Chapter 615: The Legend Continues
The bright sun gently splashes on the streets of New York, and the asphalt pavement is coated with a soft light of pale gold, filling the corner cafΓ© with a warm atmosphere. New scaffolding has been erected between the collapsed rubbles across the street, and a fence with the words "under construction" written on it has been erected. Workers in safety helmets were busy, and the cacophony of chainsaws and conversations resounded through the neighborhood.
It used to be Eric's favorite cafΓ©, and he spent an indefinite number of afternoons in the corner window seat, but he rarely visited it since life got complicated.
And now, he has finally stopped being busy and regained his long-lost leisure. He lounged on the soft couch in the cafΓ©, enjoying the generous warmth of the sun outside the window, watching a wisp of white smoke rise from the hot caramel latte on the table in front of him.
It's a really pleasant life.
Two months ago, Earth was hit by the largest and most devastating alien invasion in history, and almost everyone gave up hope in that darkest of times. Fortunately, hope did not give up on them. The army of the Apocalypse struck the sky with rolling black clouds, and finally receded with the overwhelming haze, like a raging thunderstorm. And when the gloom was dispelled and the sun shone again, people were more grateful for the sun's bounty than ever before.
All the heroes who persevered to the end in this battle and did not give up hope were praised with the highest glory, and for a while, statues of superheroes and surrounding areas sprung up all over the world, and a wave of craze swept the world. The heroes who participated in the war were unanimous in attributing most of their exploits to Eric and Braid, who directly faced Darkseid, so the legend of Amozo and the White Flash spread around the world in a matter of moments through fiber optics and electromagnetic waves.
However, since the decisive battle of the apocalypse, no one has seen any trace of these two men.
A few days after the war, Eric informed the members of the Justice League of his decision to quit.
"Exit?" When he calmly announced the decision in the Hall of Justice, Green Lantern was the first to express his surprise, "You just saved the world, buddy, you may be the hottest superhero on the planet right now." Hell, if you show up, I'm pretty sure the president will give you a dozen medals of honor. β
Superman also advised, "You don't have to leave." We all know what you've lost in the long battle, but the Alliance can always be your home if you want to, and we're all your family. β
"Thank you for your kindness, I know." Eric smiled faintly, "But I just think I've probably completed this stage of the task, maybe it's time for me to move on." There are more things to do for me in the future. β
"Okay." Superman nodded, "If you already have a plan of your own, so be it." But remember, we are always your friends whenever you need anything...... You know where we are. β
"Well, since it's all mentioned here...... Flash said, raising his hand, "...... You haven't forgotten that the watchtower fell, right? So let's ...... later."
Superman glanced at Batman, intentionally or unintentionally, and said, "This ...... Don't worry, we'll fix it, and soon it'll be exactly the same as before. β
Batman's white eyepiece moved, and said, "I'm guessing you haven't seen the bills for the watchtower's regular monthly maintenance, let alone how much it was built." β
"Good...... Well, maybe it doesn't have to be the same. "Well, some spare rooms may not be so necessary, and some facilities that are rarely used can also be removed......
"Nope." Batman said lightly, "This time, let's build a better one." β
Superman was stunned for a moment, his super brain didn't seem to be able to keep up for a while.
"We need more rooms, bigger halls." Batman said, "Need to be able to fit more chairs." β
Superman was stunned for a moment, then smiled heartily: "Ah, yes, more chairs." β
Leaving the Hall of Justice, Eric went to Stark Tower to meet Tony.
When the entire city is swept beyond recognition by aliens, Tony certainly can't expect his building to be spared, because it's so conspicuous. Eric teleported to his living room on the top floor, landing on a mess of rubble tiles under his feet, and there seemed to be a valuable painting buried in the pile of rubble in the corner.
"I have to admit," Tony was stunned after doing another thorough medical examination for Eric, "it's a miracle." β
"My condition? What do you think? Eric asked, putting on his coat.
"Great, so good that I'm not sure if it's good." "Man, you have a hundred times more energy than the strongest man I've ever met, and it's no exaggeration to say that you're like a walking nuclear reactor!" β
"Well, correct," Eric said, "a runaway nuclear reactor can't blow an entire planet into the sky." β
Tony froze, stared at him for a long time, and asked, "Tell me you're kidding." β
Eric shrugged, "If you're worried about my potential threat, you might as well excuse me." And I'm not going to stay here for long. β
"You mean, you're leaving Earth?" Tony asked, "So do you have a plan for what's next?" Traveling around the universe? β
"Maybe, who knows."
After a long pause, Eric looked at him earnestly and said, "Thank you all the time, Tony. β
At this moment, the cafΓ© on the corner.
The caramel latte on the table was already completely cold, and Eric stretched out and lay lazily on the couch, his eyes squinting reflexively from the sunlight reflected off the glass of the building across the street.
"So, you're still a little liar."
Eric withdrew his gaze, and the girl's translucent figure appeared on the couch across from him. Raven crossed his hands to support her delicate chin, his frozen face expressionless, but it was extraordinarily harmonious and lovely in the soft golden warm sun, as if returning to the moment when they first met.
Of course, her current state of existence is incorporeal, and no one but Eric can see it.
"Why are you lying again?" Eric picked up the already cold caramel latte, and the liquid regained its heat before it touched his lipsβno hard thing for him to touch the elementals.
"You're convincing everyone that you've left Earth." Raven said, and began to play with the curtains that she couldn't actually touch.
Eric smiled indifferently, "It's not a lie, I do plan to leave, but I'm just going to rest for a while." You know, it's been a long time since I've had that opportunity β no crazy sub-mojo robots, no apocalyptic alien invasions, no mad scientists destroying the world. I felt like I'd been fighting for a lifetime β no, it should have been two lifetimes, if you count the cycle of life and death. β
At this, he sighed softly and said, "I'm sorry, Raven. β
"Huh?" The girl tilted her head in confusion.
"Bring me back for you." He stared at his half-empty cup and said in a low voice, "You have always trusted and supported me so much, and you have paid so much for me, I ...... I don't know how I can pay off what I owe you......"
Raven looked at his serious appearance and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"Huh? Where is it funny? β
Raven smiled and shook his head, "You're real, I still don't understand it." For me, as long as I can be with you forever and forever, I want nothing more. So don't be burdened by anything, Eric, it's my own choice, and I'm pretty satisfied. β
"Raven......" he closed his eyes slightly, as if he could feel her presence from the bottom of his heart, "...... Thank you. β
He finally drank the latte and stood up feeling relaxed. He quickly pushed the door open and walked out of the cafΓ©, the golden sunlight casting his shadow on the sidewalk for a long time, and the looming girl followed him.
"Let's go together, then." Eric smiled and said, "Go to the world that no one has been, the corners that no one has been, until the end of the world." β
