CHAPTER XV
Ren Wei tried to keep his mind clear, but while he was still driving the car, he could already feel the scenery outside the window begin to distort. In fact, his car has been swaying from side to side on the road since he drove again, but he didn't realize it.
Gradually, cars came from behind Ren Wei and quickly overtook his car, and several cars almost scraped against him, leaving a scolding all the way.
If this state continues, it will be sooner or later if something happens, but if he can leave Green Town before the accident, it will already be Ren Wei's greatest luck. And Ren Wei doesn't know that even if he doesn't have a traffic accident along the way, if his speed is not fast enough, his situation is not much better, and it depends on how far he can do it.
Unfortunately, this matter soon became no suspense, and when passing through an intersection, a panicked SUV overtook from the right, just in time for Ren Wei's car to shake to the right, and the front of the two cars collided violently. After the SUV drove Ren Wei's car, it was gone. And Ren Wei was not very conscious, and the violent impact made him unable to grasp the steering wheel at all. The out-of-control car sprints straight for the side of the road and crashes into the glass window of a clothing store.
Fortunately, the speed of the car was not fast, and Ren Wei was not seriously injured. Struggling to climb out of the police car, Ren Wei threw himself on the ground and retched a few times, and then looked up and looked around, but his eyes were black, dizzy, and he couldn't see anything clearly.
No matter how strong the survival ** is, if the body exceeds the limit, there is no way to do more. Ren Wei felt a burst of despair in his heart, but his consciousness was still in control of his body in a blur, and he crawled in the direction of leaving Green Town.
In the process, on the road where Ren Wei was, the vehicles that kept passing gradually merged into a traffic flow, and kept moving out of the town.
Many vehicles kept honking their horns when they left the town, so as to wake up the townspeople along the way, so that those residents in the area who could not be notified by government officials, although they did not understand what was happening, at least knew that danger was coming, and they could escape as soon as possible and have more chances of survival.
Viewed from the air, the entire town of Greene begins to be lit up from west to east.
"Daddy! Father! There's an uncle there, and he's still moving. A milky voice rang out.
"Huh? Is it someone from the west? Looks like a car accident? Driving a police car and wearing body armor. Is it the police? Daisy, you take the child and get into the car first, and I'll help this person over. A man said.
Then, Ren Wei felt someone pull him up from the ground and lead him forward half-supported and half-dragged. After a while, Ren Wei felt that he was lying on a very comfortable and soft area, and the protective mechanism of his body caused him to fall into a deep sleep in an instant.
Gas gate station.
The iron door, which had been closed, was slammed open by the Humvee in a forceful manner, and it twisted to the side. The Humvee stopped in front of the gate building, and the doorman on duty in the building had been scared away, and Avril was about to enter the building, but was pulled by Horton.
Avril looked back at Horton in surprise and asked, "Horton, what are you doing?" β
"I'll just go alone." Holden said in a deep voice.
"What?" Avril had a puzzled expression on her face, but she instantly turned into anger and said sharply, "Horton, what nonsense are you talking about!" β
"Listen to me." Horton took a deep breath. "There are only three of us left in the 'Watchmen', we can't all fold here, I'm just a reckless man, and if the captain and you are alive, there will be more things than I can do, and the 'Watchmen' can still be rebuilt. I'll stay and set up the detonator, and you guys leave at this time. With your driving skills, you can probably drive far enough in half an hour, and then I will detonate the gate station, and if the explosion starts to spread from the gate station, there should be some time for you to escape from Green Town. β
"No way, let's go together, I will never agree to let you do this." Avril said firmly.
"In the team, you and I are at most equals, and even if you don't agree, you don't have the right to order me." After Horton finished speaking, he carried his bag full of ammunition and walked into the building without looking back.
Avril noticed that Charles in the car had not spoken since the beginning of their argument, and she was surprised to find that Charles was reclining in the back seat, his eyes closed, and his chest rising and falling steadily.
"Horton, you stop!" Avril saw that Charles was okay for the time being, so she didn't have time to think about it, and hurriedly chased after Houghton.
"On the way to the station, the captain couldn't hold on and asked for a painkiller, but I gave him a tranquilizer. His physical condition doesn't allow him to fight anymore, and now that he has no ability to protect himself, you have to take on the responsibility of protecting the captain. Houghton turned around and slammed the door in front of the station and explained to Avril.
"Horton! You bastard! You've planned it for a long time, haven't you? Avril knocked the door and shouted hoarsely, tears dripping down her cheeks.
"Goodbye!" Horton said his final goodbyes.
Avril looked at Horton's back, reached out to wipe the tears from her face, and said with a resolute expression: "If you want to be a lone hero, you won't succeed." With that, he turned around and ran back to the car, checked Charles' seat belt, and then started the car and went straight to the front door of the gate station building.
With a "bang", the front door of the building shattered.
Horton heard a loud noise behind him, Huo Ran turned around, and when he saw the situation in front of him, his color changed. Emotionally yelled, "Avril! Are you crazy? β
Avril shot back in the same loud voice, "You're crazy! You coward! The killers of the brothers and sisters have not been found! The revenge has not yet been avenged! Do you want to die for liberation? Tell you! Our lives do not belong to us now, we are living with the faith of all the dead 'watchmen', and no one can easily give up the hope of living! β
"You ......"
"Shut up! You don't have to explain anything! I've made up my mind! If the captain was sober now, he would definitely agree with me, and you know that at all, otherwise he wouldn't have used that kind of tactic before. Avril said firmly.
"Phewβ" Horton let out a sigh of relief, knowing that Avril's decision was irreversible. "Let's go, let's set up the detonator."
Just as the two of them were preparing to go to the gas supply hub pipeline, Avril accidentally saw the layout of the entire gate station, with a place on it that reads "PLC central control room".
Avril's eyes lit up and she called out to Horton.
"Wait! Horton, I have a better way. β
"What's the solution?" Houghton asked.
"I didn't expect the gate station in Greentown to use a programmable logic controller." Avril pointed to the word "plc" and said to Horton. "This allows us to modify the pressure threshold of the pipeline so that it constantly pressurizes the pipeline, and when the pipeline can't withstand the pressure, the pipeline will burst, and after the gas overflows, it will explode when it encounters an open flame. We don't need to spend any more time setting up the detonator. β
"Will you use this system?" Horton asked again.
"If you know a little about it, you should be able to do it. In this way, we split up. If this attempt fails, I'll come down and join you right away, and we'll plant the detonator together. Avril suggested.
"Okay." Horton didn't say much, and immediately took action.
Avril checked the location of the central control room again, and after confirming that her memory was correct, she quickly went to the target location.
Coming to the PLC central control room on the second floor, Avril broke the door lock with two shots, kicked open the door of the central control room, and then walked to the console and began to try to operate the control system.
As the minutes ticked by, Avril Lavigne's forehead began to drip with sweat.
After more than a dozen attempts, Avril finally figured out how to set it up, and began to change the pressure threshold one pipeline at a time, so that the pipes were pressurized......
"Houghton!" Avril ran in the direction of the air hub as she shouted Horton's name.
"I'm here." Horton's tall figure appeared in Avril's line of sight. "How's it going over there?"
"Let's go!" Avril's expression was very eager.
When Horton saw this, he didn't bother to ask why, and strode towards the Humvee.
The two got into the car, and Avril expertly reversed the car out of the gate building, and then flicked the front of the car, and the Hummer sped out of the gate station.
That's when Horton asked, "What's going on?" β
"I've changed the thresholds, but I can't control the rate at which the gas is pressurized, it's getting faster and faster, and now I don't know when it's going to burst the line. The thing that worries me the most is that because I don't have time to look at the area where the pipeline is distributed, I am afraid that the first pipeline I will modify is the pipeline located in the east. In that case, our retreat would be the first place where we could explode, which is why I'm so nervous. Avril explained as she drove.
"Originally, your discovery has improved our chances of survival after blowing up the gate station a lot, not to mention that your last worry is still fifty percent likely not to happen, even if we start all over again, it will not be possible to do better than now, this is already worth the gamble." Horton said calmly.
"Hopefully we can win the bet, and now it's up to us to see which of the remaining points can't withstand it first, and it will form a wall of fire. Hopefully, all that we do is worth it and that we can save more people. Avril's voice trembled a little as she said the last sentence.
Although she knew that sacrifice was inevitable, doing so would undoubtedly cause many deaths or indirect deaths due to the explosion, and these people could be regarded as dying because of her. No matter how legitimate she is, she has no right to decide the life and death of others.
The same is life, which is more important, is it really measured by quantity? For the first time, Avril felt lost in what she had done.
