Chapter Thirty-Eight: The Rose-Red Maiden

The storm lasted a whole day and a night.

Scarlett cowered in the corner of a cave, staring at the fire of the kerosene heater in a daze.

At the time of the evacuation, she was separated from the large army. She was separated by Evan and Heisenberg.

Now Heisenberg was lying on the ground resting, and Evan sat across from her, looking at her coldly.

Scarlett's previous impression of Ivan was quite good, he was a polite gentleman, and he spoke and behaved elegantly like a prince.

He was indeed a prince, and as the son of the Count of Sain, he would inherit the title of earl after his father's death.

But now, Evan was looking at her coldly, his eyes were like a poisonous snake during hunting, cold and cruel, without a trace of warmth.

Scarlett was frightened by his eyes, hiding in the corner and shivering.

Speaking of which, Evan didn't do anything to hurt her, on the contrary, he gave her dry food to eat. But even so, whenever she made eye contact with Ivan, Scarlett always felt a chill in her heart.

Gradually, the wind outside began to quiet.

"The dead pig woke me up." Evan stood up and kicked Heisenberg awake, "It's raining down outside, get out and have a look." ”

Heisenberg was Ivan's henchman, he was bloated and looked dull, but he listened to Evan and could do anything.

He braved the wind and rain to walk out of the cave, and after a while, a voice came back from outside: "Your Royal Highness, hurry up and take a look, there is a person lying here!" ”

"Someone?" Evan followed suit.

Seeing Evan and Heisenberg with their backs to the mouth of the cave, their attention drawn to the man outside, Scarlett suddenly had a strong urge to escape.

She didn't know why she wanted to run away, but whenever she thought of Evan's cold eyes like a poisonous snake, she couldn't help but tremble all over.

Now is a great opportunity! They won't find out if they sneak out. Scarlett was ready to move, but in the end, reason prevailed over the inexplicable fear - outside was a dangerous jungle, the storm was still raging, and inside the cave there was a warm fire and a safe environment.

"Wait a minute, isn't this person Zhang Xiu?" Heisenberg said.

"I'll see...... Yes, really, that Ye Zina's lackey. Evan said.

"He, is he dead?"

"Probably so. Throw him away and don't stink. ”

Zhang Xiu! Scarlett heard the conversation between Evan and Heisenberg, but is Zhang Xiu dead?

She hurriedly got up and ran out of the mouth of the cave, and the oncoming raindrops were blown to her face by the wind, cold as a knife.

Ivan glanced at her and walked back to the cave with his neck bent. And Heisenberg was trying to drag Zhang Xiu, who was lying motionless on the ground.

"Don't, don't touch him!" Scarlett screamed, ran over and threw herself down beside Zhang Xiu.

Zhang Xiu's body was covered with mud and sand, his face was as pale as paper, and there was no trace of blood.

"He's still breathing!" Scarlett said anxiously to Heisenberg.

"His Royal Highness, he is still alive, what should I do?" Heisenberg shouted into the cave.

"Didn't you say that? Drag me away, don't bother me. Ivan's voice came from the cave.

Heisenberg shrugged his shoulders and stretched out his hand to continue dragging Zhang Xiu.

Scarlett hugged Zhang Xiu and bared her teeth at Heisenberg and whispered angrily.

The rain mixed with fallen leaves and mud ran down her cheeks, and the beautiful roses were supple and long, and they were sticking together. This once noble and beautiful aristocratic girl is now even more embarrassed than the lowly pariahs in the mines.

But her gaze is so fierce, like a female cat that blows up when she cares for her cubs.

Stared at by Scarlett with anger, a big guy like Heisenberg couldn't help but flinch, everyone knows what a tragic end it would be to provoke a female cat who guards her cubs.

The rain began to rain again, and Heisenberg turned and ran back to the cave.

Scarlett made up her mind, she grabbed Zhang Xiu's arm, put it on her shoulder, and dragged it towards the entrance of the cave step by step.

The red-haired weak girl dragged the boy forward, braving the wind and rain, stepping on the mud, and struggling forward. On several occasions she fell to the ground, her left arm and right knee were cut by the branches of the bush and sharp stones, respectively, and the bright red blood flowed to the fair-skinned calf, which matched the rose-red hair color, and had a unique beauty.

Finally, Scarlett dragged Zhang Xiu into the cave,

"You brought the fucking dead man back?" Ivan scolded, who was cooking a fire next to the kerosene heater.

Scarlett glared at him viciously, "He's not dead yet!" ”

"It's not far from dying if you're not dead. I warn you, our dry food is not for the dead, and when he dies you will be responsible for dragging the body out. Evan said.

Scarlett ignored him, and she tried to move Zhang Xiu's limp body to the side of the fire, trying to use the fire to dry his clammy clothes.

Heisenberg began to talk to Evan: "Your Highness, what should we do after that?" His Highness Faraki and Ye Zina have been gone for a day, and nothing has happened. ”

"Damn, I shouldn't have believed him in the first place." Evan scolded, "If it weren't for him, how would we be where we are now?" ”

"Shall we go to him?" Heisenberg asked.

"Looking for him? Didn't you see what happened to Lilith and Scott? If you want to die, you can go yourself. Ivan said with a sneer.

Time passed minute by minute, Scarlett has been guarding Zhang Xiu's side, Zhang Xiu's forehead is terriblely hot, but Scarlett doesn't know what to do at all, so she can only take a towel outside to pick up some cold rain to put on his head.

Zhang Xiu's face was hazy like a dream in the firelight, and Scarlett looked at him blankly, and couldn't help but reach out and gently touch his cheek.

When did you fall in love with this boy? Scarlett couldn't remember.

She first noticed Zhang Xiu on the day of their high school entrance report, right? Unlike the other socializing classmates, a silent boy sits in a window seat in a clean white shirt, a long shadow hanging on the wall in the setting sun.

How could there be such a quiet, lonely boy?

He was obviously dressed in white clothes, but his whole body seemed to be mottled with blood, he was clearly sitting in the sun, but he seemed to be in the darkest night, he was obviously just a boy, but he seemed to have experienced the vicissitudes of time.

She couldn't understand the boy, she couldn't understand his determination, she couldn't understand his persistence, she couldn't understand his sadness, she couldn't understand his ambition.

So she kept looking at him until one day, she found that her gaze could no longer be separated from him.

She fell in love with his frowning brows, with his resolute face, with his shoulders that were not broad but thick enough.

For Scarlett, it was enough to keep watching him.
