Chapter 35: The Struggle
"Who is it! Who the hell is egging them on! "Douglas lost his temper in the office again, even more so than the last time the Soul Master had attacked the elemental pool.
"No one is behind their backs, how dare they storm Thomore's Town Hall with a few high-level magicians to find the so-called Imperial Reserves!" Douglas gritted his teeth and walked around the office.
"Ford, you lead the intelligence department to check it out for me. I'd rather see what the Grand Arcanist is trying to play at such a juncture. If you don't kill a few people, I don't know Ryan's current situation. Douglas slapped the table hard and said to Ford.
"Okay, I'll take care of that." Ford replied.
Just yesterday, it was led by forty-five high-level mages, followed by three hundred and twenty-six middle- and low-level mages. A group of several hundred people infiltrated Thomore and raided Thomore's town hall in the evening. Promotes Imperial conspiracy theories during a stalemate with the City Guards, and threatens the lives of the populace when the Grand Arcanist arrives.
If it were not finally resolved, the final consequences would be almost unimaginable. The loss of civilian casualties would cause the credibility of the Imperial Diet to plummet, and the resulting management problems would be unimaginable for only a few months to come.
"Sean, who are you talking about instigating this riot in Thomor?" Morris asked.
"It's hard to say, I don't see any obvious intent in this riot. Cohen's traction plan was rejected as unreliable, and it was easy to think that the Council was looking for a more reliable way to save or escape Ryan. Both of these are inseparable from resources, so there is nothing wrong with the Riot Mage claiming to find the Empire's reserves or related information. Sean said.
"No, no, no, Sean. You can't push like that, and it's reasonable to push like that. In my opinion, this matter must have been led by those who were sent to the local school. You must know that in all of Ryan's current plans, the locals have hardly been able to participate in them, which means that they will have little status on the Hope, which is intolerable to them. I'd guess that the Grand Arcanists who guarded the six regions of the empire were probably involved in this. I learned a few tricks when I was undercover in those churches. Morris said.
"You're too conspiracy theory, aren't you? But what you're saying is not unreasonable. At present, the council's grip on the empire has not weakened, and in addition to the monitoring of the floating city, the remaining communication network of the magic network can also play a role in surveillance. In such a situation, it is difficult for us to go straight to a riot without receiving any news. I read the report, and if it weren't for the fact that the leader of the mob showed a flaw at the end, they would probably have escaped. Sean said.
This supports my words. That exposed flaw is actually very problematic. If they really knew that much about the Grand Arcanist, then he wouldn't have shown such a childish flaw, and if he didn't know about the Grand Arcanist, then how did he make the Great Arcanist throw a rat trap in his previous preparations. Morris said.
"What you say does make a lot of sense. Although junior mages know all about their mana fluctuations, for the Grand Arcanist to call, if they can't hide it 100%, it will be fatal. The Grand Arcanist can easily adapt to this fluctuation, channel it, and control it. It's easy for a mage to die of mana backlash for no apparent reason. That's how the leader of that mob was. Sean said.
The final result was similar to Morris's guess, and it only took three days for the intelligence department to find out, and five of the six Grand Arcanists stationed in the area were involved. This is not unreasonable, under the threat of the end of the world, all the manpower and material resources are concentrated in Gardes. The Grand Arcanist who was assigned to guard other areas could only passively wait for the result, which was nothing short of an ordeal knowing that the end was imminent.
"I didn't expect it to be really right for you. Tell me what will happen to these five Grand Arcanists with Level 8 clearance. Sean asked.
"It's definitely a dead end. Needless to say, Sean, you can't stay in the lab all the time. You see, your IQ has dropped. Morris responded.
"Not really. Five senior Grand Arcanists, if they were to be executed like this, the Council would have to send five more to guard the place. Sean said.
"Then it's up to the council to make arrangements, they won't survive anyway." Morris said.
Again, Morris's words were right. The council did decide to put the five Grand Arcanists to death. Douglas's remarks when informing All Ryan of the results were also interesting.
"Fellow Ryan people, it's a shame that this is happening at such a critical juncture. The last time the Grand Arcanist was sentenced to death seemed to be the Necromantic Grand Arcanist Richie 2,000 years ago, because of inhumane experiments. ”
"It's a shame that we have a little over six months left. There are still people who don't care about everyone's life and death for the sake of so-called power and discourse......"
"Naturally, the empire has a way to deal with it. Somewhat similar to Cohen's Dark Side Traction, we intend to completely infiltrate Ryan's Dark Side that divides Ryan in the Breath of Perdition, using the Super Philosopher's Stone as a driving force to drift through the Dark Side to the civilized world we discovered. And I promise you that the council will take everyone as much as possible......"
With that, Douglas collapsed in his office.
"I know you're going to feel guilty again." Nelson pushed open the door to Douglas' office.
"yes, I lied to them. Not six months, but five months. Not all people, but a small group of people. Douglas muttered quietly.
"If you want to open up, no one can do everything. And the latest plan is to bring everyone with you. Nelson said.
"I have to say, your plan is very clever. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have announced your plans in today's speech. Bring everyone into the Dark Side Shards, and let the Dark Side Shards filter naturally. Those who fail to pass will be repelled from the Dark Side Fragment after being carried by the Dark Side Fragment and will reawaken on the Reality Side. What a clever plan. Douglas closed his eyes and sighed.
"If there was a better way, I wouldn't do it. But there is no way now, maybe in the remaining months, we can think of a way, such as soul compression, to store the soul as if it were a body. Nelson said.
"Nelson, why do you always talk so calmly about these two billion lives, like you're just talking about lunch on our plate." Douglas asked.
"Do you think that all people are equal and that every human life is precious and immeasurable?" Nelson asked.
"Of course, no one is more noble than the other." Douglas asked.
"In that case, how can you force yourself to be the savior of all, isn't that the same as putting yourself above others?" Nelson said.
"You're just sophistry. I didn't want to be the savior of all. I just want to help them. Douglas said.
"But it didn't help now. If you just help, you can't help if you don't help. Why be frustrated. Nelson said.
"Forget it, I can't tell you. I want to be quiet. Douglas waved his hand and lay back in his chair with his eyes closed.
