Chapter 4: Dead End
A pebble rolled down and fell on the head of Nataya, who was holding the little boy, and woke her up in one fell swoop.
Last night, the power supply to the entire settlement was cut off, and it was just a night of artillery fire and war, which kept the sky bustling and bright. After hiding for most of the night, Nataya was finally too tired to walk, so she took the little boy and found a collapsed building that could only be hidden in two people, and then blocked the entrance with some small stones, and fell asleep.
Before the boy could wake up, Nataya looked out through the cracks in the stone that showed light, and there was hardly anything moving outside except for black fireworks that fluttered in the wind with teeth and claws.
After making sure that it was safe outside, Nataya reached out to herself and looked at it, then at her legs, arms, and touched her face, and it didn't seem to be any different than usual.
"That strange feeling last night, what was going on... Oh no, where did that box fall... Nataya suddenly remembered that after meeting the mother and son, the box that was dragged out of the white ball seemed to be gone, and then she became very sensitive to the outside environment.
"Is it because of the box?" Nataya's little head couldn't figure out what was going on, so she didn't want to think about it at all... After all, if you are still alive now, who knows if you will be surrounded by those disgusting bugs in a few hours, and then eaten.
"Mom. Mom... Nana, eat Nana" The little boy who was still asleep muttered and pouted, rolled over and fell asleep again. Nataya glanced at the kid angrily, how could she not even want her life yesterday and take him away... Now not to mention milk, even her own stomach let out a "grunt..."
If only there was a food synthesizer, no matter how unpalatable it was, it would be better than being hungry... Since I started tossing last night, I haven't eaten a drop of water, and now my stomach is empty, and I feel like I can hold at least three synthetic food balls that are extracted from mud.
Nataya leaned into the ruins and took a closer look, and found that there was a convenience store just two blocks away, and there must be a lot of food to satisfy her hunger, at least if she could get a good food synthesizer.
The little girl gently removed the small stone in front of the door, made a small opening enough to climb out by herself, looked back at the little boy who was still sleeping, shook her head, and covered the hole with the small stone, and slowly approached the intersection against the ruins.
Nataya felt like God had favored her for the first time, and everything was so calm and safe until she cautiously touched the door of the convenience store. She glanced through the glass window at the convenience store, and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it, except for some of the shelves that had collapsed.
She bent her waist, gently touched the door against the window, and then slipped into the convenience store, and a hanging heart finally fell at this moment. Nataya glanced at the furnishings in the store, this convenience store is not too big, but it has everything you need for daily life, but she can't get much at all. She even wanted to use this as a temporary shelter for herself, but her instincts kept her uneasy here, so she just wanted to grab a food synthesizer and a few cans of compressed meatcakes and leave the place quickly.
Nataya removed a small cloth backpack from the shelf, and then swept the canned food in the bottom column of the meat shelf into her own backpack. Although, the two rows of cans at the top of the shelf, looking at the packaging, it feels like it should be very expensive and delicious, but those things that she can understand that her height can't reach at all, she won't waste time at all.
After only a few boxes were swept in, she felt that the backpack was a little heavy, "I can't pack this more, just take a food synthesizer and go, it feels more and more wrong" This thought kept flashing in her heart.
At a glance, Nataya saw the small food synthesis machine on the innermost shelf of the convenience store, this is a semi-liquid food making machine, which should be made for small babies, but the size of this machine is just what she can handle, in short, she can eat it, for survival, Nataya has never been picky.
She loaded the food synthesizer and was about to leave when she suddenly heard a movement from under the shelf, and she jumped to the side vigilantly, staring at the place where the noise had just made, and a more obvious sense of danger began to appear in her heart.
At this moment, a pair of pustuated hands emerged from under the shelf, followed by a black and red human head. Crawling out, he suddenly raised his head, stared at Nataya, and climbed up faster.
Although Nataya has seen countless disgusting people and food, the one that appeared in front of her today can still give her two nightmares. Half a small head with a pointed mouth grew out of his shoulders, black and red pus and blood all over his body, and his skin was full of all kinds of surging blood vessels, and only the convenience store uniform he wore on his body could prove that this guy was once a human.
The monster had crawled out of the shelves at this time, it struggled to its feet, and staggered towards Nataya, the girl had recovered from the surprise just now, she knew that if she didn't leave here at this time, she would definitely not see the sun tomorrow, and she rushed out of the convenience store without looking back.
When she ran out of the first corner to run towards the ruins where she had come, she suddenly realized that there was a serious problem, and the monster in the convenience store was not the only one.
On the streets, on street corners, everywhere she could see, there were such monsters coming out, and it seemed that the time for them to be infected and resurrected was basically the same.
Even when she saw these monsters, these monsters saw her.
"Roar~~~" When each monster began to make such a sound, this continuous sound wave spread, and Nataya was horrified to find that more corners began to walk or crawl out of these monsters wearing human clothes before their lives.
She didn't have time to think anymore, so she could only run to the right of the small hole in the ruins where she came, and if she managed to get there, she would be able to take a detour from behind the building to the left to return to the place where she had first hidden, and the most fortunate thing was that there were no monsters popping up there, and the rest of the place was full of zombies.
Just as she was about to run to the entrance of the block, she suddenly understood why there were no monsters here.
Two double-barreled automatic sentry cannons flipped out of the ground, the muzzles of the black holes pointed at her. "Unauthorized users are forbidden to approach the confidential area, stop immediately and slowly retreat, and if they do, they will be shot on the spot."
Nataya stood still, she looked back and saw that the monsters that had heard the movement were gathering more and more, because the Sentinel Tower's huge loudspeaker and warning sound stood out like a bright beacon in this quiet world.
The black-pressed zombie man was already about to touch the corner of Nataya's skirt, "It's really over this time... She closed her eyes in despair, and just as she was about to close them completely, she saw the two sentry towers suddenly turn their muzzles towards the zombies behind her, "Unauthorized users, forbidden to approach the secret area, immediately stop and slowly retreat, if they get any closer, they will be shot on the spot."
Those monsters don't know what a shooting is, they are all dead people who can't die anymore, and they only have that fresh and immature little girl in their eyes now.
A crisp string of gunshots came from the two double-barreled sentinel towers, and Nataya only felt two strings of flames flying past her sides, and by the time she turned around, the row of zombies closest to her had all fallen to the ground or shattered into rotten flesh. The crisp sound of gunfire made more zombies begin to move closer in this direction, and the streets in the distance were even completely empty.
"Warning, warning, warning, shoot-to-kill, shoot-to-kill," the two sentinel towers fired frantically at the zombie horde behind Nataya. Nataya lay on the ground, watching the fire dragon above her head shoot past, harvesting all kinds of zombies gathered here, and at the same time, these zombies also kept moving closer to this place because of the violent gunshots, and the black and red corpses and corpse fluid were piled up all over the block.
Natayado hopes that this will last all day, until all the monsters are killed, and she will be able to hold out in this gathering place until the rescue team arrives.
Before her dream had begun, she suddenly noticed that the noise of gunfire had stopped, and the two sentinel towers were just shaking in place, but no fire dragon was spraying out.
The only possibility is that the ammunition chain is empty.
Nataya put her backpack on her back and looked behind her, there were only corpses left in at least a block and a half, and her little heart was still pounding. "It's a shame... If only we could kill all those monsters," Nataya looked at the building behind the Sentinel Tower with infinite regret.
There was a huge gate, and the top of the gate was clearly sprayed with the Union logo and nameplate----- "Federal Rapa Mineral Armor Institute".
Probably because the gunfire just now was too loud, so only then could it be heard, a cry that resounded through the world: "Mom~~~~~~~~~~~ Mommy!!! Coming from the ruined buildings.
"Damn, why should I take him with me..." Nataya looked at the zombie man in the distance with a black line, and slowly moved towards the sentry cannon and the small hole in the ruins to the left of the research institute, like a swarm of black ants crawling towards food.....
