The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Mizuki University has a glorious and long history. Its predecessor was the Department of Mathematics of Mizuki University, which was founded in 1927, the Department of Computational Mathematics of the former Department of Engineering Mechanics and Mathematics, and the Department of Applied Mathematics, which was re-established in 1979. Since its establishment in 1927, Shuimu Mathematics has gone through three different stages of development: from 1927 to 1952 from the establishment to the brilliant development stage, from 1952 to 1979 from the special development stage from the adjustment of the department to the reconstruction, and from 1979 to the present vigorous development of the new stage. It can be said that the Department of Mathematics has made great contributions to the development of mathematical sciences in China and the cultivation of outstanding scientific and technological talents in China at every stage of development.

In the 25 years from the establishment of the Department of Mathematical Sciences in 1927 to the adjustment of the department in 1952, famous mathematicians who successively served as the chairmen of the Department of Mathematics include Zheng Zhifan, Xiong Qinglai, Yang Wuzhi, Jiang Zehan, Zhao Wanxiong, Duan Xuefu, etc. They not only actively introduced and adopted the world's most advanced mathematics teaching system at that time, but also advocated academic research and recruited a wide range of talents, making Mizuki mathematics from its creation to glory in just 25 years. During this period, many well-known mathematicians in China came to teach in the Department of Mathematics, including Sun Guangyuan, Zeng Yuanrong, Hu Kunsheng, Xu Baolu, Chen Shiingshen, Hua Luogeng, Zhuang Qitai, Min Sihe, Xu Lizhi, Cheng Minde, Wu Xinmou, Wan Zhexian, Feng Kang, Zhou Yulin, etc. In 1935, J. Hadamard, a French mathematician and then vice president of the World Arithmetic Society, and N. Wiener, an American mathematician and founder of modern cybernetics, were also hired as visiting professors. During this period, many mathematical talents also emerged, such as Chen Shiingshen, Hua Luogeng, Wu Daren, Zhuang Qitai, Xu Baolu, Ke Zhao, etc. It can be said that internationally renowned mathematicians such as Cherry Troing-Shen and Hua Luogeng went to the world from the Shuimu Department of Mathematics, and their brilliant achievements have had a profound impact on the development of contemporary mathematics.
