all goes well, this action will teleport him back to the Mage Tower, leaving a new legend on this viewing platform.
But nothing happened.
The circle was not activated, and the magic that had been active around him disappeared without a trace, his robes were heavy and stuffy, and his staff was slippery from sweating.
Nothing happened.
Luke Brewster smiled at the crowd and waved his right hand and staff. The crowd responded with even louder applause and cheers. Ankenrei was in awe of His Majesty the King of the Empire, Paul Gibson, bowing to him with reverence.
But nothing happened.
Luke Brewster repeated the action, he made sure that his movements were accurate, he made sure that every pyroxene on his robe was full of magic, and he made sure that everything was in top shape. After all, this is the Fire Festival, and he never lets himself make a fool of himself on such a festival.
But nothing happened.
Luke relaxed his fingers, in fact, he could feel, he could clearly feel, the connection between him and those pyroxene, those magic circles, and those powers that had been maintained for more than a hundred years was broken just now, the moment he had just released the Heavenly Fire Meteor.
The feeling was so clear that even if Luke Brewster didn't want to admit it, even though he had tried countless tricks in secret, he still couldn't resist recognizing an unacceptable fact.
His teleportation circle, his power, everything he was proud of, everything that made him a magister had just vanished.
It's the third Great Magic Tide.
There was a slight sweat oozing from Luke's forehead. He is not a stupid person, there is no stupid person who can become a magic master, and the third great demon tide that the Six Towers Council has always paid close attention to, in this way, even today, has come so quietly.
That would be the end of magic.
Luke Brewster remembered the prophecy of the legendary Magister Ludacris.
The end of magic.
It is also the end of the Magister.
However, Luke worries more about how to deal with the situation than about the future of magic. Could it be that he, the Great Demon Master, who had just released the forbidden spell, admitted in front of everyone that he had lost his magic power, and when the third Great Demon Tide came, he became an ordinary person like everyone else?
That's definitely not going to work.
Anken Rein's royal family has been suppressed by the Sanction Mage Tower for more than eight hundred years, would they accept this fact with a smile?
Something had to be done, Luke clenched his left hand hidden in his robes, something had to be done.
Archmage Luke Brewster waved at the crowd again, and the crowd gave him even more applause. His mage tower director, Brooklyn Arquette, was crowding towards him, as if something was going on.
In Luke's eyes, Brooklyn was turning around for him. No matter what his bed mate and mage tower director was looking for him, he could use that as an excuse to stay and hide the fact that he couldn't use the teleportation spell anymore.
Luke walked down the steps step by step, his robes covered with pyroxene became heavy because he lost the effect of the gravity circle, and his body, which was nearly one hundred and fifty years old, began to lose his strength because of the loss of the support of magic power, and there was not much time left for him.
The people on the viewing platform were still standing, and he was greeted by people at the top of the Emperor's power, including His Majesty Paul Gibson, who considered themselves qualified to communicate with him.
"Congratulations, Lord Brewster, your magic today is nothing short of an unparalleled masterpiece!"
His Majesty Paul, Emperor of the Anken Rein Empire, trotted forward, bent down and grasped Luke Brewster's right hand with both hands, with a humble gesture and a respectful tone. Luke Brewster couldn't imagine what this person would be if His Majesty the Emperor knew that he had become an ordinary person.
It is essential to return to the Mage Tower as soon as possible.
"It's just ordinary magic."
Luke maintains his usual aloof and high-profile profile. Except for His Majesty the Emperor, the others were not brave enough to talk to him, and they all stood on either side of Luke's path, and someone had already made way of the path between Brooklyn Arquette and Luke. The usually steady Brooklyn trotted up to Luke with obvious anxiety, and she didn't even stop to slow her breath before throwing out the news.
"Your Excellency, Luna, Luna has a sense!"
Brooklyn's words exploded like a new forbidden spell with surprise and envy among all who heard it. However, out of respect for Luke's Magus, they didn't immediately start talking.
"Induction...... Could it be...... Magic Sense? β
His Majesty the Emperor, Paul Gibson, still knew something about the things inside the Mage's Tower, and he guessed for the first time what Brooklyn wanted to say but didn't say. That beautiful schoolboy, Luna Brewster, is going to activate the magic sense?
"yes, that's exactly what you think", Luke smiled happily, he was really happy this time. His mage tower director, Brooklyn, and the apprentice, Luna, gave him a perfect reason not to use teleportation magic.
"Your Majesty the Emperor," Luke said with a rare honorific, "I wonder if you can ask me and my apprentice to borrow your car, we need to rush back to the Mage Tower immediately to prepare, Luna's body cannot withstand the impact of the teleportation circle now, and the carriage of the Mage Tower is far from the comfort of the royal family." β
"No problem, Luna's activation of the magic sense is the best good news for us Anken Rein, you can use it as you please!"
Paul Gibson responded with a smile on his face, then turned his head and told his entourage behind him, "Did you hear that?" Prepare a car for Lord Luke, the Archmage, and use my one! β
The attendant nodded yes. Paul Gibson had a few more words with Luke Brewster before personally accompanying Luke to the place where the car was prepared. Brooklyn and Luna followed behind them, bowing their heads and saying nothing. The effects of the forbidden spell continued, and the air was filled with the smell of scorching sulfur. Fine, dark debris drifted through the currents, some falling on His Majesty the Emperor, some on Archmage Luke.
"That's it", stopping in front of the car, Luke turned and said goodbye to His Majesty the Emperor, "I need to help Luna stabilize her mana sense immediately, go back to the Mage Tower to activate the circle, sorry to leave first." β
"It's okay, you have someone in your successor is the biggest good news for us Anken Rein", Paul Gibson smiled and bowed, sent Luke and his party into the carriage, and arranged for his own guards and the entourage of the Mage Tower to accompany him, and watched the car leave Kanbukuren and walk onto the Mage Avenue before falling silent.
"Your Majesty, it's time for us to go back, the guests are still waiting."
The attendant stepped forward and reminded softly.
Paul Gibson was silent, his head bowed, his gaze fixed on the black debris flying in the wind on the ground, and only then did he reply.
"Do you see the black crumbs on Lord Luke's robes?"
"Without authorization, we dare not look directly at His Excellency the Magister."
Paul Gibson nodded and turned around.
"Let's go, let's go back."

Maybe it's seeing her mentor, maybe it's getting into the carriage back to the city, and Luna feels better. She calmed down to sense the changes in her body, only to find that the gap she had felt before seemed to disappear again.
Luna panicked, if she had affected Lord Luke's mood by lying about the military, she would have died a terrible death. She looked up at Lord Luke, who had been silent, in a bit of a panic, not knowing how to speak.
"Your Excellency, Lunaβ"
Brooklyn is also concerned about Luna, the little girl's ability to activate the magic sense, which will determine the future of the Sanction Mage Tower, she holds Luna's hand with one hand and touches Luke's hand with the other, hoping to wake Luke from silence. To her surprise, Luke's fingers were cold and not as warm as they used to be.
"Brooklyn, Luna", Luke looked up, his face pale, sweat sliding down his cheeks. Brooklyn had never seen Luke like this, and it took her a little effort to realize that it was an expression called fear.
"Listen well, and whatever you hear, do not make a sound. What I'm going to say next will determine the future of our entire Sanction Mage Tower. β
Luna and Brooklyn nodded at the same time, suddenly feeling a little scared in their hearts for some reason.
Luke looked at Brooklyn and then at Luna, lowered his eyelids, and whispered.
"Just now, the third great demon tide has come."
"Ahh
Luna and Brooklyn let out a short exclamation at the same time, after which they immediately restrained themselves and looked at their mentor in panic.
"Really? Your Excellency, Mentor? β
Luke smiled helplessly. He lifted his robe, "Do you think I'm going to lie to you?" β
Luna and Brooklyn's eyes looked at the inside of Luke's robes at the same time, where there should have been countless rays of light circulating, representing the normal operation of the circle that Luke was carrying. Unless the Magister dies, the circles will never stop. But now, the familiar light was gone, and the inside of the robe was pitch black.
"This ...... It's really ......," Brooklyn muttered to herself. Luna was even more frightened, the third great demon tide, the end of the Magister?
In this moment, Luna feels like she has become a duckweed, alone.

The Emperor's car drove into Roseville two hours later, and by this time the three people in the car had already calmed down. The advent of the third great demon tide is irresistible, and it is impossible for human beings to resist. All Luke and his two apprentices could do was to preserve the glory of the Mage Tower as much as possible after losing the Magus's extraordinary powers.
"I repeat, when we get back to the Mage Tower, we'll prepare immediately, and in the afternoon, under the pretext of Luna's breakthrough in magic induction, invite Paul Gibson over, kill him, and take back the administration of this country-"
Luke confirmed their plans with his two apprentices for the last time, but suddenly, with a soft pop, Luke felt a slight pain in his chest. He subconsciously covered his chest, lowered his head in surprise, and saw the blood gushing out of his chest and between his fingers.
"It's ...... How to ......"
Luke was a little confused, and the pain in his chest couldn't overshadow the huge sense of absurdity in his heart. What the hell is going on here? Brooklyn and Luna had seen the wound in his chest and let out an irrepressible scream. Luke motioned for them to be quiet with his blood-soaked hands, looked sideways, and finally found a small circular hole in the window. At the edge of the hole, there were also some sawdust swaying as the vehicle progressed.
"It's ...... What the...... Weapons......"
Luke began to cough violently, his blood pouring out of his chest and nose as if he didn't want money, something he hadn't produced in more than a hundred years, and the fear of death made Luke Brewster panic and helpless at this moment. He stretched out his hand in vain, waving it in the air, and he didn't know whose hand he had caught, and those hands were warm and soft.
Luke Brewster collapsed weakly. Brooklyn, the director of his mage tower, held him in his arms. His apprentice, Luna, covered her mouth with her hands, and large tears welled up from her green eyes.
ββ¦β¦ Remember, by all means...... Certain...... Going to kill...... ...... Protection"
With a loud cough, Luke Brewster's eyes lost their brightness. He stared blankly at the carriage's richly decorated ceiling, red blood pouring from beneath his body, wetting Brooklyn's clothes and his pyroxene mage robes.
In the wide and splendid carriage, there was an almost inaudible, faint cry.

Daisy Richardson wasn't convinced that she had achieved her goal until she saw the figure fall down in the scope. Except for magic, there has never been a weapon in this world capable of attacking so far, let alone having experience dealing with snipers. So, she had plenty of time to clean up the scene and leave.
The sniper rifle that Gastens helped Daisy build was so powerful that Daisy fell in love with it after a few test shots in the countryside. For her, this is the joint work of her dead brother and her lover, who is about to be sentenced to hanging, and she wants to use this gun to avenge her brother and lover.
Daisy is not a Magister and has no ability to get Gastens out of prison, but she doesn't want to do nothing and watch Gastens die. So she decided to use this gun and do what she could.
The Steam Sniper Rifle was powerful but not powerful enough to penetrate the Magister's talisman circle, so Daisy decided to assassinate the Emperor when His Majesty returned to the city after the Fire Festival ended. Only in this way can the execution of Gastens be suspended until the new emperor takes office. And only by postponing the execution can she find a way to save Gastens.
The assassination went surprisingly well, and Daisy just calibrated the distance and pulled the trigger. After a loud roar, the black shadow in the emperor's carriage in the distance fell.
Daisy sat up straight and expertly unpacked the long sniper rifle, wrapping the parts one by one and carefully placing them in her backpack. She picked up the black robe that Gastens had given her, draped it over her body, pulled down her hood, made sure no one could see her face, closed the window, and left the room.
The black-robed figure turned the corner and descended the stairs, disappearing into the bustling crowd of Roseville.
Brother, go all the way.

Unbeknownst to Daisy, the shot she intended to assassinate the Emperor had announced the end of one era and the beginning of another in a way that surprised everyone.
