Chapter 47: Nick Fury's Decision
In Coulson's eyes, Bucky's identity is a little more mysterious. Not only does it have more hacking methods than S.H.I.E.L.D., but it should also have good combat capabilities, otherwise how could it single-handedly go to Stryker's trouble.
According to the previous style of S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson at this time should immediately report to the headquarters and send more agents to control the person in front of him.
As the saying goes, no one can do a good job, and S.H.I.E.L.D. pursues the theory of nipping all potential dangers in the bud. But looking at Bucky with a smile on his face, Coulson sensed the thorniness of the problem. Putting aside Bucky's status as a major shareholder of Microsoft, just because S.H.I.E.L.D. interrogated Colonel Stryker to know how strong the people involved in the Three Mile Island incident were.
If it were reported to headquarters, Coulson believed that S.H.I.E.L.D. and the current Mr. Barnes would have no hope of peaceful coexistence.
"Is my question hard to answer?"
Seeing Coulson's face change again and again, Bucky didn't know what he was thinking, and now Bucky was more concerned about how S.H.I.E.L.D. dealt with Colonel Stryker in the end.
Hearing Bucky's question again, Coulson came to his senses, looked down and thought for a moment before deciding to tell Bucky about Stryker's plan. After all, the person in front of him has the strength to hack into the internal network of S.H.I.E.L.D., rather than let him hack into the internal network to investigate, it is better to tell the truth himself, anyway, the handling of Stryker is not a secret.
"Colonel Stryker's alleged murder of Admiral Munson of the U.S. Army and the illegal detention of research mutants in violation of military orders has been handed over to the U.S. Army by S.H.I.E.L.D., and according to his charges, it is best to end up in a military court for life."
It wasn't S.H.I.E.L.D. that dealt with it, but handed it over to a military court to convict Stryker of the crime. This result made Bucky frown slightly, if for S.H.I.E.L.D., Bucky has reserved trust, then for those military bigwigs who fantasize about creating super soldiers all day long, Bucky has no trust at all.
Bucky doesn't believe that those military bigwigs will keep a scientist of Stryker's level in prison for the rest of his life, and I'm afraid that after a while, after the rumors have passed, Stryker will be instructed by the military to resume his research.
While unhappy with the result, Bucky didn't show it in front of Coulson. Bucky understands that since S.H.I.E.L.D. has made such a decision, there is absolutely no possibility of reversal, and Bucky can only be more careful in the future to beware of Stryker's retaliation.
Seeing that Bucky didn't speak for a long time, Coulson stood up and said goodbye to Bucky: "Mr. Barnes, although there are still many things that I haven't figured out, I still won't disturb you for dinner, so I'll leave first." β
Hearing Coulson's words, Bucky was also stunned, he didn't expect to send the people from S.H.I.E.L.D. so easily, the more S.H.I.E.L.D. asked about himself, the more trouble he had.
Sending Coulson to the door, Coulson took out a business card, handed it to Bucky, and said: "On behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D., I hope to establish a good relationship with Mr. Barnes, if you need any information in the future, you can call me directly, please don't hack into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s network again." You know, not all S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are pacifists, and in order to avoid unnecessary trouble, I also ask Mr. Barnes to restrain his behavior. β
Bucky took the card, smiled noncommittally, and didn't say anything. There are some things that Bucky can ask Coulson directly, and Coulson will tell the truth, but there are some more confidential things, and Bucky believes that Coulson will not reveal the slightest thing to himself, and if it is really necessary, he still needs to hack into the S.H.I.E.L.D. network.
Bucky believes that Coulson will not be naΓ―ve to think that he has established a good relationship with him now, and surveillance of himself will be indispensable in the future, but these are all indifferent in Bucky's opinion, he will not do anything out of the ordinary, S.H.I.E.L.D. likes to spend manpower and material resources to spy on himself, so let them be.
Speaking of Coulson, after leaving Bucky's house, he immediately dialed the phone number of Nick Fury, the current director of S.H.I.E.L.D. director.
"Director Fury, I've been in contact with the target."
"Is there any useful information?" asked Nick Fury, in a cold, emotionless voice.
"The identity of the target has not been confirmed, and according to him, he is supposed to be Bucky Barnes himself, who was killed in 1944, but he has not been able to produce convincing evidence, so it is not yet possible to tell whether what he said is true or false."
Hearing the news, Nick Fury on the other end of the phone fell silent. After a long time, he continued, "Is there any other information?" β
"The subject admits that he has hacked into the S.H.I.E.L.D. network, and that he is a warrior of unknown strength, presumably playing a major role in the Three Mile Island incident."
Nick Fury's face became more and more gloomy as he listened to Coulson's debriefing at his headquarters in Washington.
"Another person out of control, no wonder Stryker and the generals in the military can't wait to work out a way to make a super soldier!" Hanging up Coulson's phone, Nick Fury paced back and forth in his office, muttering to himself.
Faced with an endless stream of mutant crimes and an increasingly frequent number of supernatural events, Nick Fury, who had just become director of S.H.I.E.L.D., began to feel more and more powerless. Although every agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. is carefully selected and trained after a long and arduous training, there is often no advantage when it comes to those gifted mutants, let alone those weird supernatural events.
After thinking about it for a while, Nick Fury finally made up his mind that S.H.I.E.L.D. needed a new direction of development, and blindly training agents was no longer enough to meet the current needs. The current S.H.I.E.L.D. not only needs excellent agents, but also extraordinary humans with strong strength, or super people.
However, if you want to change the direction of the development of S.H.I.E.L.D. under the supervision of the World Security Council, even if Nick Fury is the current director, it is not so easy to do.
Picking up the phone, Nick Fury dialed a call: "Let that Patton kid graduate from school and go straight to the field, I hope his performance will impress me and the officials of the Security Council!" β
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a moment, and then he said hesitantly: "But Director Fury, Clint Patton, is not yet eighteen years old this year, is it appropriate for him to graduate directly from the field?" β
"Nothing out of place, this is an order!"
Nick Fury didn't reveal too much of his thoughts to others, and now he only hopes that Clint Patton can perform better than ordinary agents, so that he can have more hole cards to convince those officials of the World Security Council to recruit and train a group of special talents in S.H.I.E.L.D.
However, a young Clint Barton is obviously not enough, and Nick Fury hopes to have a more stable and capable man to cooperate with Clint Barton. However, there are almost no special talents in S.H.I.E.L.D. now, and after thinking about it for a long time, Nick Fury actually hit Bucky with his idea.
Dialing Coulson's phone again, Nick Fury asked directly, "That Bucky Barnes, how sure are you that Captain America friend?" β
This question made Coulson smile bitterly, to be honest, Coulson was not even 10% sure, but he believed what Bucky said from the heart, and Coulson had to tell Nick Fury his contradictory thoughts directly.
Nick Fury sighed, knowing that Coulson was cautious and his words must be well-founded, but if he wanted to pull Bucky into his chariot, the first thing to do was to make sure that this Bucky was really his own, otherwise it would really lead the wolf into the house.
Although Coulson can't be sure of Bucky's identity, Nick Fury has another way, and although the man has been retired for many years, Nick Fury can only be cheeky to bother for his own plans.
"Coulson, do you know Peggy Carter?" Nick Fury asked.
Coulson, who is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a big fan of Captain America, of course knows Peggy Carter, and replied: "Peggy Carter, the girlfriend of Captain America Steve Rogers, was an agent of the Science Strategy Corps, and later participated in the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D. with Howard Stark and others. β
After answering Nick Fury's question, Coulson himself was stunned for a moment, thinking of the Bucky he had just talked about with Nick Fury, Coulson immediately understood Nick Fury's intentions and asked, "Director Fury, do you want Peggy Carter to try, can you confirm the identity of that Bucky Barnes?" β
"Yes, this Bucky Barnes, I must know if he is the person we know him, and you and Agent Carter will find a way to confirm it."
"Yes, sir! But Peggy Carter has been retired for a long time, and I think it's better for you to inform Agent Carter first. β
Finding a retired agent is not an easy task, and Coulson doesn't think an agent like Peggy Carter would live in an ordinary neighborhood like a kind grandmother next door. Not to mention that he didn't know where Peggy Carter lived, and even if he did, Coulson wouldn't dare to come to the door directly, God knows that this S.H.I.E.L.D.'s grandmother-level agent wouldn't just blow himself up in the head with a gun.
"I'll do this, remember, make sure to determine the true identity of that Bucky Barnes, he is very important to S.H.I.E.L.D.!"
Nick Fury did not tell Coulson his true goal, although he is Coulson's supervisor and trusts Coulson very much, but in S.H.I.E.L.D., there is a strict hierarchy, and Coulson, at this time, is just an ordinary fifth-level agent, although the level is not low, but it is still not qualified to participate in this kind of action that affects the future development of S.H.I.E.L.D.
