Chapter 7: Coma
"Xiao Qian!"
Watching her friend wander like a marionette among the walking dead, Xiao Lin screamed. I finally stopped her from jumping down, but I didn't know what words to use to comfort her.
Only ten meters away, the girl named "Xiaoqian" was crying in a low voice, as if she was telling something, the corners of her gray eyes were slightly raised, and she looked like she was alive.
"In the future," I told her emotionally, "we're definitely going to face a lot more of these scenarios in the future, so it's better to get used to it as soon as possible, because the world is like this." I know it's too cruel, but if you don't recognize it, you can't live at all.
After that, I dragged the listless Lin to the roof of the commissary. Stepping over the cold alley between the two floors, a protruding top stairwell appeared in front of me, with a staircase leading to the commissary, and the iron door was locked.
Ignoring the iron door, I walked along the edge of the roof of the commissary, poked my head out from a hidden position, and found a rusty white object that I had not seen for a long time—an air-conditioner suspended in the air.
I skilfully climbed off the roof, and landed firmly on the outer shell with both feet.
A stainless steel glass window opens next to the air conditioner, and if the window is lifted slightly upwards, the deadbolt will be misaligned, and then the window will open in response. In those youthful and adventurous years, Twilight and I used this method to sneak into the store many times.
"You wait up there, I'll come when I go!" I shouted to Xiao Lin above, opened the window, and jumped into a dimly lit room. This is the temporary bedroom of Uncle Feng, the owner of the commissary, but it seems that there is no one here. In fact, as early as a few days ago, because Uncle Feng was going out to save relatives, the commissary had been temporarily closed, so I can almost conclude that there will be no one else here.
To be on the safe side, I picked up the bright fruit knife on the bedside table and cautiously walked towards the door. My palms were slightly sweaty as I held the doorknob. It's a fake to say that you're not afraid, and who can guarantee that no bloody face will come to you the moment you open the door?
I remember the first zombie game I played, "Resident Evil 2", the most terrifying part is not when facing zombies, but the "squeak" sound every time the protagonist opens the door and the unknown darkness behind it.
With a "click", the door opened. I didn't dare to come out, staring at the empty darkness. But he still couldn't hold back the sense of terror that seemed to be there, and took a few steps back, standing a little farther away to observe.
After making sure there was nothing strange behind the door, I turned on the flashlight on my phone and walked out. I came to a dark walkway, except for the place where the light shined, there were dead corners everywhere in my field of vision, and suddenly I heard a "quack" sound out of nowhere, which startled me a lot. When I looked around, I realized that it was the sound of the old wooden floor beneath my feet.
I didn't dare to linger any longer, and walked briskly to the staircase that led to the stairwell on the top floor, from where it led to the roof.
After stepping up the stairs in two steps in three steps, a locked iron door came to pass. After unlocking the door, the scene on the roof just now came into view again.
Then I heard someone talking and became alarmed. Then I realized that it was Xiao Lin's voice, and she knelt on the edge of the roof and sobbed softly.
I walked slowly over and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what was in front of me. "Xiao Qian", who has become an immortal, actually followed, standing in the cold alley between the buildings, looking up at Xiao Lin, there are no other zombies around "her", which makes her look more and more like a living person.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry......" Xiao Lin's tears fell down, "...... You didn't abandon me, I know you didn't lie to me...... Thank you ......."
For a moment, I felt that I had seen an illusion, and the corners of the mouth of the dead "Xiao Qian" seemed to be slightly upturned, revealing a smile.
When I got back to my room, I found a flashlight in a drawer to prevent the deceased from intruding, and checked inch by inch the places that might lead to the outside world, locking all the doors and windows that could be locked. There should still be electricity in the room, but I didn't dare turn on the lights or any other electrical appliances for fear of attracting the attention of the deceased. I found a phone charger so that I could contact the outside world as soon as communication was restored.
In one room that was used as a pantry, we found a decent amount of food - a mountain of biscuits, canned food and instant noodles, and a few boxes of mineral water...... We couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief when we saw all this, and it was easy to see why, water and food were far more important than any gold and silver treasures in the upcoming test of survival, which was the biggest reason why this place was suitable as a base area.
If we had missed the important information on TV at the time, we might still be blindly looking for a way to escape from the devil's cave, but once we knew that there was nowhere to escape in the world, things became simple and straightforward, as long as we could prolong our lives as much as possible.
We rested for a while, drank a few sips of mineral water, and as it was completely dark, I turned on a small lamp and turned it to the dimest light in the center of the room. Escaping death did not bring us much joy, but the sorrow of the dead floating in outside the window was a thousand times more terrifying than the midnight cat's cry, which made people feel uneasy. Xiao Lin sat across from me and buried her head in her knees.
I glanced at my phone, and there was no signal, so I guessed that a nearby mobile base station might have been damaged.
My stomach rumbled, and I picked up a bag of vacuum-based cured meat, but suddenly I felt a churn in my stomach bag, and I almost wanted to vomit, so I quickly put it down, and the pale and rotten neck on the iron ladder was still vivid. I suddenly giggled, then covered my head, tears welled up in my eyes, anyway, I'm just an ordinary high school student, why should I face this? Dad, Mom, and Sister, where are you......
The pretended strength finally poured out like the water of the embankment, and I was infected, and Xiao Lin also hugged her face and cried. I sobbed for a long, long time, maybe I was tired of crying, or maybe I was exhausted by what happened today, and I fell asleep against the wall before I knew it.
In my dream, I saw the family going to the mountains for a picnic, my sister was only six years old, jumping and screaming excitedly in my arms, and I hugged this warm and thin body with some disgust. The sun had just risen, and it was red all around. Dad was changing the gas on the portable stove, while Mom was busy putting the food in order.
Suddenly, I heard a voice calling my name from above, and I reflexively looked up. At that moment, a pale, rotting face swooped down from the top of my head, and I woke up in a cold sweat.
Whew, I gasped, and was about to reach for mineral water, but found that Xiao Lin leaned over at some point, and her head rested on my shoulder and let out a sleeping breath. Looking at her eyelashes fluttering in the dim light, I couldn't help but be stunned, thinking that maybe from now on, our fates will be closely linked.
After a while, I woke her up and asked her if she was hungry and if she wanted to eat something first. She found herself leaning on my shoulder and nodded shyly.
So we took out two cans of eight-treasure porridge from the pantry, and some canned food. As soon as I was about to start, I noticed two drops of liquid dripping from the eight-treasure porridge. This is? I reflexively looked up, but I didn't see anything. At this time, I realized that there was a strong fishy smell coming from my nose, and I wiped it with my hand, it was blood!
What, what's going on? I started to feel lightheaded, I couldn't stand steadily, and I was burning all over my body, and it was very itchy. I instinctively pressed my head, but it began to swell endlessly.
Xiao Lin crawled over and pressed my shoulder with a frightened face, but I impatiently pushed her away, and the light swung around in front of my eyes like a marquee, shaking unbearably for me.
“…… Your forehead is so hot! "I don't know when she poked me on the forehead, I just heard her voice flickering and flickering, and I felt my consciousness getting more and more blurred, why was that? At this moment, there is only one thought left in my mind - it has something to do with the fact that I bit the dead person, maybe the virus has invaded my internal organs and is eating every inch of my brain and marrow.
Am I going to be like those guys? Zombie? The living dead? Monster?
In the last moments of complete loss of consciousness, my mind was filled with remorse......
