Chapter 388 Touching the Melon
Coastal, Dr. Ivo's Hidden Cabin.
When Roy easily picks open the simple lock of the hut and pushes open the old wooden door, a musty smell in the air suddenly hits his face, forcing the people to back down.
Eric followed Roy into the living room of the cottage. There was no light as far as the eye could see along the shoreline, and there was no finger in the hut. Eric tried to turn the light on and off in the living room, but nothing happened.
Roy turned on the flashlight on his wrist device, casting a yellowish circle of light into the darkness. The hut was not large, there were only four rooms including the bathroom, and there was not the slightest hint of life in any of the rooms.
The moment the bedroom door was pushed open, the air flow drove a thick layer of dust out, and a large amount of dust flew under the beam of the flashlight, like goose feathers and snow.
"Well, it doesn't look like there's much to discover here." Eric shook off the smoke in front of him and said, "It must have been at least two or three years since anyone came back." β
The furnishings in the bedroom are fairly simple, and for a mad scientist with huge ambitions, this kind of pure-hearted retirement place seems a little incongruous. The bookshelf next to his bed, with photographs of his youth and the various breathtaking scientific awards that Dr. Ivo has received, silently tells the story of a genius's life.
"He doesn't have a family." Roy said coldly.
It was only after he reminded Eric that there was nothing associated with his family in the entire bedroom, and that all the things that could be remembered here about Dr. Ivo's life were about himself. Despite the swelling of evil ambitions in his later years, it is undeniable that he was also a man who devoted his life to science, and did not even start a family in his lifetime.
But it doesn't seem like there's much to discover here. All traces indicate that Dr. Ivo, if ever been here, was at least years ago.
After a moment's pause, Roy's communication device rang. He pressed the headset inside his helmet to connect the wiring and asked, "Oracle, what did you find?" β
Oracle...... Is it Barbara Gordon? Eric thought to himself.
As he had guessed, it was Barbara Gordon on the other end of the spectrum. She was a batgirl in her youth, but now she has taken a back seat as Roy's logistical support as an oracle. What Eric doesn't know is that Barbara is still Roy's wife in this world.
"As you said, I've gone through all the information Dr. Ivo left in the past and found the only bank account he has that hasn't been frozen." "And then there's the fun partβa month ago, a huge sum of $10 million was withdrawn from this account, all cashed out, but the use of it is untraceable. β
"It's not hard to guess." Roy said lightly, "That's Knell's mercenary moneyβit's Knell's habit." Unlike most mercenaries and Assassins, who now accept electronic transfers, Knell distrusts such new technology, and is a relatively conservative man, only accepting cash and cheques. β
"Wise." Barbara commented.
"But in this way, you can roughly guess where the other person is now." Roy said, "Deathstroke has four hiding places in Gotham, and they are the bases he uses to rest when he comes here on a mission. He thought they were very hidden, but in fact I knew them all by heart. β
"You know everything." Barbara said, paused for a moment, and complained, "Except for how to make women happy." β
That night, hours later, the hiding place of the Death Knell.
Dr. Ivo's diminutive body shrunk in front of the computer console, staring intently at the pale blue screen, his hands speeding up. Deathstroke stood behind him with his hands folded over his chest, watching his movements indifferently.
"So everything you want is here, why hasn't that robot started yet?" Knell asked.
"It's Amourzo, the most powerful machine the world has ever seen." Dr. Ivo's small eyes rolled around, and after a rather dissatisfied reminder, he said, "The preparation has been done for a long time, and now I'm just recalibrating its AI to make sure it doesn't roast you and me into a steak when it wakes up." β
After a pause, he turned his head and continued his operations as he said, "Also, you assured me that this stronghold is absolutely hidden. β
"Absolutely hidden, indeed." "Batman or Winged Knight, they're never going to find this place." β
"That's interesting." Dr. Ivo glanced at him and said in a low voice, "Because the sensor I installed just discovered that two bed bugs had come in." β
Knell frowned slightly.
At the same time, inside the ventilation duct above.
Eric followed Roy, following the ventilation duct for a long time, and his sense of direction was already confused, and he couldn't find the north, south, east, and west. He couldn't help but secretly admire Roy's sense of direction, and he could still find his direction by drilling around in such a messy ventilation pipe, which should be regarded as a special talent.
Suddenly, Roy stopped.
Eric climbed forward and looked down through the gap in the ventilation grille below. I saw that the death knell was standing directly below them, with his back to them, and he didn't know what he was doing.
"He doesn't seem to notice us?" Eric asked, "What now?" β
"Now," Roy said, "let's go down." β
"What?"
Eric was stunned, and before he could react, Roy had already kicked the ventilation grille down and jumped to the floor.
Deathbell sneered, and turned around as if he was not surprised at all: "It's a shame that you can notice, should you say that it is worthy of the winged knight?" Sure enough, it's not that easy to deceive. β
"Death knell." Roy said coldly, "So you're working for that old immortal Ivo now?" β
Death Knell shrugged: "Normally, I don't give out anything about customers, but it doesn't seem to matter at this point." So yes, it's the old man Ivo. β
"What is his purpose?"
"Sorry, that's no comment. In addition......"
At this point, the backpack on his back had been quickly activated and unfolded, and the armor of the sub-demon had covered his entire body.
β...... You don't have time to worry about anything else. β
Without saying a word, Roy took a half-step backwards, ready for battle.
The atmosphere was tense, and the two old rivals who knew each other were ready to move, waiting for each other's opportunities, as if they were ready to make a move every second.
At that moment, Eric jumped down and stopped in front of Roy.
"I'm sorry," he said, staring at the death knell, "but this battle ...... Can you leave it to me? β
