Chapter Twenty-Three: The Lost Snowwoods
Although my symptoms were not significantly reduced like Wang Linshuo's, I also felt that an invisible hand wiped some irritability from my heart. I exhaled, took a few deep breaths of the cold but fresh air in the forest, and sneered: "It seems that Siyuan is still very strong, talking nonsense here, and you are not afraid of freezing your teeth out." β
Zhang Siyuan bared his teeth, squeezed his eyes and showed me a weird smile, trotted two steps and put his hand on Wang Linshuo's shoulder and asked, "Hey, Shuoshuo, do you have a little impression of the direction we are heading?" I don't think it's a stranger. β
Wang Linshuo lowered his head and looked at the messy footprints on the ground, and sometimes raised his head to stare at the towering trees on the side of the road, and hesitated: "In my eyes, the trees here are all the same, and there is no difference at all. Now we've walked back to the place where we killed the bear, and the footprints here are so messy, there are our footprints in all four directions, I can't tell them at all. β
Wang Zhen shrugged his shoulders and spread his hands and said: "Now there are only three directions left, try them one by one, and you will definitely be able to walk out in less than half an hour." Anyway, I'm lost now, so I might as well take a short break, I don't want to meet the Black Bears sooner. β
Along the way, I saw a lot of animal footprints, large and small, and specks of blood. I looked at these traces that stretched all the way into the depths of the forest, and I clenched my gun nervously, and said in my heart, don't let the house leak happen to rain overnight, it's bad enough to get lost, if I encounter any monsters again...... I was silently comforting myself that the big animals were hibernating, that my bad luck had run out, and that I would never meet the same exception as the black bear again, when a high-decibel cry full of joy suddenly exploded in my ears, and my heart trembled, and I reflexively pulled the gun out of my pocket.
Wang Zhen frowned and glared at Zhang Siyuan: "Your tail was stepped on?" What to do in a panic, my heart can't bear it. β
Zhang Siyuan's eyes shone in the sun, and the corners of his happy mouth grinned at the root of his ears: "I know that I can't see it when I point it to you, so I'll make it clear." There's a slender thing in front that sparkles in the sun, and you can guess what it is, right? β
My eyes widened, and I tried to crane my neck to look around, but I still didn't see anything. Zhang Siyuan added triumphantly: "According to my eyesight, we will have to walk for at least ten minutes to get there." Zhang Xuan, don't bother, be careful with your cervical spine. β
Wang Zhen looked at the densely packed trees and pouted: "I also obeyed you, you can still see after so many obstructions, could it be that you have clairvoyance?" β
Zhang Siyuan squinted his eyes and squeezed out a wicked smile: "I want to have this superpower the most." β
Ignoring the soreness of their legs and the weight of their knapsacks, they quickened their pace, and in a moment I saw the dazzling bright white and its soft silhouette faintly peeking out of the woods, and I could no longer hold back the eagerness in my heart, and stumbled out of the woods, my heart beating as fierce and heavy as a drum.
However, this wonderful anticipation and exhilarating emotion only stayed in my heart for a few seconds. When I pushed away the dead branches and rushed out of the dense forest, and couldn't wait to look there, my heart almost stopped beating, and my ears were ringing for a moment.
There was not a single trace of destruction on the ice, and it shone like a naturally formed flawless mirror. There were no traces of bullets or blood in the snow by the river...... Wait, how come there are only four lines of footprints by the river?
I froze, my whole body stiffened, my mind went blank, and I rushed to the river in a daze, and in a blank snow I saw the four lines of footprints that I knew all too well, leading to the dense forest that we had just come out of.
Zhang Siyuan was dumbfounded, and stammered: "This, what's this, what's going on, going back, could it be that time and space are out of order?" β
Wang Linshuo frowned and squatted down, put his face on the footprints to look closely, and measured its size with his hands. I frowned, staring at him with a quick breath, desperately hoping that he would say something hopeful.
However, hope will always be disappointed, and it took him a while to raise his head, his face as heavy as the sky before a rainstorm, his whole face wrinkled together, and his voice was low: "These footprints are ours." β
I looked at the two strings of footprints less than fifty apart and didn't know what to say, Wang Zhen was very irritab, snorted heavily, jumped up and followed the footprints violently and walked into the woods. I followed him nervously, leaning my neck for the footprints we had just left behind, and looking for any differences around me.
The interval between the two sets of footprints has not changed, the size and depth have not changed, and the surroundings of the footprints have not changed in the slightest, and it looks like this group of people walking back and forth in the snow. Wang Zhen looked at me in a daze, his eyes were bloodshot, and he scratched his ears and cheeks and said, "I remember that we were obviously going in the opposite direction, could it be that my brain is broken?" β
My tone was low, without a bit of ups and downs, and I said mechanically, "Then my brain must be broken." β
There was the sound of hurried footsteps behind him, and Wang Linshuo and Zhang Siyuan chased after them in a cold sweat. Their faces were as dead as ashes, and there was not a glimmer of light in their eyes, and they were both depressed. Wang Linshuo shook his head and said in a low voice: "I've seen it all, but there is nothing but footprints, and the footprints ...... Ninety-nine percent of the time it's ours. β
Zhang Siyuan sighed and said, "We won't really fall into Bermuda in the Great Xing'an Mountains, right?" I don't feel right nowβit's not like I've never had this kind of predicament before, and I naturally panicked and desperate at the time, but this time I'm in a worse mood than before. In addition to the panic and despair, I also felt a stone weighing down on my heart, and I couldn't breathe. And it was as if he was wrapped in wet clothes, dull, irritable, unable to breathe. It was as if a dark cloud was moving with me, enveloping me in cold rain all the time. To tell you the truth, I'd like to find someone to fight with me right now to vent my anger. β
I exchanged glances with Wang Linshuo, and Wang Linshuo nodded and said, "Just now, Zhang Xuan and I were surrounded by this extremely irritable and depressed emotion, but when we walked to the middle of the forest, this emotion gradually faded. I'm also very uncomfortable now, I have a fire in my heart, and I can't find anything here anyway, so I might as well go back to the footprints I left the first time. β
Before he finished speaking, he didn't say a word, Wang Zhen, who was biting his lip, pulled his leg and left, his face was pale, his eyebrows were upside down, and he even stopped and kicked the tree next to him fiercely after walking a few steps. I looked at the falling snow and dead branches, and thought to myself, how fierce the anger in this guy's heart was, and it was good that we could hold back it.
We hurried as if we were fleeing, tail between our tails, following the footprints we had come, and soon returned to the center of the woods. I'm starting to wonder if there really is an electromagnetic field near that river, or how would we be back in the same place? But what makes me even more puzzling is, why is it so much easier to get out of there? Wang Zhen looked at the snow stained with bear blood, his black face finally changed, and he stroked his heart and said angrily: "If I leave there a few minutes later, I may use some as an excuse to quarrel with you." It's so uncomfortable, that feeling, my heart feels like it's being lit. β
I no longer wanted to recall the tormented irritability, so I hurriedly diverted the subject: "Now that everyone's emotions have stabilized, I have to ask the question: Shall we continue in a different direction or what?" β
Zhang Siyuan bit his lip and said fiercely: "Change the direction and continue walking." I don't believe that all four directions lead to the river, maybe something went wrong in our dizziness. β
Wang Zhen took out the sharp knife and held it in his hand, nodded in agreement. Wang Linshuo looked at me and sighed and said, "Now, there is no other way than to change directions." β
I said, "We have to mark every few steps this time, and I still think it's possible that our sense of direction is completely wrong." How else can this be explained? I am a staunch materialist. β
The crowd regrouped, rested for a while, and moved in the other direction. Zhang Siyuan and Wang Linshuo drew a vertical bar on the tree every few steps, while Wang Zhen and I nervously raised our pistols to open the way in front. I really don't see any difference between trees, especially when the trees are almost the same height. In my eyes, this road is hardly different from the one just now, except that there are no chaotic footprints.
I silently comforted myself that it was not normal not to get lost in the primeval forest, and if I was lucky, I would be able to find the original river this time. As the footsteps got closer and closer, my heart beat wildly, and I couldn't say a word of nervousness, only the whirring wind and heavy wheezing in my ears.
I still didn't give up hope, I stretched my neck and looked around all the way, and silently prayed in my heart, saying that if I could go back alive this time, I would establish a faith in myself. The glittering river was already in view, but no matter how far I looked, I couldn't see if there were eight rows of footprints around it. I gritted my teeth, pulled Zhang Siyuan to the front, and said in a trembling voice: "You help me take a look, and if you have one, don't say it right away." β
Zhang Siyuan picked up the dead branches, looked at it a few times, and his originally ruddy face suddenly turned pale, and then turned to dead ashes. At this point he didn't have to say a word, his face and the corners of his mouth that gradually turned down already told me everything.
Wang Zhen's chest rose and fell violently like waves, he stared at his red eyes, clenched his fists and spit out a sentence fiercely: "Go, go to the river and have a look, don't give up until you reach the Yellow River." β
