Choice 1.10 Chapter 5 - New School Survivalist (0.1)

PSK New School Survivalist

Basics section

The American people still feel that their lives are not very safe, and even if they can't dig armored cellars, they have to find a way to increase the probability of their lives. So a new branch of survivalism was born, called PSK (personal survival kit), which literally means a small box with a variety of tools to help escape, and he also has a promoted version and BOB (bug-out-bag). This refers to a backpack that can support at least three days of escape.

PSK has a lot of new elements compared to the old-school survivalists, who are standard otaku personalities, who basically regard their homes as the safest fortresses on the planet, and constantly strengthen the fortress for safety, increase equipment and supplies, and swear to stay at home forever. And PSK is a standard violent youth, who immediately smears oil on the soles of his feet when he sees something wrong, and runs faster than anyone else. Secondly, from the judgment of the crisis, the new PSK do not believe that there is a nuclear war on the earth, and most of the PSK fans are young people who grew up after the end of the Cold War, and the world nuclear war that the old-school survivalists have been worried about is a fantasy for them. However, the fallen Petronas Twin Towers were seen with my own eyes, and it still makes people feel uneasy when I think about it. Therefore, all the preparations of the PSK are to deal with a sudden terrorist attack or natural disaster at a certain time, not to deal with a disaster where the entire earth is on the verge of war or destruction. The transition from survival freak to PSK is fully in line with the changes and development of the international situation after the Cold War.

According to the crisis situation preset by PSK, even the worst time is only when there is a war or major natural disaster in a certain region or country, and the main purpose of your equipment is to escape to a relatively safe area. All of PSK's equipment must be lightweight, reliable and able to meet the needs of life on the go. PSK enthusiasts also have the concept of EDC (note: the abbreviation of every daycarry in English, the meaning of carrying equipment every day), but their EDC is far more complex and detailed than the old-school survivalist, because the old-school survivalist's EDC equipment is mainly to meet the needs of running to the home, as long as you get home, you immediately hide underground activities. PSK, on the other hand, need to be equipped to meet the needs of at least three days of escape, so they must be more comprehensive and targeted, and need to be able to cope with wild survival, urban survival, and some personal safety violations. PSK tends to carry different kinds of things with them depending on the level of threat. The most basic is a box, which can be very small, such as a metal box of Fisherman's Treasure mints. However, at a minimum, it should include equipment such as first-aid band-aids, small scalpel blades, small lights, medical hoses, fishing wires, fishing hooks, wires, matches, etc. SK likes to use a Fisherman's Treasure box with the above equipment as the most basic survival unit, even if you go to the street to make soy sauce. Of course, this box is often seen by the PSKs as a last resort, like a spare pistol for the police. In general, PSK will carry at least one fanny pack, including knives, small flashlights, radios, first aid kits, hydration bags, etc., in normal threat situations. Unlike old-school survivalists, PSKs place more emphasis on the use of ropes and other items, often carrying a variety of different ropes in their lives. It is an indispensable tool from sheep intestines for surgery or fishing wires to special climbing ropes. Because ropes are a necessary tool for climbing obstacles, they can also be used in the wild to create traps to catch animals, fish, and tie things. If necessary, sheep intestine or dental floss can also be used to suture wounds. In short, it will be very troublesome to leave the rope, so experienced PSKs will try their best to carry more ropes, such as wrapping paracord around the handle and scabbard, so that it can be non-slip and can be untied when needed.

This PSK is summed up in the vocabulary of the new country survival freak as the rampant. But in the eyes of the new national survivalist, simple rampage is not enough.

Therefore, after learning the concept of PSK, the survival freak of the new country will only use it as an evacuation equipment, but at the same time, it will also prepare relay supply points according to its own economic base, formulate evacuation routes, and even form a survival team to barbecue together on weekends to exercise evacuation activities. And because there is a huge gap between the national conditions of the new country and the United States, there are many differences between the survival freak in the new country and the United States, even the PSK part.

PSK believes that the costume of a survival freak should actually have no obvious features. Although most of the scenes set by PSK include the wild, when participating in field practice, they still choose bright outdoor clothing, but they will not wear outdoor clothing during extraordinary times. And not all PSKs have the wilderness as their ultimate escape direction.

And when practicing in the field, outdoor colorful clothing can ensure that you are searched and rescued. From another point of view, this is also an idea to protect one's own safety. Because not every time is a post-disaster time, equipment and skills need to be honed frequently. Then outdoor activities are a good way to practice. Of course, outdoor safety is also related to outdoor equipment.

In countries such as Europe and the United States, where military supplies are strictly controlled, camouflage uniforms may be regarded as combatants. However, in the new country, Russia and other countries, camouflage clothing is a kind of labor clothing, and it is also the cheapest and most popular clothing among the people.

Of course, some PSKs will also make their own Geely camouflage suits and choose bionic camouflage. But they always have only one general rule, which is not to use special clothing to identify themselves with PSK characteristics and identity, but to wear appropriate clothing for the right occasion.

However, there is one characteristic that cannot be changed after all. That is, clothing in buildings such as cities should be flame retardant and fireproof, while clothing in the field should be quick to dry and breathable. In addition, regarding the choice of shoes, PSK in the new country is still the law is uncertain, and the Tao is impermanent. Choose the right shoes for the right area and environment.

The abundance of surplus military supplies in the New Nation region provides a cheap option for PSK survival freaks, but PSK also does not reject high-end outdoor and hunting brands of hiking and mountaineering boots, and even considers military boots. Because PSK takes into account not only the field, but also gravel in urban areas, broken glass, and nails of all kinds.

In addition, in the opinion of the new country PSK, even the cellar faction cannot avoid this problem, because the cellar does not mean that it is eaten in it. This is the biggest difference from the American cellar school survivalist.

The highest threat version of the new country's PSK is the Safe Point, which is either a cellar for storing food and water, and a living cellar, or a farm where you can escape a major disaster. At worst, PSK quickly evacuated to a safe place either alone or as a family team, waiting for the disaster to pass.
